  1. I would hardly consider this a valid complaint against Windows 7. Halo was released in 2001 with an OS requirement of Windows 98 SE.
  2. Sure you can change the transparency. I know in Unattend it is this: <Themes> <ThemeName>aero</ThemeName> <DefaultThemesOff>false</DefaultThemesOff> <WindowColor>Slate</WindowColor> </Themes> The WindowColor object only supports the built in values. I don't think you can put an RGB or HEX value in there. List of colors: WindowColor on TechNet I would presume this could be changed via the registry also.
  3. I saw that wasn't China's flag either. I try to play it safe, I was originally going to greet with a video from "The Prisoner"
  4. Some day I'll learn how to do that myself, but I have yet to determine a use for that technology in my work.
  5. Welcome to the MSFN!
  6. I found a sad face in Windows 8! It looks like this To get it, let the computer go into hibernate. Then unplug the hard drive. Then turn on the PC. After about a minute it will go to a blue screen with a sad face. Unfortunately, it reboots after less than a second so I couldn't get a picture of it.
  7. Do not use the reseal to OOBE in your unattend. When you use the /OOBE switch with sysprep.exe, it does this instead. I have never found a valid use of the reseal in unattend other than to set it to Audit. Why it has other options is beyond me. If you are booting into Audit Mode, you'll want to use an Autounattend.xml that only has your base installation settings in it. That is basically your WindowsPE pass and oobeSystem just to use Audit. Then you make another answer file that has all your other settings for passes and use that with the /unattend switch. Its easier to manage you answer files by using two sets of them, at least for me it is. However, since you want to make a DVD that just installs all by itself, you won't want to put it in Audit Mode at all!
  8. Its the same for WES7 as it is for Win7. Example: <FirstLogonCommands> <SynchronousCommand wcm:action="add"> <Order>1</Order> <Description>Running Registry Change</Description> <CommandLine>cmd /C start /wait c:\folder\registry_change.exe</CommandLine> </SynchronousCommand> </FirstLogonCommands> In my case, I do not put the command in there. You could use a .cmd file in that place if you'd like.
  9. This right here is possibly one of the longest lasting bugs. Its the worst thing when a print job gets stuck for some reason. And then they handily give you options like Restart, Cancel, whatever but they rarely work when the job is stuck. Then you have to go through the process of rebooting the printer and/or computer and hope and pray that the print job goes away! What about the PowerShell prompt? I never use it myself... Thumbs was definately a scourge during XP, but I haven't noticed it too much in 7. As far as Desktop.ini, it is one reason why I don't choose the option to show hidden files, since when you do you get two desktop.ini on the Desktop. I know why they are there but come on... Speaking of which, what if there was a way to show hidden files just in certain folders? Say i want to see everything in the Windows folder or AppData, but I don't need to see everything else unless I want to! That's because you have 3 primary partitions already. Your Win7, Win8 and recovery partition are primary. So that's likely what your limit is. Try using a VHD install instead to a USB key/HDD.
  10. I (personally) would NOT be inclined to use a program that modifies Vista/7 bootloader on an XP/NT/98 system!
  11. Uggg multi-monitor leaves a lot to be desired. Metro doesn't use both and the taskbar it more like a clone. It had (yes had) default IE9 and "Explorer" icons on both screens. When I unpinned the "Explorer" from the second screen's taskbar, it disappeared from the first as well. Metro is really flakey when you have it on one screen and you try to do things, like the hover on the right side to get the fly-out menu, since you have to stop your arrow. But (I didn't notice this in older Windows versions, it might be there) I see that you can arrange displays vertically! That's neat. I must say the WORST THING about this is that the pinball game it comes with DOES NOT HAVE MULTIBALL. I mean seriously, why bother. Its like a baseball game where you can't hit home runs.
  12. OOOO OK maybe I'll get off my rear and download this and try it out. It may not be pretty, I'm getting low on working monitors.
  13. I think it was just supposed to be a joke.
  14. I have seen the same card (not this particular one, this is an example) being sold by two different OEMs that have different PSU requirements.
  15. Oh crazy... new wallpaper on that one! I haven't heard much about using either of the Win8 on multimonitor. How does that turn out? Also about WDP "expiring" you can easily get around that by changing the date in the BIOS and make sure it doesn't ever connect to the internet. Of course, I realise that a computer that doesn't connect to the internet feels like an alien concept.
  16. Hmmm does it support the achievements?
  17. An example of a KB would be helpful.
  18. The default for what? If you mean file associations, you'll have to point them directly to the EXE. I haven't heard of any sort of breakdown/comparison of gain (or whatever) with using the 64bit WMP. What have you heard?
  19. I think MS would be wise to create a workstation version of the next OS for people like us. Some preview articles I have read say there is a hidden start button in the lower left that can get you access to the standard desktop. No I haven't tried it yet. I may tomorrow. Although I do not actually use the Desktop interface anymore in my day-to-day work, I do make use of the taskbar.
  20. I never know about those PSU calculator sites. I've seen situations where the values they provide do not match up with actual configurations. As far as what video card to get, I look at what programs I want to be running and what their minimum requirement is. Then just pick something that is above that (or the recommended) in whatever price range I am willing to pay. That and (for me at least) I will always get one with a fan on it. For PSU, if the video card you are looking at does not list a PSU requirement (some vendors do not publish this info online, such as MSI) then its hard to tell. Oddly enough, that requirement will be on the video card box. Another thing to go on is what the board itself is looking for. The Technical Product Specification for your board shows the following: Personally, I've not used a sub 400W PSU since 2000.

  22. Couldn't you use a VM and migrate the root domain to it, then create a child domain and then migrate the objects? You could even use any old computer to house a root domain that does nothing other than just sitting there.
