  1. That one is meant for the MS Intellimouse, so I don't know if it will run with my MX1000. Also, it only supports only five buttons - subtracting left and right buttons which you better don't redefine, and the wheel button which is pretty much unusable, that only leaves two. Finally, it's for XP64 (where Setpoint works fine) and untested on Vista x64 final, much less SP1. Unsigned driver would also mean pressing F8 at every boot. Thus, it's not of much use for me. Looks like I really have to wait until Logitech gets their act together.

    My Findings

    Simply remove WinSxs folder
  3. Quite a bit, actually. Before it was over 3gb, after only 0.5gb - but I wonder why this rest doesn't get removed as well.
  4. I tried out something new - I unpacked the setpoint installer and the ran setup from the "1-setpoint" subdir. The setup seemed to run better, and in device manager I even had a Logitech entry for the first time However, the tab is still mia, even after a reboot I've then tried setting up the user.xml properly and rebooted. Turns out it was only a partial success - the mouse pointer speed works, but the button settings don't work Still no tab as well. Well, at least the mouse is usable now.
  5. 2x2GB Corsair Xms Dhx PC2-6400 @ 4-4-4-12 B)
  6. XP64, hands down B) Vista is overly bloated, sluggish at times, and lacks compatibility with older apps and devices. Only with Win2008, it's starting to get better (although still some issues remain).
  7. I vote for ME in the absence of Vista (aka ME 2.0 ) Only Win2008 is slowly starting to become usable (still with some issues though).
  8. Ok, I'll give this one last try and see if I can get it to work.
  9. Same here, I just don't like stuff to be as extremely bloated as it is. If the slimmed-down stuff runs faster, that's a nice plus on top of it.
  10. I've been trying out the Component cache (WinSxs) removal, but it is not working properly. After install, I still have a WinSxs folder which is half a gigabyte, containing roughly 18k files Now while this is much smaller than the size of the folder without using the removal, it makes me wonder why there is that much left?

    My Findings

I'd say that is a moot point as only .net 2.0 is installed by default. You can add .net 3.0 by "Add Features", but that easily breaks when removing components. (You can still d/l and install the .net 3.0/3.5 runtime from MS, even without "Add Features").
  12. From reading all the threads dealing with it on the Logitech forum, the missing tab seems to be not uncommon at all, and appearing on all versions from Windows XP 32-bit to Windows 2008 64-bit. I've now tried out all the possible solutions they mentioned (all with uninstall/reboot/reinstall inbetween), like install with device manager from the cddrv dir, changing around the wdf stuff (including renaming the wdf01000.sys file) and whatnot, back and forth and back again. However, nothing of that worked, the tab stays hidden no matter what I do I guess I'll have to wait until a proper driver for Win2008 x64 comes out, no go otherwise. As effective working isn't possible with such a slug pace pointer, I'd say that ends my trying out of Windows 2008 for now. It's a shame that not even such elementary drivers as the mouse driver work properly... while on the whole it's a clear improvement over Vista, I guess it will still be some time until Windows 2008 is ready for prime time.
  13. I've done a very stripped down Win2008 as well now, and Server Manager still works fine B) Of those listed by you, I kept only .net (because I need it) and Html engine. I doubt removing .net causes this, so it's probably the lacking Html engine. However, you can still compare yours to my config and see if there's any more differences: [Compatibility] Halo 2 KMPlayer [CustomHide] [Components] ;# Accessories # Accessibility Paint Speech Support ;# Drivers # Display adapters-Ati Display adapters-Intel Display adapters-nVidia Diva Server Ethernet network adapters Modems Printers-Apollo Printers-Brother Printers-Canon Printers-Citizen Printers-Dell Printers-Diconix Printers-Epson Printers-Fuji Xerox Printers-Fujitsu Printers-Gestetner Printers-HP Printers-IBM Printers-Infotec Printers-Konica Printers-Konica Minolta Printers-Kyocera Mita Printers-Lanier Printers-Lexmark Printers-Minolta Printers-Minolta-QMS Printers-NEC Printers-NRG Printers-Oce Printers-Oki Printers-Okidata Printers-Olivetti Printers-Panasonic Printers-QMS Printers-Ricoh Printers-Samsung Printers-Savin Printers-Seikosha Printers-Sharp Printers-Sony Printers-Star Printers-Tally Printers-Tektronix Printers-Wipro ePeripherals Printers-Xerox QLogic Fibre Channel Adapter Sound controllers TV Tuners-ADS Technologies TV Tuners-ASUSTeK Computer Inc. 14. Sounds good B) How do you remove the dependencies?
  15. Ok, I'll have a look. I can already say that one of the solutions given (Zone Alarm interfering) can't apply to me since it's on a freshly installed Windows 2008 w/ no additional apps. It can't be the Usb port either since it works fine on my XP64. I'll have to check back w/ my Win2008 installation if there are any files missing or somesuch...
  16. Why not get rid of it altogether?
  17. Can't use them If they're Windows 2000 drivers, they're 32 bit only. So I can only hope that Logitech gets their act together and releases working Win2008 x64 drivers. It's not so much the button config I'm missing, but much more the pointer speed settings - using 1920x1200 with a pointer that moves at a slug's pace is a real pain
  18. Yes, that's what I also wondered... why have two buttons which do the same thing?
  19. Yes, looks like it. The info in vLite should be updated saying that removing mcs only affects onboard sound.
  20. Tried Setpoint 4.60 today (just released), still the same problem
  21. Uninstalled the old driver - reboot - installed 4.60 - reboot. Still the same sh!t Also, at the beginning of the installation, there's a dialog that the driver was not tested on that OS and that they recommend downloading a driver that fits to the OS. Haha, good joke If they would offer a driver for Windows 2008 x64 specifically, I'd tried it already
  22. Did a new Win2008 install with it removed (and a few other things as well). No problems so far - if anything, it feels snappier B) Forgot to mention, I also have an X-Fi Extreme Music Pci-E.
  23. While I don't think this is related to Windows 2008 only, but rather to Vista SP1 in general, I still thought I'd put a notice here. In the newest Logitech Setpoint mouse driver (4.40 from January), you don't have a "My Mouse" settings page, so you can't do any settings: http://www.msfn.org/board/Logitech-Setpoin...er-t117645.html
  24. I've downloaded the newest Logitech Setpoint mouse driver (4.40 from January), Vista x64, for my MX1000 to install on Windows 2008 x64. The install seemed to work fine, without problems. However, when I open the Setpoint Settings dialog, there's just the "Tools" tab which only has infos about the installed version, but there's no "My mouse" page where you can set up the mouse buttons, pointer speed etc. As such, I can't make any settings, so it's no bit better than without the driver installed I've already tried rebooting, but still no settings tab. See below for screenshot. Any ideas what's up there? I'd guess it's because the driver isn't compatible with Vista SP1, since the driver came out before it.
