I am not sure, but either I also do not have File Sharing in Home basic or I would remove it as well. Can not check this at the moment, but I am also pretty sure File Sharing is not on services tweak-page (or it is there gereyed out).

I got an error with winmm.dll on first run with the WIM filter pop-up. I killed vlite, installed WIM filter manually and all went well. 1 point: Server is not a service part of Home Basic, but shows on the Services tweak page.

Grrr, re-installed yesterday. Oh well to show my appreciation lets try 1.1.6 on for size and see how it fits my needs ;-). Grateful as ever!
-
Hi nuhi, nice work. Did you see my last remark under 1.1.6 beta 2? I was able to integrate the hotfix, which I was not able to do in the past. Still why would I need it if I have removed Windows Mail?
-
As also was the case with previous versions of vLite, now also "Update for Windows Mail Junk E-mail Filter for x64-based Systems [April 2008] (KB905866)" is shown, even though I removed Windows mail.

I read through this a bit and appreciate the discussion for the use of vLite. I like to have things tidy, throw everything out that I do not use. Like keeping the basement clean, not as much fun as fishing, but stil it needs to be done every now and then. However if vLite actually contributes to a faster, let alone more stable system, I do not think so. I personally think that putting services to manual that you do not use (or disabling them if they keep on starting), will give the most benefit and vLite is just a step further and also reducing disc usage.

I have found no issues with wireless networking when keeping "WLAN Support" and removing "Network and Sharing Center". In my opinion it is not a real dependency, however it might be on a technical level (and functional where it concerns something I do not use/miss).

According to several sources SP1 is just a version bump of SP1 RC Refresh 2, which works fine for me for a few weeks now.
-
Almost correct, but a clarification on point 3: this should be done from another Vista installation (as should running imagex to create the install.wim).
-
As far as I know with the new WAIK (which is in beta) allowed slipstreaming of new types of hotfixes/updates. Since SP1 also has a new type of cabinet files, maybe it can be slipstreamed by this method as in the WAIK when it is released?

Installation from HD should not be a problem. I always install my vLite'd Windows as a test to a secondary partition. If all is well I boot from that partition, whipe all non-essential files (except Boot directory)from the primary (using takeown and cacls to gain proper access) and in the same run I install the same vLite'd Windows to the primary partition. If something should go wrong, then I can still boot into Windows.

I always have used Firefox (3.0b2 now) with IEtab and IE removed with vLite: no problem. Howeever I always set programaccess for standardprograms to Mozilla Firefox from within the control panel.

It works properly with all those kept: I tested with Network and Sharing Center kept and that worked for my WLAN and just now with it even removed it still works. I am going to disable the compatibility option and will not use it anymore, something is really skrewed with it.
-
While I was making an export of my preset, I again noticed the wrong bloody compatibility option was selected (I selected Aero Glass it changed to File and printer sharing (server)). I already reported this to nuhi, but now some additional stuff comes to mind: The compatibility option was changed and the options did not appear, however the components that were "protected"/not shown were in fact removed. I kept overlooking settings, that were not shown that I did select for removal in the past: TCP/IP NetBios Helper Network and Sharing Center Network List Service Network Location Awareness I am going to try with the Network and Sharing center kept, most likely that it work then.
-
Well from the manufacturer I have not such tool (TP-Link) and the WLAN configuration service is what I could be missing, but by which component is it removed. I can right click on the Wireless card in Network configuration and select a set-up and then do the set-up as explained in my 1st post, but this does not seem like the WLAN configuration service to me.
-
I bought a WLAN PCI card 2 days ago and been trying to create a new vLite'd Windows x64 SP1 version to get it to work properly. Either it was too late yesterday or too early today, because I can not seem to find the proper components to keep. I already unchecked WLAN support in vLite, but this does not allow me to properly manually configure it for my Router: I can make the appropriate set-up (manual set-up, enter SID and encryption type, etc.), however I can not find this set-up afterwards and it appears as not connected under my Network Connections. I do not actually need the screen where I can see which Wireless networks are available and from which I can check my manually entered preferred Wireless networks, but it would be helpful and maybe even necessary? Do I need the "Network Center" or "WLAN Zero Configuration" or "Network Location Awareness" any other component additionally kept?

On the 1st day of Christmass, I tested vLite 1.1 RC... 1 clearification in compatibility, 1 minor bug, and a happy u-u-serrrrrr When I select Windows Color System for removal and keep Windows Image Viewer, then that last 1 indeed does not work. Furthermore after I run vLite again and confirm the warning to uncheck Windows Color System, then I notice that Aero Glass is unchecked in Compatibility and instead "Fax, Printer,..." is checked. The tool vsp1cln_x64.exe does work wonders in cleaning up the redundant files left after installing SP1 in Sysrep mode. I am not sure if a direct link is allowed, but when I use google then the tool is shown in the first link.

Indeed Dino, you did a great job and given quite a few fans their Christmas present. You forgot to mention in the changelog that instalation issues were resolved for Vista SP1 RC (Dutch only?). (for those thinking of integration of SP1: SP1 can not be integrated -yet-, it was installed and a new image created, which was vLite'd. See discussion in another thread)
-
Nice work, disabling is also possible without registry editor. On the Command-prompt type: sc config luafv start= disabled
-
There should be a WAIK for Vista SP1 I saw, with this the cabs in SP1 you might be able to integrate these. Not sure what you use nuhi. Probably something from the WAIK or not?
-
I remembered a different error in my latest test with vLite: 0x80070057. I will do some more research, but I thought it worked well in the past.

Hello, Just try if any of you guys have issues with this: When I try copying a file from the mounted DVD (in my case the MPG-file from an SVCD) I get an errormessage: "incorrect/invalid MS-DOS-function". I have sufficient disc space. Anyone?
-
Hi nuhi, any progress on this or anything I can help out with on this issue?
-
I also noticed this, but after as hort investigation (without success) I payed no further attention to it since I primarily use Firefox.
-
With the earlier settings posted I still get the errormessages. First around 4 times the 1st error, then about 18 times quickly in a row the 2nd error. Rough translation: Pkgmgr.exe - Invalid installation copy <file> is not a windows file or contains an error. Try to install the program again...
