  1. Most AVs are crap. I've had a bunch of them marking a ZIP file as dangerous, but not any of the individual files from the ZIP.
  2. Just a heads-up: in the last few days I've had quite a few users with black screen at logon, due to Explorer crashing in StartIsBack64.dll. They all had old versions of SiB+ (pre-1.7.0) installed, upgrading to the latest solved the problem.
  3. bphlpt: it's pretty obvious what's wrong with the image - Start Menu appears partially off-screen.
  4. When you enter the serial number, there's 3 buttons in the dialog: "Activate via web browser", "Activate" and "Cancel"
  5. There's an "Activate via web browser" option, which presumably allows you to generate the activation code on a different computer.
  6. I'm getting "Failed to set data for ''" when trying to install StartIsBackPlus on a new Windows install. The same thing happens both with latest stable, and with 1.6 beta 0. The directory in Program Files (x86) is created, and files are copied to it, but that's all that happens.
  7. Only the first one is the same as in Windows Update settings.
  8. Slovenian strings for updates are kinda weird in 1.6 beta 0 - they roughly translate to "Never check for updates (not recommended)", "Notice of installation of new updates" and "You being noticed about downloading and installing new updates". I'm not sure where you're pulling these from, but other than the first one, they aren't meant to be used in this context.
  9. I'm logging in to an existing session. Windows 8.1 to Windows 8.1 (I'm using RoyalTS, but the same problem happened with vanilla RDP). I tried running startisbackcfg and pressing OK, but that hasn't helped. I haven't tried any other things, because the sessions I'm logging in to is the only one that matters to me. I'm running a high contrast theme, SiB is set to Aero8ByDesign (which is the only theme that changes the user picture frame in high-contrast theme). No, there's nothing in Event Viewer (and taskbar itself works fine, there's just no Start Button, and no response to either clicking on the lower-left, nor to pressing the Windows key on keyboard).
  10. My start button still disappears in 1.5 final when I connect to the session remotely, and I have to restart Explorer before it reappears.
  11. Lately, when I connect to my session with Remote Desktop, SiB+ disappears. Taskbar still works, but there's no Start button, and pressing the Windows key on keyboard doesn't do anything either.
  12. The price increase was announced ahead of time. Gave me enough time to buy another pack for my personal use.
  13. Instead of starting regedit, you can run directly this: reg delete HKCR\CLSID\{61625667-893E-4707-B925-A82B528C00B8}\TreatAsor reg delete HKCR\CLSID\{c71c41f1-ddad-42dc-a8fc-f5bfc61df957}\TreatAs
  14. Then put a warning that TrendMicro sucks on the download page - that usually works much better than anything else.
  15. I'm not sure if you noticed, but TrendMicro insists that StartIsBack+ download URL is malicious (check here). Not the file itself, nor the site, just the download URL. I suggest you tell them to reclassify the URL, and put a warning (that TM is broken and should be disabled to download the file) on the download page - in my experience, that's the fastest way to get AV companies to actually do something about false positives.
  16. I don't do anything special. I've got UAC set to lowest level (elevate automatically without prompt) on my workstation (but it's still enabled).
  17. Got An Exception of type EJwsclPrivilegeException was raised. (Data was given by programmer and can vary from actual source.) Source method....: JwEnablePrivilege Source class.....: (global) Source file......: JwsclToken.pas Source line......: 0 Message : Privilege SeTakeOwnershipPrivilege is not available. during install on my Windows 8.1 box. Should the opacity sliders be disabled in High Contrast mode?
  18. Turned out I just had to run the setup through Control Panel > Install Application on Remote Desktop Server.
  19. When I try to update StartIsBack+ on one of my Server 2012 R2s, I get the message "This version of StartIsBack is not intended for this Windows version." (it updated fine on the other server).
  20. All users (upgrade), and it happened at the end of install (which seems to have succeeded).
