1. ofcourse! How could I forget. Its the same catch that LINUXs AT command has with GUI programs. ps. Does Windows AT command has the 'at +5min'? So U don't have to type 15:35 if the clock is now 15:30
2. How do I find if my nic is 802.1p compliant? And also what happens when the client machine has LINUX?
3. I set the following: at 12:59 "C:\Program Files\eMule\emule.exe" But EMULE doesn't start at the specified time. And also theres no log entry in EVENT VIEWER! And yes the TASK SCHEDULER service is enabled and active.
4. Read those links and also some references to those links on the MS page but I'm still no closer to settings this up. All I have achieved thus far was the installation of QoS on the W2k3 server. I thought that such a thing should be as simple as the following example: In the server there are 2NIC cards NIC1->connects to ADSL NIC2->connects to SWITCH onto which 4client PCs are connected. Every demand that comes from NIC2 should bi given the highest prirority thus lowering the bandwith that BITTORENT is currently using so the other client PCs wouldn't notice the slowdowns whilst surfing or DL something...
5. tanx will get started as soon as I finish setting up the newly 'compiled' Gentoo linux.
6. At home am running a server Win2k3! And on it I run eMULE, BITTORENT 24/7! This server is also responsible for DHCP,DNS,ICS,Firewall,FileSharing for 4 client computers. I will give an example of what I would like to achieve: Since the internet connection is only 1024/256 I would like a way that even if BITTORENT is running at 100KB DL, Win2k3 would automaticly reduce its DOWNLOAD to 20KBs if any of the other 4client PCs would require 80KBs! I hope I made some sense with this example. Is it possible, perhaps the QOS could help?
7. But preSP2 WinXP or any Win2k or Win2k3 SERVER dont have this issue with blank passwords! Apperantly MS had to protect its consumer windows
8. U just gave me the idea! Since I have a passwordless login WinXP SP2 automaticly denies all access to drives. And thus I had to change GPEDIT.MSC LIMIT LOCAL ACCOUNT USE OF BLANK PASSWORDS TO CONSOLE ONLY to FALSE and now it works
9. I ADMIN the LAN for my famil:) And its only 3computers + Win2k3 server Here's a screenie of my settings:
10. When trying to access the computer WinXP SP2 called TOMI from another computer in our LAN I get the following error: And this is how the share on the computer called TOMI is set up: What am I doing wrong, since I've done this thousands of time and it always worked. What is wrong now?
11. Aha so DEP has nothing to do with what I want to achieve! Well could some1 plis give me the cracked SFC_OS.DLL The only one I found on this forum was the one to put in i386(SFC_OS.DL_) But I need the one to be put into an existing WINXP SP2 installation. ps. I already tried hacking SFC_OS.DLL with a HEX editor but got nowhere! Since with the HEX EDITOR I just can't find the right key as per this guide: http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_...ection-SP2.html
12.
Call me Crazy...'cause i am...However, one of your very kind msdn pros gave information some time ago here about this and, the fix is much simpler than all this other stuff you are trying to do> please inspect the "boot.ini" file below: [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /NOEXECUTE=ALWAYSOFF /fastdetect Additionally, you can elevate install rights using gpedit.msc.... THis is all freeware from Microsoft... Einstein once said that...'everything should be made as simple as possible--not simpler...' Works for me...
Changed my BOOT.INI hope WFP will now be disabled
13. tanx, worked great! But how the hell did this permission change? Since all I did was left computer running which went then to standby and when I returned about an hour latter all of the restrictions came into place.
14. I did a clean install of WinXP PRO 3hours ago! And then on it I installed drivers and programs! Then went out for about an hour! And when I got back and moved the mouse so the comp came out of standby I lost all the priviligies of user TOM! This is what I get when I press WIN+R: And my new start menu, which wont even allow me to reboot the computer: And the useraccount settings! From which U can see am still a member of the ADMINISTRATOR group: I tried restarting the computer, logging in as ADMINISTRATOR and change TOM's group to POWER USERS. But the user TOM still has no priviligies. ps. I also checked the system with ANTIVIRUS and ADAWARE both came out negative!
15. Just did a fresh install of windows! BUt the problem is that its SYSTEM DRIVE's letter is H: But I want it to be C: So I tried changing it but this is the error I get: ps. the rest partitions are use by LINUX!
16. ATM our classroom consists of 8 PCs. They all have WXP installed and the QUEST account used for students to login. But even at QUEST account users are still able to FUBAR with WinXP! They are allowed to install software and thus bring in lots of viruses... This is what I would like to achieve. FIrst I would set up the system the way I want to using the ADMINISTRATOR account! And then create an account which would prohibit users installing software, changing the desktop background or start menu... How would I go about securing windows? ps. ATM am testing this at home thru VMWARE. So any reccomendations would be great
17. what about contacting M$? Shouldnt they give him a new Win2k for free or for a very very small price(5€) if he has a valid key??
18. if U got a valid key, why not just DL of torrents?
19. what about platform independat aMSN? I use it on both on my linux and Windows
20. This I've noticed on about 12school computers and also 3computers that I've installed for friends. When its set to AUTOMATIC UPDATEs than when the persons shuts down the computer the updates start installing. But they never finish installing. I've left the PC for 8 hours and it was still doing update 4/11(just an example) So for now only manuall installation of UPDATES is possible:( How to fix this bug?
21. Its been over 4months now since my last post, still hoping for a solution since in SAFE MODE it works.
22. What, doing a favour for my fathers friends is then in violation of nLite license?? On my personal computer am not violating any M$ license since I use LINUX. But what is installed on my father or mother or on friends computers I really don't give a rats a+s+s whether they are using warez or not. Cos am kind of tired fn lying on forums such as this where everybody says they have original copies of everything they have but the truth is that a lot of them are just saying so and infact have WAREZ, so that members such as ALANOL(no offense) wouldn't start quoting license agreement and s***... ps. dont get me wrong, I love this forums, its the best ones I found for just about every M$ prob. I had!!!
23. @ALANOL I dissagree! Since I didnt make any profit. As far as I know computers *still* aren't free. So that is why he gave me money since he knows that I will get him much *better* machine for the same money as if he would go to a local computer store. No, I haven't! Because he's fine with a pirated copy and so am I! FYI pliz dont start flamming me about using PIRATED windows because on my personal machine am only using UBUNTU LINUX and for my writting needs OpenOffice.Org is more than ADEQUETE! Again my mistake wasnt clear enough, by bells and whistles I meant to optimize them for optimal performance remove the unneeded parts, take care of security(FW,NOD32 AV,ADAWARE) and install the programs he requested.
24. to my surprise no! I didnt work with it
25. @ANONYMUS THANK U!!! Now he can come for his machine
