  1. why not scanreg /restore ?
  2. I did the updates except the resident one browseui was changed but the patched one in windows was untouched, is that ok ? Why are they changing it if it's a security risk ? this is the 3rd or forth time they fiddled with these files, what gives ?
  3. ok, that's not funny..... I don't like the looks of that floating ad.. See here the font is green but the disabled or backgrounfd font is black........
  4. What's that all about ?
  5. Ok I don't believe it's so easy to get through a hardware firewall and a software firewall without being noticed. Even if someone did, who cares ? Maybe you can activate my cam and watch as i pick my nose........ If I kill the Juice on my system, it don't hurt a thing. It's recommended when things go south, it's safer than hitting reset. I just hit the main switch on my back ups and everything is off, even the adsl and router. 98se is tough man, REAL TOUGH. Way tougher than XP, XP is a joke.
  6. Hey people, ok there's no secret here, you see my system, the most important thing is your bios settings, 80 wire-drive cable and ATA133. Unless you have a fast IDE your not going anyfaster, I can run a old ATA mode 1 drive and it slows my machine down large. My next step is getting a SATA drive and a Nforce2 MOBO, I got dual channel ram already and a good chip but I'm tapped for now. You need lots of ram, and ditch your swap file and a few tweaks they have on this forum. I don't bother with any "packs" unless I unzip them and grab the goodies but that,s it. NOW as for flash player, ADOBE SUCKS!!, I hate adobe and now they own flash, and all macromedia versions became "a security risk". Funny seems the other way around !! I'm none too happy about it, also Yahoo Mess. uses Flash for all their animations including talking emotions and such. So if you like white boxes with a red X everywhere then go uninstal it. I'm hangin' in there until a windows compatible Linux OS comes out I hear there's one on the way. Ummm no, flash is junk now and the setting don't work, it did, but now it don't, that's not windows fault ! Get a spare harddrive and format it, make sure it's big enough. Install the DLG and reboot, then select drive to drive copy. copy you drive C to D or what ever drive is the new blank one. It copies everything down to the dirt and it's an exact clone. Now when you disk scews up, format it and do the reverse, forever..... Window washer has been on my system since I had a P133 and it is was slow, but not with a 2.2ghz cpu......., also I see it is removing kb's of data, CCleaner blanks out when deleting many files so who know where they went ? And I use a laser mouse now with the lil scroll wheel, USB plugged. I also broke my glass kitchen table slamming that lame a$$ ball mouse.
  7. I have no glitches or lockups, and 98 runs fast as hell. Flash runs fine but I can't get my global settings to stay put anymore, I set them to block all junk and then I go back and it's right where it was again. I have reg mech. 2.01 and window washer 5.0(5.1.0.2) with custom plug-ins for flash. I have S&D too, I threw my ball mouse aross the parking lot a long time ago. The facts are, nothing is going to last long these days, that's why I keep a copy of my drive, if things look funny I just format and copy the drive back, works everytime. I use this Data Lifeguard Tools 11.2 for Windows I don't think it checks for a WD disk, I have maxtors

  9. Oh great, that's like losing your Mastercard, telling everyone you lost it and not cancelling it.......gee thanks Bill.......
  10. Guess it's been awhile since Bill has spent time in the garage tinkering......my, my has the BILLIONS of dollars he got from us make him forget ? Do you really think the people who spent $5000 for a P1 are going to like it when they get cut off from their support ? People pumped alot of money into the computer buisness.......... 5 year waranty on this job, and that was 1997, 5 years later they were up to 2000mhz....
  11. Not to be rude but, I think it's best you try and let it think it's at least a mmx, It's probably a good thing it doesn't see the cyrix.....just curious, is that a socket 7 ? I have a AMD 350 socket 7 chip too......... 350 486-100
  12. I agree with the lack of instructions, definitely. ^^^^^^^^^This touches on that a bit........ send your address and I'll send you a few pentium's, I got a amd 486-100mhz if you like them...free
  13. I'd like to see the toolbar letters and it's hard when they are black, how do I change this ? I looked everywhere in my apearance setting and I can only get them to light up when I click on the window.
  14. lol ! idle means that % is availible......lmao !
  15. hi people, look, I'm not runnin xp down, ther's alot of people that pay alot of money to maintain their system and like xp.....I would have liked it too but there is just too many things that i dont like, and wieghing the pro's and con's, 98se come out on top, hands down !! I have 2000pro right here on disk, xpsp1, xp media edition 2005 with sp2, and I have tried to work out the bugs and get it to work, and sometimes it does but it's not long, and listen to this, before it will say, checkdisk has discovered a problem and will now check your disk for errors.......that's where it all goes downhill, after that, it's a ritual that the diskcheck runs, the errors are piddly squat stuff in the Mydocu~ folder, regardless, then the "config list failed" comes up, that's on a drive that never touched the internet yet !! 98 is easy as pie, it has to be the most self repairable os ever, scanreg restore is a big help replacing all the registry if you want....xp don't like that at all. There's alot of problems with xp, I end up putting that disk back in a box with my other spares and continuing with 98se, which is allways there for me, never will it not function, xp.....it's real picky. 98se has been way too loyal and has been there for me for awhile now, XP will never replace that, ever.
  16. now what ? I'm not shifting to XP !

  18. Xp is a joke. It wont go 2-3-3-6 on my ram timings, I get blue sceens for no reason, every 3 or 4th boot, I need to insert the xp disk and repair it. Files wont delete, open ports, un-needed services, secret rootkits, limited support ( XP SP1 is toast soon too) I'm not going away from 98se, I think the only hole is flash player, I cant get the"dont leave crap on my disk" to stay on. I really dont like adobe either. If anything , I'll go freebsd or linux
  19. jb weld maybe...... I think the volcano 12 is the same piece, with a bigger fan........gotta get a bigger fan....... http://www.dirkvader.de/page/tt-silentboost.html www.dirkvader.de/ page/volcano12.html
  20. If you look carefully, you can see the fins are glued to the plate, with a L shape bottom, that's what makes it a piece of junk. I should have known better.... The skived way is the way to go.
  21. To open My Computer in a Windows Explorer type view, simply hold down the Shift key and double-click its icon. If you are ever in need of tons of information about your registry, you can access a huge listing of your entire registry hardware keys by entering a simple run command. Just go to Start, then Run. Type in: hwinfo /ui [Enter] Registry entries are displayed in green File attributes in magenta Configuration information in brown Error messages in red Warnings are displayed in blue If you would like to create a desktop shortcut that will automatically boot your system into SafeMode when clicked, here's how: Right click an empty area of your desktop. Select New>> Shortcut. In the command line enter this path: C:\WINDOWS\WIN.COM /D:M then click Next. Choose a name for your shortcut. Click Next. Here, you can select an icon for your new shortcut. Click Finish. Right click your new shortcut and select Properties. Place a checkmark in the box labeled "MS-DOS Mode". Uncheck the box labeled "Warn before entering MS-DOS Mode". Click OK.
