    Since when did losing occasional keystrokes and positioning the mouse to within less than 1.0 pixels to be able to grab an edge or corner make a system more professional or easier to use?

    Yes I hate that desktop thingy way over there on the right so I use that shortcut thing. https://www.repairwin.com/add-show-desktop-icon-in-windows-10-8-or-7-taskbar/

    Using on Win11 currently

    A test of Windows 11 Search has failed spectatularly, but of course I have come to accept that Search will never be as good as it used to be. The test being have a folder with a text file and a string, then do a file contents search for that string and ideally that file should appear in the results. Well, no it shows no results even after choosing the option for file contents. This has been a big issue for me for years even going back to Vista. Even Windows 7 has this issue where file content search doesn't work except for when it does. I have 3 PC here (2x Win7 and 1x Win10) and if I need to find a string in a file, I have to copy everything to the other Win7 PC to do the content search because it doesn't work on the other Win7 or the Win10 PC. And even so, actual file search in Explorer (when not looking for contents) is usually so slow that I may often find myself using CMD to find file locations instead.

    Trip you are right windows search has been a problem with Win for some time so I use a separate search app and have been using it for a long time. Right click on any drive folder whatever. Does file contents also but when I am doing that it works better to put quotes around "Cortana" You can install and use the Free version FileLocator Lite https://www.mythicsoft.com/filelocatorlite/download/

    I have a feeling that there are already versions (or builds) that have been lost due to MS using a "live system" of updates. And while there may well be computers with those builds that never got updated, the installation media may not have been preserved. This is even more the case since MS doesn't mail pressed discs to Partners anymore, not even in the Embedded/IoT Channel. The last pressed disc I got from Microsoft was the IoT Enterprise 2015 LTSB kit. Everything after that has been download only, and since the files online can and do get changed by MS, I am certain some things have been "lost."

    I am (quite a bit) outside of the hardware loop :w00t: and my experience with Windows 10 is extremely limited (I only happen to do quick fixes to the PC's of friends from time to time).

    From what you saying looks like you thinking of getting into building these cheap PC's? Yeah I ran on internal graphics for many moons before it messed up and figured out I could add a card. Now can't stand a slow PC like I deal with at work but am dealing with baby at and dos in some cases. Added 128mb ram to 4 of them and dos does run faster. :buehehe:

    Agree with Trip

    except MS already admited (it was in some now outdated article), they can see what is on your hard drive and what files do you access.

    Well I have nothing to hide and out of a billion I'm probably not worth looking at. I've experimented quite a bit with many of their OS and hacked on them. If anyone that afraid of MS seeing what they have then why are they not running Linux? I run those scripts to remove the stuff for 1 main reason, speed the PC up. I run doze cause that's what we use at work and I stay on top of my game cause I'm a maintenance electronic tech who work's on PC also.

  7. Yep I'm one of those billion but with no problems whatsoever but after 40+ years working I also run a good enough system. Usually run Noels script since he got it going and it was still working although I modify it a bit but this time around trying the Decrapifier. Don't care if MS is spying on what? I care more about china or other hackers trying to get into my system and use it for whatever so I focus on that.

    Working on a friends media server coping a whole bunch of old drives to a new storage pool. He was using a robocopy command and I noticed he did not have a restartable switch. Now i'm sure the way this went down that there a few files that were cut off half way. If I just re run a robocopy script will it see that file as a changed file and update it? I was thinking if that was the case I would just run the script for all the drives and let it pick up whatever it needs to. should only be talking about a handful of files across 5 drives so it shouldn't take long.

    If it see they are different especially in size then it will try again to copy. Could setup a longer time delay so you can what is happening. /W:20

    Maybe just post the robocopy command?

  9. Update to 1.0.5

    Adding TrackWatch to this under ? icon where I export before and after of 2 Drives and all Registry settings. Then do a quick export of settings that have changed between the before and after. Its not where I want it to be but still working on it. I am exporting the Results to Temp folder so you most likely want to do a Disk Cleanup removing all files from Temp also because it gets really big. Its my replacement to InstallWatchPro that expired.

