  1. Can you be a little more specific? What do you mean by refreshing passwords? Your domain controller should do this automaticlly if it is set up properly.

Don't know what U mean by domain controller since I have a workgroup.

To be more specific about my problem(was in a hurry the other day):

On a client machine named Mojca, I changed the Administrator account to Tom. And now when I want to connect to the client machine(Mojca) from the server, I get this:

    \\mojca

    I get access denied

But if I connect by its IP:

    \\192.168.2.2

I get connected without a problem

  2. I know what you mean, you want to know if it could be done. But, please tell us why you want to put yourself through hell reinventing the wheel?

I know it is possible thru the help of Winroute, which takes me no more than 5min to set up. But I want to know if it is possible in Windows 2k3 without the need for Winroute?

So I could determine which method is more appealing..

  3. because windows server 2003 is much much more stabil and can run for day or even week with out you have to restart your or close your pc this is not possible with my WindowsXP Home it is the best windows in my opnion i have now run 2k3 for a week or 2 and i allready can see that is maybe 100 times more stabil when WindowsXP Home but i guess maybe run windowsXP Pro i have never try i think i will buy the windows server 2003 a friend of mine is a MS partner he can sale it to me for around 230-235 USD but it is the Windows Server 2003 Small Business version but i don`t see where is much to gain for me to buy the Enterprise version but he was not 100% sure what version it was.

Not TRUE. The only reason U notice such big difference of stability is because your WinXP aren't properly set up.

  4. @hammermtl:
this looks really interesting to me and sorry if this is a noob question but what is the benifit of running the server as a workstation?

I'm not intending to start a flame war going on here but....

I dont see any benefit - as I've said in another topic(s), it may well be stable, but its designed as a OS that serves other machines - thus the reason behind its name lol

I find it very unlikely that people have actually gone out and bought 2003 over XP somehow - sorry if you have but even the OEM costs double/triple the OEM of XP Pro so I just find it unlikely.... unless you're loaded of course ;)

And regarding stablility, MS have worked hard in recent years fine tuning XP, as they did with other OS' (admittedly, not as well) and if treated right, then XP will be as stable as you can get really.

The only benefit would be certain server tasks, but then, why try and turn it into a desktop OS.

It hasnt made any sense to me but there we go hehe

Only my two cents - no flaming me please.

    Regards,

    Nath

Very true. And as U might have guessed already I haven't purchase it. I'm just testing it on my test machine to see how it acts. For my primary server I still use Win2k and wouldn't be trading it for no other OS if M$ wouldn't be planing of canceling support for it.

  5. Well I think if he would have a pirated version of Windows it should be fairly simple to find the update he needs from a 3rd party site, would it not?

    Agreed!!!

Personal reason just include that I don't feel comfortable calling such organization for help. I prefer asking U about it.

    It's silly, but that's me

btw. Hypothetical: If I had a pirated version wouldn't it be a lot easier to just call them and ask for support?

  6. My problem is with the SOUND DRIVER. When I install the latest driver for my Hercules Fortisimo II, windows will just restart, and keep restarting untill I uninstall the driver from my sistem in safe mode, cos when in normal mode it will instantly restart when the STARTUP sound is played.

    Help me!

    Hello BigDaddy !

You are in the wrong forum try this link : http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showforum=34

But i think you shut contact the vendor of your sound card or the shop where you purchase your sound card or your pc vendor ?

    Good Luck

    The-Matrix

Im in the proper FORUM since this is where we discus Win2k3

  7. Wait, Can you tell me why you do not want to use switches. In the situation you are describing, it would much much more efficient to do so. You don't have to grab a $1,000.00 switch, just run to Best Buy and pick up a five-port for $29.99. It would certainly be cheaper than like 5 NIC Cards.

As I mentioned earlier I already have the same type of network set up.

    ps. I got those NICs4free

  8. Just changed the username of one of my client machine but the machine name remains the same. Now the SERVER machine won't login to the client machine since it is still using the old Username...

    How can I refreshen it?

    edit:there were some misleading information

  9. Long story shot, no it's not posible, and I just wonder how did you made it under win2k because there will be an error as soon as you use same network on 2 or more different NICs

I see you're not too familiar about networks so U might not even know if it is possible.

Anyway, U connect different networks with different IP ranges(subnets)

    ex.

    Network 1: 10.0.0.1-10.0.0.255

    Network 2: 10.0.1.1-10.0.1.255

    Network 3: 10.0.2.1-10.0.2.255

Network 4: In my case ADSL, is where U also set DNS for Internet sharing to work on CLIENT computers.

I believe U get the picture.

The problem is connecting all these networks together, so they all have Filesharing and Internet sharing. And here comes Winroute, which does precisely that.

I've read on multiple sites that an option BRIDGE CONNECTION is in effect for this kind of network but I'm not sure if that is true...

So if any1 have any else ideas please let me know.
