  1. Cleaned a Home yesterday over the phone. Had them run Malwarebytes

He had paid version Avast and they offered to clean it for him for $120.00 :thumbdown but declined and called me

I would guess he clicked something he shouldn't

Defender was running on it also

  2. I wrote my own applicatiion, which do it's job properly and in 1/3 of time wim_tweak is doing. Serveral tests are approving that.

OK show us what you got. Above you said you were not a programmer
  3. There is another problem with this tool:

The owners key of every package has to be deleted to remove a package, otherwise you will get a "access denied" error, but thats not the problem. The problem is, that it not recover the owners key after removing packages!

So you won't be able to enable Net Framework 3.5 after using install_wim_tweak and this may be for other features too.

You must be an MS Troll or you screwed your system up so bad

    BS I install 3.5

Once again, DON'T USE IT. I don't have any problems with it. Does what I need it to do, remove Cortana and Edge when I was using Pro

We have discovered that you might need to use Github method first

    as noted here http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/174344-uninstall-cortana-from-windows-10/

  4. How to move boot files from EFI System partition to C: drive so that i can delete EFI partition? or is it not possible?

You can switch back but have to then reinstall doze is best method. I just went into Bios and disabled my uefi for me it was in Boot Order and selected it and disabled. Then delete all partitions on Disk 0 in this win 10 install screen, then select new and let it do its thing

  5. MaxXPsoft, what benefit do you get from running the LTSB?  Besides avoiding the forced in-place upgrade every 4 months I mean.  DirectX 12 support?  That's the only feature I've heard anyone tout that's available exclusively in Win 10.

Looking at the differences between that and stripped Pro. reg, dirs and so on

    Corps not gonna allow telemetry

    At every logon:

Enable the Windows Firewall service and try again.

Not really a problem since I don't run the Windows Firewall, having replaced it with a better tool, so my system is stable.  But I'm curious...

MaxXPsoft, just for clarity, are you saying you don't see this message logged in the place I described?  I would like it not to be there.

    -Noel

Nothing in there except 5590 about ShellExperienceHost launching.

I use 3rd party firewall also Windows Firewall Control V4.5

from LTSB    I guess i "removed" too much

Easy to do. Why I stick by my Acronis, 6 minutes I'm back to try another route.

Am pleased with this LTSB but I guess I'm on a 90 day turn around but don't matter to me I hose it up before then anyway tinkering with stuff. I would buy this if I could of all the X10 version's. They not gonna screw with the Enterprise versions cause that's their only money trail anymore, that and OEM's. So have to realize they not really giving away free that much, most buy OEM PC's and the OS already paid for.

  8. I reinstalled LTSB ran git, wimtweak, powershell and tried everything. With Powershell 2 apps would not  show uninstall CloudExperienceHost and Cortana and I was getting errors in Event Log about Cortana like opdenis

    Hmmm

Using HTG Takeownership took owner on Windows\SystemApps and deleted every folder of everything I uninstalled

    reboot still errors

Using HTG Takeownership took owner on srd directory

Used SQLiteDatabaseBrowserPortable and opened .srd file direct. Its showing Isinbox at 0 so I thought what the heck. I deleted the records of everything I uninstalled which means everything but immersivecontrolpanel and ShellExperienceHost. 'Write Changes' and exit. Now delete every file and folder in that folder with name of anything you uninstalled. Check the Sub Folders also

Clear Event Log and Reboot error still there.

Using my Jump2RegTen I searched for exact name it was showing in Event Log Cortana*_neutral and found 2 KEYS very Interesting

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Appx\AppxAllUserStore\Deleted\EndOfLife

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Appx\AppxAllUserStore\EndOfLife

There are 2 keys under that named S-1- identical

    M3HuO2z.png

Delete both the S-1- keys and clear event Log and reboot

No more errors from Cortana in Event Log for me

I do not know whether it was a combination of ALL. Whatever Works

This is the HTG Take Ownership registry file I use. It serves me well

  9. Nice but can't use. I have 2012 Essentials and it connects to my 2 accounts and Hotmail Ive had for a very long time.

But I got a email in Hotmail yesterday saying I needed to updrade to W10 and use the mail in it. excuse me. it didn't accept my 3 accounts and also wanted me to have a microsoft account which took over my User when I tested that. No thanks

Off to work on reinstalling Thunderbird then maybe I can disable another service.

