clidx Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 Well you know some apps like nero automatically eject the disc tray when they finish burning or theres no disc in the drive etc, is there any way to disable this for all apps? it's just that my case has a cover that comes in the way when an app like nero ejects the disc tray...thanks.
Jeremy Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 In the future, please take 2 minutes to look at the program's options/preferences.Nero > File > Options > Expert Features > "Do not eject the disk after the burn is complete"I don't think there is a global setting for it in Windows XP. I Googled it.
clidx Posted September 22, 2007 Author Posted September 22, 2007 (edited) Oh sorry about that. i was looking for a global setting and i just used nero as an example.any other suggestions? Edited September 22, 2007 by clidx
Ponch Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 i just used nero as an example.Yes but... do you have other examples ? All burning applications I've ever used have that option quite on the front. Given the fact most people use one ore two burning applications, this should be solved rapidly. Any other type of application that opens the tray ? I can't think of any.
GrofLuigi Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 There is a good reason for this behavior. All burning applications are merely an interface to your CD/DVD burner as it does all the job, and they only send commands. In a way, you can think of it a small independent computer (the firmware). In the old days of CD burners, the ONLY way to reset that 'computer' was to eject the tray. Otherwise, many bad things could happen, the least of them being the burner remaining unaware that the content of the media has changed. No Windows 'auto insert notification' thing could solve this. Some burners can do this detection on their own, but there never were any public specs or standards (in a sense of a guideline how to implement it in a unified manner), so one can never be sure how his drive behaves. I *think* DVD burners inherited this 'problem' , otherwise they would have advertised it heavily, and I've not seen any of that.Anyway, even if the problem is solved by now, I think one can safely trade off this minor annoyance with the feeling he has done all that he can (even if it's just one small additional step) to avoid coasters. And there are many small (or big) apps that open/close tray. Even Windows has 'Eject' on right click.GL
clidx Posted September 23, 2007 Author Posted September 23, 2007 I know many apps have that option in their config sections but if i get another app and it auto ejects the cd on default, and i've forgotten to generally configure the app (including disable cd auto-ejecting) then the cover on my case to the drive bays will come in the way to the opening drive. so i just wondered if there was a way to disable it completely for all apps rather than going into each apps options. (i know i don't have many apps that open the tray themselves but on the rare occasion that i get a new one and it DOES open it by itself, it is an annoyance)Thanks for the info anyway. i'll just have to try and remember to go into the options of every cd app i use.
