  1. Specific error messages would help. Also see if anything useful in Event Viewer.
  2. As far as #2, this is going to be caused by your BIOS settings, the capabilities of your computer, or you removed something you needed with nLite. More infos: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/810903 The other problems you are having may also be from things you removed with nLite.
  3. First, a little forum rule to note. Do not bump a topic that is less than 24 hours old, instead edit your previous post. Second, specs on the PC would be great.
  4. We're also going to need to know what version of Windows 7 you have.
  5. Here's the situation. A co-worker of mine is taking an online course for college. We called these "telecourses" back in the day but I guess they don't mail out VHS tapes anymore. Anyways, he gets a text book and it comes with a DVD. On the DVD are instructions to install Virtual PC 2007 SP1 from it. When you install it, it already has a CD Key in it so it looks like an MSDN copy but I'm not sure. Then it says to copy the VHD and VMC file from the DVD into a folder in My Documents. Then obviously, open VPC and create a VM from an existing machine. My co-worker has tried this on three different computers using 2 different VMs. 2 PCs running XP and one running Vista. Also had tried the VPC on the DVD as well as VirtualBox which I pointed out to him. After 2 weeks, he's bummed out because he can't get it to work and asked if I could give it a shot. There is one problem to start off with, and that is the VMC file has a static path to wherever the VHD was originally created before it was put on the DVD master before being pressed/replicated. I fixed this path to match its new path. Also, it appears that the VHD itself was renamed since it was created and being put on the DVD. I fixed this also. Without doing this fix, adding the VMC into VPC generated an error. What appears now is that it is impossible to use this VHD as per the instructions. My host OS is Windows 7 Professional x86. By looking at the VMC, it says the guest OS is Windows XP Pro SP2. Now there is no documentation on the DVD or in the book (although I didn't read the whole thing) that would say how it would be possible to sell a Book that came with a DVD that had a Windows XP VHD on it, let alone that copy of VPC that's on it as well. This may well limit the responses I can get here come to think of it.... Lock this thread if you feel its warranted. For background info, the book is "Computer Forensics Jump Start", printed by Sybex, ISBN: 978-0-470-46195. It appears the VHD is corrupted. Here are the following behaviours: Virtual PC 2007 SP1 When starting the session, it goes to "A disk read error occurred" Disk Management Attach VHD: "The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable." VirtualBox Virtual Media Manager Add Disk: Failed to open the hard disk F:\VHDs\CFHardDisk.vhd. Could not get the storage format of the hard disk 'F:\VHDs\CFHardDisk.vhd' (VERR_NOT_SUPPORTED). Do you think the VHD gets corrupted during the file copy or is it already corrupted on the DVD?
  6. First, an official diagram shows how you can use this specific AP to connect wired to an Xbox, I don't think the AP cares if it is an Xbox or a PC: http://www.dlink.com.au/Images/Product_ima...150_3_modes.jpg Second, if your second router lets you use it in Bridge Mode, that may work also. Correction, note that each router may have to use exceptions for DHCP, or one must have DHCP disabled and use static IP.
  7. Also, as I noted before, it is recommended you sysprep your Windows 7 image before capture. Did you sysprep the image first?
  8. Firstly, it appears that the file you are installing is to allow KMS to service Server 2008 and Windows 7 clients, and is intended for install onto Server 2003. This information is available here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948003 Finding info on this seems a bit tricky, but this may lead you in a better direction: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/968912
  9. The driver update seems to have worked. We will likely end up doing some more testing tomorrow, as I only ghosted a netbook and its image is pretty small. We shall see how ghosting a server goes, but I think this issue is solved.
  10. Why do you need an add-on for Firefox to add a Proxy? It has built-in Proxy settings under Advanced\Network. Also, note Maxthon is just a shell for Internet Explorer and not a true browser.
  11. Also see the following: http://www.msfn.org/board/windows-goshmode...ed-t140916.html
  12. I'm not sure about the questions you've asked but it seems like you've already started posting around.
  13. I see that, not sure why. Hopefully just a bug.
  14. What are the error codes and responses you get from running the commands?
  15. This isn't actually the reason. OEM/SB are not allowed to activate retail keys, and consumers are not allowed to activate OEM keys. There may be some different Partner level policies different than what I know of, however.
