It's language indipendent, right? In 98 SE SP is there this update? no, Max_04. UPDATE.SYS is NOT language independent. If you look at the Properties of update.sys on the Version tab and click on Language, it will tell you if it is for a certain Language. if it says "Language Neutral" then it is language independent. in this case, update.sys is NOT language independent. the update.sys patches provided at MDGx's web site are in English. if you can make Italian versions of the updated update.sys files for Win98se/ME, please do so. Total commander says that UPDATE.SYS of MDGX and Petr Mirrors are same file. Therefore your consideration is false.

Please give me .sed file, I've some problems... Before java installation, this is a message error: incorrect inf file syntax in section IExploreLDID. I'm nearly sure that is my .sed file incorrect...

Plainly wrong! The information is still there, even under WinME (whether it is used for anything is a different matter). Please take a closer look at USER.EXE *before* you write such nonsense!Hotfixes such as KB291362 actullay personalize USER.EXE and fill those fields when they install the new version of USER.EXE - I verified that a long, long time ago when KB260067 was released. I would not expect to see *major* stability improvements (from 'or cx,ax' --> 'or ax,ax'), for three reasons: (1) A previous call to KERNEL.LOCALALLOC may have failed already, was handled correctly, and the buggy code is no longer executed. (2) I picked this bug as an *example* (please see that post!) b/c it is easy to understand and is one of the very, very few I still remember where to find. There are other, much less obvious bugs in USER.EXE, where things can go wrong when KERNEL.LOCALALLOC (or KERNEL.LOCALREALLOC) fails (same for GDI.EXE!). (3) The hang may not be a bug at all, but "perfectly" normal b/c WM processing stops. If Win9x were designed to work when Resources are low, that is, below 10%, one would not get the well-known warning "Ninety percent or more of your system resources are in use. To free up system resources, quit any programs that you are not using. If you do not, your computer may stop responding." from M$'s ResourceMeter!!! In my experience, that type of bug is more likely to cause heap corruption (with a subsequent GPF or BSOD) than a system freeze. As a matter of fact, sometimes I am *truly* amazed how well, really well actually, Win98SE works despite all those bugs (and there are zillions of them)!!! One example is a totally different bug in USER.EXE and there is no fix for it: The splash screen of some programs such as Office XP programs causes a small, but permanent Resource leak in USER.EXE. It also causes a larger Resource leak in GDI.EXE, but that one is concealed very, very cunningly! AFAIK, Win9x debug versions were available for download from M$ - I do not know if they still are. I am also not sure if they are very useful now as they lack *all* hotfixes. I hope this helps. Best wishes. P.S.: I think I now know what is causing the problems with Restorator ('Max_04'). This has to do with your sound card drivers, which may need [depending on the particular sound card you have] to be reinstalled after you installed 98SE2ME.This is because 98SE2ME options 1, 2 + 8 replace [among other files] the *.SYS files in %windir%\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS with newer WinME drivers [WDM style]. I'm afraid that there is no fix for this problem. ;-( HTH Sorry, my contact hasn't solved this problem (reinstalling old&new drivers for win98se of Avance AC'97, sound card is integrated in mobo). The system is K6 II 450@500 on motherboard MS-5187, 512 MB ram and HDD 60 GB. If you are any idea... or you can create one option to exclude replacing of *.SYS files in %windir%\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS with newer WinME drivers. Ah, I've tried with my machine Pentium II 400, win98se + 98se2me (sound card: soundblaster live value), the problem is identical, drivers reinstallation is useless.

@MDGx: I've a problem with 98se2me... after installation of option 1, control volume in sounds and multimedia is disabled. Then, I don't succeed to remember reproduction and recorder devices, in tab voice, clicking on Apply.