  10. Mine is not that much slower. I look at Noels Ad Hoc win 10 image and wonder how my junky old system is beating his Haswell. Mine is MBR and not UEFI. This is just an HP I bought at Sam's at the time

Found the win 7 image I made before upgrade to 10240 on my external usb drive. Installed and I'm activated. Did a full image back so only win 7 on this drive right now. Mine are not VM

    5fw2sC5.jpg

  11. That's why I put on this LTSB because it won't be replaced every 4 months and you control the updates. This eval will but just testing things and digging around the registry and file system comparing to stripped down Pro. Search2 was there but wimtweak took care of that and remnants of cortana

Its running identical to stripped down Pro according to passmark and yes that is a better measure because to me this 10 runs faster than 7 ever did with a 2011 HP I7-2600 @ 3.4ghz and 8gb ram with SSD. Same thing I ran on 7. Have 2 pages of APPS on here in add/remove, same things I ran on 7. Think we all know more stuff you add slower they get

Also being a long time Unattender will wipe my system about every month or so just to try new things or different scripts I wanna test so their ain't much garbage collects here. Perfect those things and its really easy. Gotta love RunOnceEx

I know a guy has a PC store/shop gonna call about the Enterprise.

BTW this is 10240 Enterprise VS 10586 Pro so wheres the difference?

    eM5evIP.png

  12. Wow, installed a dual boot with Enterprise LTSB [Version 10.0.10240] evaluation and am impressed.

    For those don't know
Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB (Long Term Servicing Branch) is like Windows 10 Enterprise but will not receive any feature updates, gives companies more control over the update process and is the most stripped down edition of Windows 10 available.
It lacks the following applications and features:

    1.  Store including most modern apps like Xbox, Contacts, etc.
    2.             There are only four remaining modern apps: Contact Support, Search, Settings, and Windows Feedback
    3.             It is also not possible to reinstall the Store
    4.   Cortana
    5.   Edge
    6. The following applications are replaced with their old counterpart: Modern Calculator is replaced with the original calc.exe

All that a + for me

Check Search2 with wimtweak, not there still in packages and Cortana

I Search from Taskbar it only searches my computer, could not see it going out on Inet to look. Only results from My Computer were displayed.

Run a Passmark and get same results as stripped down version of Pro Like Noel and I were doing.

This I would buy as I have every OS from MS I have used. When I buy it its my PC and I feel like I can do whatever I want to it.

Trouble is most users can't buy or at least easily.

Maybe if we formed a corporation Geeks Against Garbage

  13. @maxXPsoft

I think it's not correct, what he is doing. I mean only the lines:

I see differences in package names look closer

    Microsoft-OneCore-UserDataAccess-base-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~de-DE~10.0.10586.0

    Microsoft-OneCore-UserDataAccess-base-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.10586.0

    Microsoft-OneCore-UserDataAccess-net-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~de-DE~10.0.10586.0

    Microsoft-OneCore-UserDataAccess-net-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.10586.0

If you specify full name it will only remove the one, if you say Microsoft-OneCore-UserDataAccess it will get both

    I use Microsoft-Windows-Search2 it removes 12 packages

  14. 3. From that cmd (System) goto directory which contains script and run it:

    How can I prevent it?

By following INSTRUCTIONS. I Have said 3-4 times, don't call a script. PASTE PASTE in window that opens. It is the window that is elevated by psexec not calling  a script that isn't. That is what works for me.

If Noel has a better solution then maybe he can show us but I have been trying to use scripts and it hasn't worked.

I think running those commands straight in a row by pasting knocks out whatever where it works.

I say this because I didn't do a dir I had folder opened where I was watching what was happening with some Pause in my PASTE.

With 10586 you may need to also disable the live tile on Store. Strange things were happening with it enabled.

  15. Seems desirable to run them both.

I already had Win 10 well-muzzled, but there was still an ongoing attempt to contact a server from time to time, maybe once an hour or so.

Two thumbs up for W10Privacy from me.  I'm glad - though not at all surprised - to see such software being made available by conscientious and thoughtful people.

    -Noel

Did you turn off MAPS? I found that creature updating itself, something not included in either above.

Can do same by going in and unchecking update but I prefer to add it to my ST*U reg list

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Maps]

    "AutoUpdateEnabled"=dword:00000000

Staying legal for now but got an evaluation copy of Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB, Build 10240 and about to partition off and install a dual boot. I want to see the difference and dig around in that a bit. Besides, if it don't work out will have a nice partition on my SSD for Linux Mint with dvd already burned.

