Do you have any links to more info on this? I don't use System Restore and have never done a repair installation, so I'm wondering if it would be a concern or not. Oh yes, also forgot the important part, it blocks upgrades. This may mean some Windows Updates, but definately renders the inability to install a Service Pack. Sounds very similar to this forum, except for the railroad part. I hear railroads are still pretty big in Europe. They are a dying breed over here.

It wouldn't make sense if they did. It is explicitly noted that the PE is not to be used as an operating system. Let's also consider the fact that WinPE's typical implementation is to use a RAMDISK as the hard drive (like a thin client) which means if you reboot, everything saved into that scratch space is erased. Win PE would be a perfect use product for a thin client, which was likely why they limit it so it cannot be used for that purpose.

A little warning. Microsoft does not support using a common Profile partition like this. Certain functions of either OS will not work properly or at all, or may damage the other installation. Some examples would be Restore Points, Repairs, etc.

Just on Driverpacks. http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewforum.php?id=38 FYI driverpacks is just the files themselves. It doesn't have an installer but I think there are programs out there that work with the DriverPacks to install.

I do not know if it is covered in the WAIK documentation, but it is possible to either do unattended installed via a Distribution Share, or you can unattend Vista and 7 via WDS, or use WinPE via PXE and deploy existing images.

It sounds like you didn't change your screen resolution when you hooked up the new display. Check the specs on it on the website, or a manual and look for the Native Resolution. That is the resolution you should have your screen set to. Or check your display settings and find ones like 1280x1024 or 1600x1200 I think are ones people like to use. The widescreen monitor I have here runs native at 1440x900.

I'm up to a new project at home. I have everything all set up to use the TV Out function on my video card. This was I can do things like watch hockey games on my TV instead of on my computer. Also cheaper that getting TV service, but I'm having some problems. First up, here is my current setup: ATI Radeon X1650 Pro using S-Video out. The card came with an S-Video to Composite (Yellow) adapter. This goes to a Composite cable to a switch box. The switch box goes to the VCR which then connects to the TV using a high-grade (Cable TV) coax. The reason why my VCR is the main interface for the TV is because my TV only has 1 coax in as far as ports. The VCR handles the audio out to my speaker system for the Over-Aid TV box and PS2. The TV is a CRT analog type, made by RCA. I have enabled second Monitor in Windows (oh Its XP Pro x86) and I set to extend monitor to the TV. I get a picture on the TV (I see my wallpaper) but the image flips constantly. I do not have the CCC installed (because its a resource hog) but I just downloaded it and will see if that helps. This is the first time I'm using dual display to a TV so I have no experience in it. Here are some questions: 1. How can I determine what resolution and color depth I am using? Is there some calculation I can use using the TV's screen size? 2. What is causing the flipping video? Is it maybe caused by the VCR? If there is anything else I should know, please post it here. Or if I need to provide more info, feel free to ask. Update: The picture seemed to just fix itself after getting the CCC installed. Also a lot of the problems I was having on the TV has to do with the quality of the cabling I am using. Some of it is really old. So I'm going to stop at a Radio Shack and get a better cable. That is if it isn't ridiculously expensive. Otherwise I'll have to wait to buy one online.

What PE version do you have, and did you add the packages you need? Can you see the drives on the right side? You need the following packages: - HTA - Scripting - WMI - XML

My OS is not listed! I have 2 notebooks running Windows NT Workstation 3.51! They are 486 Compaq Elites.

I have resolved this issue on my own. I cannot go through the steps of resolution, but it turned out the partition type was incorrect. It may be possible that other people may get this error for other reasons, so I'll leave the topic open. Thanks for your input!

Why not inject the driver into your WIM? That way you wouldn't have to worry about Drvload

As of PE v2.0, it seems to be pretty fast in the PnP of UFDs.

The computer, after the deployment from WinPE, should be booting as if Syprep was set as /generalize /audit /reboot. So I guess that answers your question. I have not tried to do a hand-load on that particular computer. I can say that the computer failed the memtest at pass 5. Tomorrow I'll get the memory replaced and we'll see what happens then. You know, I really hate this DG45FC board. I've had 3 SRs with Microsoft about it and currently 2 quads with Intel too. Its horrible! I can't wait for it to go EOL.
