yeah ill back up sesshoumaru on this one, all i changed was adding this update pack and i got the framedyn errors, so here seems a logical place to ask! i will try again to see what happens, fingers crossed! im not bitchin about the pack though, it sounds great, just hope i can get it to work!

any ideas on how to implement the definitions manually without having Internet access? All the files are in zips but am not sure where to extract them to.

nope i havent used nlite, i think i might rip the files back off an older cd, and just update it from that unless you have any more ideas.

ive just used the update pack in my iso and things have gone haywire. just wondered if anyone else has had this problem and knows how to fix it? When logging on I get "framedyn.dll wasn't found". I've makecab'd it again from my system with no change, it doesn't extract it to the system32\wbem folder. After pressing OK I get "Error loading srclient.dll". No optional extras have been installed at all, e.g. IE6, Outlook Express, Games, Sound Recorder, Volume, etc. When going to "Add/Remove Windows Components" it errors saying "Setup was unable to open information file rvmuppck.inf" and it won't go any further. This has only happened since adding this update pack, but im not sure how. one thing i was thinking was that i have 3 TXTSETUP.SIF files, one in I386 and another in PRO1/PRO2 (these are for choosing either attended or unattended setups), do I need to add the following lines to those copies? RVMUpPck.inf = 1,,,,,,,20,0,0 RVMUpPck.cab = 100,,,,,,_x,,3,3 All I did was extract the downloaded cab file into I386 overwriting a few files, then added to DOSNET.INF and TXTSETUP.SIF as stated on the website. When saving in Notepad there are different encodings (Unicode/ANSI), could that make a difference? Many thanks in advance for anyones help on the matter. Paul

in Word go to Insert > Symbol then find them on there or: For the ß symbol: Hold down CTRL+SHIFT, press AMPERSAND (&) then let go and tap the letter S. For the ä symbol: Hold down CTRL+SHIFT, press COLON ( then let go and tap the letter A, put caps lock on to do it in capitals. bit fiddy, that's the only way i can think of doing it, short of having those keys on your keyboard or setting up a macro. hope this is of some use to you. i've tried searching, but i'm not sure it's been answered... is it possible to install the windows update activex control and/or the updated software for the V5 page? basically i would like it so that after the silent install, when going to windows update, no prompts come up, just Express/Custom install options. it must be possible, but i can't find the registry entries. i found the file wuweb.cab and got it to install the INF that is in it no problems, but it doesn't make a difference. any ideas?

aaah, sounds to me like you are using an older version on winrar. winrar changed their compression on a certain version (possible 3.xx) and older versions couldn't extract the files. i recommend going to www.rarlabs.com and downloading the latest version to check (i think thats the url, google it if it doesn't work)

first of all are you sure the %cdrom% variable is being set correctly?you could try writing a .cmd file with that above line in and see if that works also you need to put quotes round your paths as 'Program Files' won't work correctly, it would look like this: that's a start for you anyway... hope it helps

@codeblue right, here's how ive got it so far: export the following keys from your newly set up working zonealarm [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Zone Labs] [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Zone Labs] zllictbl.dat is placed in system32 using the $oem$ folder, install the main program using "ZoneAlarmPro.exe /s /noreboot" then import the reg files works sweet. just gotta implement the program settings now!

hehe i had this, you've gotta use 120%% (double percent signs) to remove it, other wise it don't pick it up, annoyed me for ages!! try it with a sample folder to check.

if you want adobe reader 6 to run faster, use Adobe Reader SpeedUp. it removes some of the uneccessary plugins within it. it works for earlier versions aswell, so you might wanna try speeding up 5.01 some more: http://www.tnk-bootblock.co.uk/prods/misc/index.php its at the top

thats interesting XtremeMaC, i've not tried an MSI editor yet. i use INNO setup for my custom installs. is it possible to edit the MSI in Alcohol 120% that has already been created? or are they protected. i wasn't clear before about those other reg settings, but i thought people might like them if they want to disable the virtual drive and/or tweak the default settings.

thats pretty cool, is there any way you can post what the msi does exactly or is all bundled up. i'd like to know what file/registry changes it makes. i have mine registered and most of the settings in place. all it asks is to confirm the new network, and then ZA pops up asking whether to allow svchost.exe and o&o defrag's service internet access. is there a way of inputting the program/component settings do u think? i wasn't sure i thought it might be possible. i did notice if you open the setup EXE in winrar it has a couple of XML files with settings inside, might try tweaking them...

nice one! you can also use /NOCANCEL to stop anyone pressing the cancel button, or even /VERYSILENT which hides the installation window altogether. these lot of switches work for any program with this type of installer mrcharliebrown, it is INNO setup in case you want to know. one more is /GROUP="CD-DVD Copying Tools" to specify the start menu group.

has anyone here tried both O&O Defrag Pro AND Diskeeper 8. i use O&O at the moment and just wondered if diskeeper is any better. Is O&O's auto-sensing feature any better than the Set It & Forget It in Diskeeper?

zllictbl.dat it is! i put mine in $OEM$\$$\System32 and it worked, just gotta tweak some of the settings though now. strangely though, i shutdown zonealarm, deleted zllictbl.dat and reopened zonealarm, and it still remembered my license. peculiar how some of these vendors store there settings!

does anyone know if it's possible to add an icon to the context menu options? i wanted to add "Open With Notepad" with the notepad icon, and "Open With..." with a standard exe icon, same for the "Open Command Window Here" tweak.

yeah its definitely strange, i might have to settle by using that sendkeys way of inputting serials. i ran inctrl5 (installation monitor) to see what changed, and all that changed was the registry, not even any files within the zonealarm folder. strange. ill try removing the vs files that you mentioned, see if that changes anything. thanx for your input so far Strat.

ill try it again, maybe with the install, then the reg file afterwards. but it doesn't seem to work. in fact on my main computer, if i delete all the registry entries for zonalarm, it still remembers the serial code. strange. is anyone else installing the pro version silently and managed to get around it?

yeah, you can make pretty decent installations with winrar. i have some games in my unattended cd that install into program files, add a shortcut to the start menu, and execute a reg file to input the username and serial. haven't got a clue, but why would you need to use that! winrar has totally converted me, i haven't installed winzip, winace, etc for years now.

add this to the comment for each shortcut: Shortcut=X, "PATHTOPROGRAM", "SUBMENU", "DESCRIPTION", "SHORTCUTNAME" where X can be: D=Desktop S=Start Menu P=Start Menu/Programs T=Startup or when you're creating the SFX archive, go under the Advanced tab, and press Add Shortcut, fill in the blanks and your set.

i think i cracked it i had these things enabled in the right-click menus: CyberScrub WhoLockMe rjhExtensions by removing these, it hasn't happened any more. dunno which one it was but they're not essential. thanks for you help MCT, but i didn't want to keep ending explorer.exe, it was happening with 90% of the folders/files that i went into.