  16. Has anyone asked himself, what this tool is doing? I don't understand f***ing C# or Java but it looks crappy.

    Why he is doing:

He removes packages by starting pkmgr twice, why? Why 800 lines for a few simple actions? It's doing it's work but it's outdated for win 8 and 10. But seriously, why removing twice?

    Troll does it work?

If you don't like don't use. Works for me for what I use it for. Yes its old but still working to get rid of Cortana.

I know a bit about programming and I can see what he's doing. Those twice you talk about Console.Write is just writing to screen so go hide behind a bush somewhere.

EDIT: And if you haven't messed with uninstalling Packages then yes you have Packages and Pending if you care to dig a little deeper

  17.

I used the W10Privacy first, then Github, then wimtweak and finished off with PS and Dism

Do you know whether W10Privacy provides anything more than / better than O&O ShutUp10?  Seems like I've asked this question, but somehow I can't find it.

Edit:  Never mind, I scared up a copy and experimented with it.  Seems nice, and spills over a bit from "enhancing privacy" to tweaking (e.g., desktop icon spacing, uninstalling Apps, etc.).  At least it didn't try communicating with any server.  :)

    -Noel

You can set it to check for update if you want but otherwise it don't try to communicate with anything.

    1. Uninstalls APPS both user and system so is easiest to run after a fresh install. Then only mopping up

    2. Has lots of Host and Firewall entries if you don't block by default

O&O has a few more settings I see last compare I done was like 8 more. I'll have to run and capture what its doing now

    I used both experimenting

  18. @maxXPsoft - I may need some help with some of those "unwanted items". My brother is (or was) considering WinX and I'm pretty sure he (nor I) would want some of it. He's sitting tight on Win7Pro HP OEM right now (a PC he got from a business) but asked about the "Free Winx". I warned him off (Win7 support->2020?) but told him he would need to Upgrade once pretty soon (then restore his Win7) if he expected to use it after Win7.

This is going to be fun (not!), and thanx for the tool. :thumbup

That's close to what I had HP but had upgraded to Pro and kept installing it with OEM's unattended.

I held out for awhile keeping a couple but the Metro Apps are really junk. No telling how much longer we will be able to git rid of junk like Noel and I have done with cortana post. We can only hope once they change things others will come up with ways to eliminate or we figure things out ourselves.

I have to keep up since my very large company is headed towards Win 10 and I work on everything from Dos machines on up to .Net programming. Course they won't have the rubbish like rest of us with Enterprise.

  19. One would have to choose to install CCC, as it doesn't just magically appear.

jmonroe0914 You don't have much experience with this 10 do you?

After install and I hit desktop first thing happens is it installs Onedrive or updates it. I run script to remove.

Next thing comes down is display drivers which is full CCC for me. I didn't choose anything it just happens on each and every fresh install. MS installs drivers it wants.

I have even unplugged ethernet and tried installing just driver but it knows best and installs Catalyst soon after I hook back up

Have done installed many times and seen this happening because I have to wait till its done before my disabling will work. I'm just disabling certain components from starting with Doze

  20. PS in an admin I start off with Set-ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned

Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers | Select Name, PackageFullName
Get-AppxProvisionedPackage -Online | Select DisplayName, PackageName

    Get-AppxProvisionedPackage -online | Remove-AppxProvisionedPackage -online

also can be used from PS

    DISM /Online /Get-ProvisionedAppxPackages
    DISM /Online /Remove-ProvisionedAppxPackage /PackageName:Microsoft.xxx

Its basically whatever it takes to remove. I use it all to see whats there and remove what I don't want. I used the W10Privacy first, then Github, then wimtweak and finished off with PS and Dism

  21. You're making the disabling of startup items and services far more complicated than it needs to be. There are legitimate uses for editing the registry directly... this is not one of them, mainly because you are literally making what you're trying to accomplish far more difficult than it needs to be.

That is totally not what I'm doing.

You hold the shift key and right click desktop you get 'Open Command Window Here' on desktop or background

    OMG I manipulated the registry.

I don't have to hit shift and its on my right click.

Now I want Administrator cmd prompt on that and discovering them keys helps me figure out these things

I know all about the ways to do this like Win+X and otherwise but its NOT what I want

I repeat I will offend the registry again and again
