  1. Make sure you've configured your DNS server to allow all updates, not just secure updates. Since you do not have a domain, the "secure updates" setting will not work (and you'll see those errors).

This is how I've set it now, will this suffice?

  2. taurus-1.siol.net ---> 193.189.160.11

Is my ISP's DNS server. And my ISP's name is SIOL.

and also nslookup does this when typing it from a client computer:

But otherwise DNS resolving works. Just look at the cache:

btw. The server machine on which DNS SERVER service is running is a Win2k3 SP1 machine. Configured as a workgroup and not as a domain.

  3. If you are asking whether or not you can set up a DHCP server on a Windows 2000 Professional machine, yes. However, it will not be from Microsoft - you will have to use a 3rd party DHCP server product, such as Vicomsoft DHCP server or Incognito IP Commander.

Which of these to is more lighweight?

Are there any alternatives than these 2 programs? Since I would only need to connect 1additional computer to this one.

btw. I know I could set up a static ip for the client machine, but I want it to auto get IP

  4. A month old WinxP installation gives me some problems. Apperantly haven't nLited it well and also some the driver packs werent compatibale. Now I've just created a new nLited WInXP+Driverpacks+XPERO and would like to install this one and then just transfer all of my settings and programs from my previous WinXP installation.

    How could I accomplish this??

  5. I love Win2k. Especially my nLited which is installed on my NOTEBOOK!

I would add more RAM to that machine but all the memory slots are already full.

    KRAMY:

Regarding MUP, have always wondered, what is it anyway it just eats 10s of my boot time doing nothing?

And how do I do this:

I actually prefer Win2k, since with a few gpedit.msc tweaks you can have it load programs in the background while the MUP is initializing for 11 seconds.
  6. In a school classroom we have 12 PC w/ W98 FE installed.

I was thinking something along the lines of ALAVASOFT's ADWATCH or SPYBOT. What do U guys think:

the program would preferebly be freeware, and MUST BE LOW ON RESOURCES since the machines are quite old (PII 350MHZ)

And when running in background when it would find some spyware the program should automaticly block access in silent. SO students won't go all crazy like HEY, what is this?

    tanx in advance

  7. Do you have dmadmin.exe in system32 ? because one time for me, I have deleted this because I'm thinking about dmware but in fact it's an original name of logical disk management .. so check if it's present ...

    Goodbye.

ps: you can run sfc /scannow to check all system files too ...

    I have DMADMIN.EXE

    C:\Documents and Settings\Tom>sfc /scannow
Windows File Protection could not initiate a scan of protected system files.

The specific error code is 0x000006ba [The RPC server is unavailable.
    ].

It's probably cos WFP is disabled on my machine

edit: Tried this utility http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Windo...er/1106499902/1 and it says its enabled!!

edit2: SFC now works. I have disabled and then again enabled it and it started to work.

But it constantly asks me 4 a CD and then it says that the CD is not the right one. Although its 100% the same WXP CD I used for installation. And this WXP installation is less than a month old.

  8. No they are not.

    Look aT:

    08112005.WAV -->IS B4
    09022005.WAV

    But it should be reverse.

Since eleventh month(november) is after second month(february)

Didn't change the question just tried to make it clearer. I have a really hard time to explain U the nature of my problem. I hope the above example clears it a little

  9. This might be the time to enter the world of linux and build your own Gentoo DHCP server for free...

I know someone that said they were going to try it. If you want I can ask them for links to handbooks and stuff.

Personally I would but its for a friend of mine's mother. And she hardly knows anything about windows. Im sure she has never even heard about LINUX.

    The PC is:

    PII 350, 198RAM, 40GB HITACHI 7200 DEATHSTAR HDD, 2NICs

But works very slowly. Have no idea why since I removed as much services as possible and tweaked it but no matter what I do it's still slow. Perhaps I should install Win2k PRO on it with an NLITED WIN2k CD and not the native Win2k.

btw. How fast should WIN2k work on the above machine?

  10. How do I achieve the following:

    1. Check the NTFS permissions on the DCOM object itself

    2. If you can find the AppID for the CLSID listed in the event viewer, you should be able to find what application it is and try re-registering the .exe's in DCOM.

    7. Check the DCOM NTFS permissions specific to the application.

Tried 3-6 but doesn't help. I also spoted the same error on a friends machine.

  11. Try viewing by details and then click on the header for the date column.

Click on View in the explorer menu then Details.

As I already stated that the date stamp on this files is wrong. Since they are coppied from an USB drive the DATE STAMP says only the date when the files were transfered from USB to HDD.