  16. I recently got a second monitor again and am now using dual display with the second monitor set to Extend. For some reason, Firefox opens by default on the second monitor and I can't figure out why it does that. How can I change it so Firefox opens on the primary monitor, or how can I reset its remembered position? I've tried the "alt+close" thing but that didn't do it.
  17. BANNED! Oh i guess it's Elvis' birthday too. I almost typed Evils....
  18. I updated the driver for the NIC to the latest, which is still over a year old, and rebooted. Now I do not even have an Advanced tab, although the device still has the same name. How can I determine that these features are not being used? I won't be able to see if the issue is resolved as we won't be using Ghost likely until early next week. Hopefully this driver update was enough.
  19. OK i had to make sure you made system req, and it seems you do. I will move this topic to Gaming Forum. I did some research and found that this game uses a file in the data folder (from the install disc) with custom cursors, and if that didn't get copied over then you won't see an arrow. It may also be a localisation issue. I see that this game is in multiple languages but also from Steam. What language is on the box, or maybe you got it from Steam. Also what language install of Windows 7 do you have?
  20. I tried to both apply the hotfix and disabling the options manually. Both the same result. This occurs during the two scenarios: 1. Running the hotfix, before the screen with the Finish button comes up 2. Deselect/disable the offloading options in Device Properties, click OK and before Properties screen goes away DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL STOP: 0xD1 (0x141, 0x2, 0x0, 0xFFFFFADF8EF179E2) e1e5132e.sys <--- this is the Intel Pro 1000 driver Address FFFFFADF8EF179E2 base at FFFFFADF8EF0D000 Datestamp 45f08ad6 I stopped the machine from doing a memory dump because there would be no feasible way for me to get the DMP file off the drive. Both times I restarted and booted back into Windows using Last Known Good Config. So it seems Server 2003 doesn't like turning off those features. I did notice in the Intel NIC properties, concerning TCP/IP offloading, that it should not be enabled if servicing DOS clients, which we use the DOS client of Symantec Ghost. Any other ideas?
  21. Can you post your system specs, such as video card?
  22. Actually, Windows 7 went RTM on October 22, 2009.
  23. I've got some questions about which Counters I should be using to determine the problem with our file server. This server is not listed in my Servers thread, but here are the specs: Server 2003 Standard x64 SP2 Intel Server board (likely 3210SHLC or other entry level Intel Server board) 4GB DDR2 533 2x Xeon quad-core E5320 1.86GHz healthy RAID5 array on 3Ware 9550 8 port A main concern is that the OS volume is also in the RAID5 as well as the data volume. They are as follows: C: is a 50GB partition and has 6.34GB free D: is a 1.7TB partition and has 287GB free While under load (load meaning an active GhostCast Multicast session is in progress) doing anything on the server is very slow. Examples are: navigating the Start Menu, opening Windows, traversing folders, connecting to 3DM2 (using IE6) and even the GhostCase itself is slow. Network throughput out during the Cast sits around 1%, and average perhaps 100Mbps. The network is not the bottleneck of the system, as our WDS Server has no problem achieving respectable speeds, and of course the physical system seems to suffer. After load is released from the server, it returns to normal. I ran the following Counters and all results appear nominal: Disk Current Disk Queue Length: < 1 (I did not get to capture this value before the load was released) Avg. Read Queue Length: 0.229 Avg Write Queue Length: 0.116 % Disk Time: 20.104 Network Output Queue Length: 0 CPU CPU Time: 21.870 What other Counters should I try to help determine the problem?
  24. Network shares too I beleve, you can't share a DIR with Starter "out of the box". Nope, that's not true either. I can share a folder just fine. It has the context options of "Share With" Nobody (default), Homegroup (read) and Homegroup (read/write). If I do a properties of a folder, I can see Sharing tabs and Security tabs, which look the same as it does in 7 Pro and Vista. In fact, I've already used this ability and done network transfers of files.
  25. Ah you guys are getting carried away here! If you want to capture the image off the drive, you only capture the second partition, NOT the System Reserved. Then on the new disk, you create a 100MB system reserved partition but do not assign it a drive letter. Make it the same size of 100MB. Then create a second partition that takes up the rest of the drive, assign it the C letter. Apply your OS image onto the C drive. The scripts I posted are for deploying the OS partition. Notice it doesn't do anything to the System Reserved partition except for creating it. When you first boot into the OS, Sysprep puts the correct files into the System Reserved partition. So... um make sure you sysprep you image before capturing it! Either /oobe or /audit should be fine.