  10. Just ran into this trying to copy Apple Drive folders on Win 10 1903. Error access denied.

    So all I done was add the "HasLUAShield"="" to my right click on desktop Quicklaunch

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    ;SOFTWARE ###################################################################################
    ;Erase to rewrite and update
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Directory\ContextMenus\QuickLaunch]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Directory\Background\shell\Quick Launch]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Directory\ContextMenus\QuickLaunch]

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Directory\Background\shell\Quick Launch]
    "MUIVerb"="Quick Launch"
    "ExtendedSubCommandsKey"="Directory\\ContextMenus\\QuickLaunch"
    "icon"="C:\\Windows\\system32\\imageres.dll,105.ico"
    "Position"="Top"
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Directory\Background\shell\Quick Launch\command]

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Directory\ContextMenus\QuickLaunch\Shell\Apps105]
    "MUIVerb"="Se7en_UA"
    "icon"="D:\\Se7en_UA\\Se7en_UA.exe"
    "HasLUAShield"=""

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Directory\ContextMenus\QuickLaunch\Shell\Apps105\command]
    @="D:\\Se7en_UA\\Se7en_UA.exe"

  11. I have been fighting this W10 against this app working probably since I installed W10. Done a few things to get it going again along the way. Yesterday it quits for no reason. Anyone else use this? InstallwatchPro. Yes I know it is abandonware but it worked up to Yesterday

    It is the best ALLINONE app for tracking changes to reg and files and folders for a long time like during an install or you just change something in the settings and want to see where it is making changes. 99 out of 100 it makes reg changes so I want to have that to include on my next installs. I replaced all the dll it used by Mikeysoft about 8 with latest version one at a time and done a reinstall and still crashing.

    Don't see any recent updates but we know Mikey slips things in without our knowledge. I run a stripped down version per Noels script.

    Don't even mention whatchanged. I tracked 2 keys HKLM and HKCU and it took like 30 minutes  over an hour. OMG that sucks

    The normal complaint about rehosted files is that there is no need to rehost a file when it is available elsewhere. But this is Legolash2o's creation, so the original or official link is on a forum somewhere. Either way, it is not worth to report this.

    Thanks Trip

    I was going to search winaero for that but was busy this morning. I see it using wimtweak which is old now. 2nd post I commented on that back on Posted August 24, 2015 I'll stick to Noels script works just fine

    Your link does not lead to the correct software. Winaero Tweaker hits so many flags it often cannot make the customizations it promises.

    If you're going to suggest a different link make sure it leads to the same app, which your link does not.

    Dude I'm not gonna download anybodys crap ok and nobody else should, you in nerd ville for windows tweakers and also very careful people. I gave link to download original Winaero Tweaker which I have no problem running.

    And besides that UNINSTALL CORTANA is the post Topic not disable

    If it hasn't been mentioned, WinAero has released a solution. It worked on build 14565 when I last used it, but I'm not sure about future versions.

    this doesn't uninstall Cortana, but it edits the package ID, causing it to disappear from the PC because RPC flags it and prevents it from starting.

    You can download the ZIP file from my OneDrive.

    Winaero can disable it and why use your link. go direct

    What's the best way to remove Cortana yet keep the search functionality in the latest Windows 10 (1703)?

    Will it also reduce the number of services running in the background?

    Thank You.

    The first couple posts of this thread are a bit confusing as to what is the best tool or combination of tools.  Would be nice to edit those to clarify what is now known to be the best method... Thanks

    Clearly stated in first Post that Noel has a script and a link to it. Does it need bells and whistles around it?

    I still use it and have modified his script to leave some items I want to keep.

    Other stuff there was our attempts at doing this early on.

  16. Did that in place Upgrade to W10 Creators Update and my right click "Jump2RegTen with key" quit working. Other things messed up also. Have to look at installing with an Unattended possibly to get rid of overhead garbage but will have to test in a VM to tweak it up before I completely wipe it.

    Noel's script put me back but still a bunch of problems that were working before.

    Was using powershell to capture clipboard and open registry with it but this no longer works.

    Working on a C# fix

    Untill then I use this

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shell\Jump2RegTen with key]
    "MUIVerb"="Jump2RegTen with key"
    "icon"="C:\\WINDOWS\\Jump2regTen.exe"
    "Position"="Top"
    "HasLUAShield"=""
    "NoWorkingDirectory"=""

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shell\Jump2RegTen with key\command]
    @="C:\\WINDOWS\\Jump2regTen.exe"
  17. You can decompress to a install.wim though it might be larger

    Take note of the index of the particular OS version you'd like to install (in case the esd has many images therein) the number is what is inserted in the SourceIndex. Am choosing index 1 (Windows 7 Home Premium)

    From an ADMIN cmd prompt in same folder

    dism /export-image /SourceImageFile:install.esd /SourceIndex:1 /DestinationImageFile:install.wim /Compress:max /CheckIntegrity

    I know with ESD it installs much faster so figuring this out might be needed.
