pc2-6400 ram running at pc2-5300

i have a p5b deluxe and kingston 2gb ram. it's pc2-6400 but cpu-z lists it as pc2-5300.

i've tried upping the voltage to the ram to 2V and manually selecting DDR2-800 in the bios but no change :(

any suggestions?

thanks.

EDIT it seems that the clock speed reads 400mhz but cpu-z claims that the max bandwidth is 333mhz... so i guess it IS running at DDR2-800mhz but it's listed as DDR2-667 RAM. any way to change this?

Is the RAM meant to be running in Dual Channel mode for 800mhz to be reached?

Is the memory standard of the motherboard DDR2 800? more specifically, does it support DDR2 800?

yes the motherboard supports DDR2-800, it has a ram compatibility list in the manual and it has some ddr2-800 ram listed.

umm what is dual channel mode? i only have one stick of ram if that has anything to do with it. and i don't know if dual channel mode is needed to reach ddr2-800.

if its only one stick of RAM, than dual channel doesn't matter.

have you tried other slots on the motherboard?

the RAM might not be labeled properly..but i dunno...not sure what to say.

The SPD tab will never change. That is the information that is programmed into the SPD chip on the memory module.

yep, and they can also be wrong, which can sucks. even tho it says one thing it may be another. my mushkin pc4000's SPD said that it was something slower also, but it really was not.

well my memory tab is saying the advertised speed. but the spd tab (see screen) is saying pc2-5300

so which one is more reliable? there's also a label on the ram that says pc2-6400 and ddr2-800

or are there any RAM benchmarks that i could use to see whether my ram is running at 800mhz?

EDIT answered my own question, since the frequency in the memory tab changes a fair bit, cpu-z's probably checking in real time what speed the ram is running it, so it is 400mhz and the spd is showing the wrong speed.

thanks
