How do you get 256colour tray icons

When I was running 2000 sp4, I modified explorer.exe:

explorer.exe @ 88EE from 01 to 19, to show 256 color icons in your tray

modifype explorer.exe -c

makecab explorer.exe

and put in the FIX directory

Probably easier ways to do this now though.

Use Oleg2's method because it will modifype it automatically and add it to your setup files. In virgin form, w2k does not have msconfig, so if you put it into fix, it won't copy over.

@Tomcat76

Frankly speaking I don't know :blushing: I found this file a lo-o-ong time ago. There was the same question and somebody recommended this version. Maybe that time it was impossible to use XP version on W2k?

That file version is 5.1.2499.0.

The file version from XP SP2 is 5.1.2600.2180.

Your network settings are initialized. You may set DHCP Client, Telephony, Wireless Zero Configuration and maybe some other network services to manual start. That may speed up loading. But you will have to start the services before you connect to Internet ;)
