1333 FSB. Which RAM to use?

Which ram does an E6850 need? I'd like to match it up best I can. No bottleneck.

Will DDR2-1066 be acceptable? What If I overclock it to DDR2-1333 Speeds? Any ram kits that can do that stable?

I don't consider that expensive for high-speed RAM. :)

I have that exact Corsair kit in my machine...and I paid well over double that (~$400) less than a year ago.

For real, you think you will notice any diference between 800 and 1066, or 1066 and 1333? :P Not even between 800 and 1333 ;).

By the way, I OC ADATA (VDATA) DDR2 800 to 1000MHz here, voltage on 1.95volt :).

My bad. I thought the FSB was a 1:1 ratio on the Core 2 Duos.

Looks like the Core2s have a quad pumped FSB and the Ram has a dual pumped FSB.

So 1333/2 = 667. So DDR2-667 Ram would work just fine.

So a 333FSB (x4 since its quad pumped) works with DDR2-667 RAM.

Right?

So what's the need for this new high performance DDR3 ram then? What would DDR3-1333 be good for? Besides being more expensive?

It could be that you get better timings with the 800MHz versions when they are working on 667MHz. Also you can play a bit more with Overclocking or so if you like. Price is the same by the way... And half of the 1066MHz ones...

DDR3 1333MHz will give you DDR2 1066MHz performance in troughput, altrough the timings are better at that speed with DDR2.

DDR3 800/1066MHz is useless in my eyes and even to get 1333 you need some 1.85volts to let it work...

Let´s see what happens in 2008 ;)...

Ok... so was I right in my post above?

DDR2 is dual pumped? With a quad pumped FSB?

Or does a Core2 use DDR2-1066 to work at max effectiveness?

Yes, 1066 would be the best, one-on-one with the FSB of 1066 (4(Quad)+(pumped for marketing :P)*266MHz(Bus)), but not all chipsets and motherboards handle it well.

But price/performance is best with 800MHz DDR2...

Hmmm. DDR2-800.

If its got great timings then huraaah!

Thanks for the advice. Care to recommend a good brand while you're at it? I'm not planning on setting any overclocking records so I don't need really expensive ram. I'm looking for something high(er) end that has a fantastic bang-for-buck.

Looking to load a system with anywhere from 4-6gigs of ram. 4 seems like a good balance. Need it for cad and photoshop and such. Want to get a good brand & model that I can buy 4 gigs of without paying an arm and a leg.

Just get your self cheap RAM, and cheap is not bad at all.

On more expensive RAM you only pay for the heatspreader and timings (5-5-5-18 vs 4-4-4-12 for example).

I personaly like ADATA (VDATA), cheap and almost no RMA ;).

EDIT: Looking on NCIX.com, but they don´t have any thing interesting :(.

EDIT2: Just found OCZ Platinum XTC REV.2 PC2-6400 2GB 2X1GB DDR2-800 CL4-4-4-15 240PIN DIMM Dual Channel Memory Kit.

Why this one? Good RAM, good timings and works on 1.9-2.0volt (1.8-1.85volt is standard). And it seems that you don´t pay so much for the heatspreaders, just don´t like the mail in rebate, and don´t know if it aplies to 2 sets of these...

With an E6750 can I still use my 800mhz Corsair RAM?

Right now I have the E6600 but I want to go back and return it and buy myself the E6750 for the 1333FSB it has.

It will still give me a performance boost with the E6750 instead of E6600 and the same Corsair 800mhz RAM correct?
