  1. Yeah, I was also thinking about getting the WRT54GL too. Seems like a good idea, and I could use a decent router. I'll look into it some more and see what I can come up with.
  2. You're forgetting something: You can only disable simple file sharing in XP Pro, not home. This is one of the "Advantages" of Pro. Google it if you don't believe me.
  3. Hi, I've got a problem. I'm staying in a residence at a University and I've got my own internet connection because the university run wireless network blows as******. To help pay for this I've got 2 other people in on the connection with me, one who is my roommate, the other is right below me. Herein lies the problem; my friend right below me constantly has torrents downloading and whenever I'm trying to play Xbox Live (Or any other online game for that matter.) I'm constantly lagging out. So, what I want to do is run the connection through my computer (I already have 2 NIC's.) so that I can control who gets priority when it comes to bandwidth. I don't have a problem with leaving my computer on all the time so that's not an issue for me. Can anyone recommend a good program to do this and maybe give me a bit of help setting it up? Basically I need a program that can be a DHCP server and run Qos.
  4. You guys are too paranoid. This actually works, I've seen it before. Here's a screen if you don't believe me.
  5. Hi, I've recently moved into residence at Memorial University and I'm having trouble connecting to their network. I've followed their instructions(can be found here .) for setting up everything on my end and everything goes good until the part where I have to enter my credentials for connecting. I don't have the opportunity to do this. On step 13 of the instructions it states "Click OK and you will see an icon at the bottom right of your computer (two computers joined). Double click this icon and you will be prompted for your password." but when I do this it simply opens the window where you view and choose a wireless network to connect to. I've tried just connecting with no success; windows just tries to connect for a minute and then gives up. Now, I'm wondering if there's a registry entry I can change to put in my username and password or something. The network card I'm using is the D-Link WDA-2320 (The one with the Rangebooster, I think it's got a 15dBi output instead of 12 or 13.) Please, help me out here, I'd really like to get on the internet without sharing the connection from my girlfriend's laptop. Please note: I do consider my self pretty computer savvy, so I'm confident I've followed the instructions perfectly up until this point.
  6. This is completely ridiculous. I upgrade my computer about once every 10-12 months, and i have no intention of paying 200 or 300 dollars every two years for a piece of software I already have in my possesion. The fact that MS would do this to their customers blows me away, and hopefully a few lawsuits will fix this up.
  7. I've just installed vista last night on my machine, and today when i finally took the dvd out, i noticed that my computer won't boot without the dvd in the drive. Without it, I simply get a DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER." I'm thinking that maybe the boot sector or mbr needs to be repaird, but i'm not familar with how to do this in vista. Thanks a lot.
  8. Do you think loading the drivers off a cd would be easier?
  9. Ok, I just tried disconnecting the RAID array, and i didn't get the error, but it stalled when i tried to load the drivers off my flash drive.
  10. I don't know, but I'll give that a try tonight when i get home. Thanks again for your help, I really appreciate it.
  11. The setup doesn't make it as far as that screen. Right after i click "Install" all I can see is the background and then the error comes up, proventing me from going any further.
  12. I'm trying to install it on my RAID 0 array. I get the error right after I click "Install Now" on the first or second screen. Thanks.
  13. When I try to install Vista Beta, the setup comes up with an error which says something similar to: "Windows setup could not obtain information abuot the drives in your computer." I'd really like to get this working, and for some reason, it doens't even give me the option of installing the drivers for my Raid array. My system specs are as follows: A64 3000+ DFI LanParty NF4 Ultra-D 1GB Kingston HyperX PC3500 SoundBlaster Live! 24-bit nVidia GeForce 6600GT Enermax Liberty 500w PSU 2 SATA Western Digital 80GB Dricves in RAID 0 1 SATA SeaGate 80GB LG DVD/RW Drive LG CD/RW Drive No Floppy I'd really apreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction to get this working. Thanks.
  14. I'm having the same problem with my onboard Nvidia LAN controller on my DFi NF-II Ultra AL. if anyone finds any working drivers for this lan chipset, please post them. I've tried both the xp and the 2000 drivers so far.
