  1. When it calls makeiso you can actually see the command window open and the options it passes. You can also change the options it passes. I'm not sure why the iso files are not being created properly.
  2. I've used this a few times successfully, but for whatever reason, this is not working for me to make a .cab file for the latest 2.0.3 RC5 for OpenOffice.org It hangs at the 7-zip compression portion. I have the latest 7-zip installed, and it works fine. It works fine for making other addons. I left it sitting them for 8 hours to make sure it wasn't just slow, but it never progressed at all.
  3. Yep, gotta love keeping exploitable code around! Other than WGA, I can't see any good reason for not installing the critical updates.
  4. Freeware is freeware. Someone spent their time to make a product and share it with you. I'm not saying an effort shouldn't be made to fix it. However, don't feel like the world is entitled to take care of you for free. The boot.bin is quite visible which isn't right, however the discs are booting just fine for me, and plenty of people. And I'm not sure the bug lies with nLite, but rather whatever software they use to make the iso file. So I'm not sure the nLite team can fix said bug.
  5. If you do the silent install, I don't think it stops and pops up the message. And you don't need to worry about the CD overriding the Transformation Pack if SFC is disabled. Either way, I still encourage people to wait for a proper slipstream install.
  6. Why would you put the CD in the drive in the first place. But installing the pack you are intentionally trying to overwrite system files. No doubt the installer is smart enough to stop you and make you take out the CD, because if it were there, and Windows File Protection were active, then it would overwrite the Visual Transformation Pack and make the installer moot. However, when making an nLite CD, the default option is to disable Windows File Protection. I'm not sure how much of an issue any of this is. Either way, I'm holding out for a version of the pack (hopefully the next one) that can be properly slipstreamed.
  7. There is no need to swap CDs. However, if Windows File Protection is still active, then during the install process Windows will scream that you overwrote protected files and prompt you to put in the Install CD to restore Windows system files.
  8. NTFS has much better performance than FAT and FAT32. And Linux can in fact write to NTFS. The patch is in the mainline kernel, you just have to enable it. It is quite stable. I'd still prefer something like EXT3 or Reiser4, but Windows is not about to run on those anytime soon.
  9. I'd love to see how you guys pull some of this off. I got down to 160 megs once, but I broke the installer somehow.
  10. I prefer the keyboard over the mouse because it is faster for many tasks. There are tasks that are in fact aided by a mouse. If you want a more secure system, run Linux and run Steam under Wine/Cedega. You can get a fairly minimalist Linux system much easier.
  11. There is always the possibility of just having bad burns. It is hard to say without a fact that the iso is bad, especially if it eventually burned and booted correctly. The iso doesn't magically change.
  12. When you integrate drivers should/could you remove the old drivers with nLite first? nLite suggests you can if you are adding newer drivers, however my first CD I made BSOD'ed in the first few minutes of the install, so I wonder if removing many of the old drivers before adding the driver packs screwed me.
  13. I'd love to see a x64 version! I hope someone manages to pull this off!
  14. Then perhaps we should wait for the next release.
  15. Even with the silent mode, Windows File Protection comes up. And it requires a reboot. I'm curious if anyone has actually tested this slipstreamed onto a CD? The author (WindowsX) said the next version will likely support slip streaming, which suggests the current version does not. Either way, calling people stupid when someone makes a legitimate request isn't productive. I'm going to attempt sometime in the next 24 hours to make a new CD with this slipstreamed. If it works, I'll release a CAB addon.
  16. How do you make these custom Firefox installers that include Flash, extensions, etc? I would like to make a cab I can throw in nLite that will install Bon Echo alpha 3 (or maybe even this build of Alpha 3) with all my favorite extensions, etc.
  17. Thanks!
  18. Yep, I posted in the wrong thread. Sorry. And I also found the problem. When using NLite Add-On Maker, if will 7-zip everything in your install directory, so I had a few installers I was trying to make .cabs out of seperately, but it zipped all of them together.
  19. Can someone make an nLite version?
  20. I have 7-zip installed, and I select 7-zip compression, but it doesn't appear to compress anything. I tried creating a a plugin for the Flash 9 beta. The installer is 1 meg. The finished the cab with "Ultra" compression is 33 megs. Something is wrong.
