Nokia, Open Office, WLM all require VC80 files. If I restart and try a 2nd time, then they do install. Also I keep Windows Help so that I can remove IE8 from Windows features. Windows Serahc and Gadgets can not be removed completely. I am going to try again with keeping Windows Search and Windows Sidebar and Gadgets. Also will try to remove Game Explorer, Windows Event Log and MDAC.

Is this topic still discussing Windows 7 Beta?
-
I think there is a better tool to clean Winsxs, but I have not yet dared trying it :WinsxsLite (requires you manually download some additional libraries). I think there is some stuff on this in the Windows 7 folder. On the latest 7127 build I heard some rumours about "debugging-stuff" in package, which causes the OS to be slower? Will check this myself in the Windows 7 forum.

I tried comparing the install.wim files, but I think easier is to perform a re-install. I would also rather know which files I need to keep as well. I want to remove IE, but if I need to keep 180MB for Help to be able to remove it, then I am not too sure. Would be nice if it were just a few files that need to be protected.

Hey, do you know whitch component is causing Windows features failing to be disabled? And shouldnt you had kept Error Reporting due to missinng wer.dll warning during the installation ? Hi, No I did not figure out which component it was. I thlought vLite for Vista, but maybe it was nLite. I googled a lot without success. I have protected wer.dll and werconcpl.dll(?; check my preset) and that is why I could remove Error Reporting. However Error Reporting is what causes Windows features to not write to the errorlog what goes wrong see windows\panther\CBS.log: 2009-05-14 19:01:57, Info CBS Failed to submit the Windows Error Report. [hrESULT = 0x80070002 - ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND] ... However I am fine currently with my installation, I will leave that challenge for the next install or for somebody else

Now everything installed, still only 5.11 GB in use. Some non-blocking issues, no biggies: Snipping tool needs protect on: windows\system32\Magnification.dll & windows\system32\msdrm.dll (can be re-added manually later post-install) Gadgets appears in the desktop right click menu, but does not work (I thought I removed it as I also did not with the Vista Sidebar) Nokia PC suite will not install (does not support the platform it say upon installation) Windows features can not be disabled (IE amongst others would be nice to remove) I had some issues with installations resulting in errors related to VC80 (Windows Live Messenger), VC90 (Open Office 3.0) The last was strangely resolved: I downloaded .NET 3.5 SP1 and ran it (no messages what so ever) and after this it seemed to work. Not sure if this was the solution, but it works now. And the best part: I do not know weither it is the vLite'd Windows 7, my positive attitude or reality, but Windows 7 feels a lot snappier than Vista.

IE can removed from the windows feutures in the control panel, however that does not work. Most likely the same reasn with Vista that you need to keep a specific component. Not sure which it is (at work), but I think vLite point it out, that the component will break this. IE and Windows Firewall are quite big components, non the less I only use 4.6GB (all drivers installed). Was previously checking actual file usage (incorrect with links) with page-/hibernate-file included.

Ok, for me I think I can not slim it down any further than the attached preset. I will try IE seperately and maybe Windows firewall as well. However I think, this is the best I can slim it down to: 1.51GB install.wim, 7.6GB installed. I do need to protect some files, because I remove IPsec (error-emssage at installation) and Windows Error Reporting (2 files, reported in 1 of the posts above; not tested by me) and get 5 warnings about dependancies.
-
For me Internet Explorer is a no go: causes installation to fail. File and Printer Sharing, IIS, Windows Connect Now, Windows Firewall are also suspicious as well as some other components from the Services section (Computer Browser?). Going for install nr. 20 or so... [edit] Ok, no go for me are: IE (installation error) Windows Firewall (installation error) ICS (installation error) IPSec (installation error and winipsec.dll error) QoS (No possiblity to add a WLAN manually) Welcome Center (keeps appearing in vLite after removal) [/edit]

With System components removed, I also have no issues with installing, but I do have issues with Multimedia, network or services. If I remove the items from one of these (except those with dependencies from a not removed component-group) on my working installation, then the installation fails. I can understand people are getting pretty annoyed by this. Then again, why are we doing this :-)

I have been keeping track of this topic for a few days and tried some installations for myself (not much success). From the attached preset it works if I keep Multimedia, Network, Services and System as well as the components with dependancies: Disc Clean-up and DRM. When I remove Multimedia-components, it fails during installation. I am now going to check with the System-components removed. ;# Accessories # Accessibility Disk Cleanup Games-Inbox Games Games-Premium Inbox Games Mobility Center Paint Speech Support System Information Welcome Center Windows Sidebar and Gadgets Wordpad ;# Drivers # Diva Server Modems Printers-Generic printer QLogic Fibre Channel Adapter Scanners Storage controllers-Adaptec Storage controllers-Elxstor Storage controllers-IBM ServeRAID Storage controllers-ICP vortex Storage controllers-Intel (Matrix) Storage controllers-nVidia Storage controllers-SiS Storage controllers-Via TV Tuners-ADS Technologies TV Tuners-ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Issue has re-occured in latest 1.2 release with additional updates and KB955020. Really weird as it seems inconsistent, was solved now it is not anymore. Any chance we can get to the bottom of this as it is quite frustrating when all updates go fine for an hour or so and then this 1 screws things up.
-
I also had similar issues since 1.2 Final (or some update to Avast that I am not aware of). Disabling services and start-up items do not help. Only complete uninstall.
-
Also am getting the message "The update could not be installed because at least one Windows component required by Windows Mobile Device Center is missing". Will try with scanner support, but I do not want to keep wmp and from what I understand it is not an issue anymore (wmp may be removed).
-
No one else has had this error? InvalidArgument=Value of -1 is not valid for index. Parametername=index.
-
Strange enough then that it installed through Windows Update, so what now...
-
Good point, forgot to mention I get it right after clicking apply.
-
Both from a vLite'd Windows Vist x64 as a clean 1 I get an .NET error, see the attachment. HB.ini
-
My question above still stands, can you let me know here or by PM nuhi. I can understand it has low priority for you, but I am still curious and would like to know the cause.
-
Is there a way that we can find out why update 955020 is failing? I never had issues before with integration only with this (large 64MB) update.
-
Tried vLite under a clean installation and I still get the message. Only thing I did was remove the other Vista versions (beside Home Basic) from the Dutch SP1 image I downloaded from the Internet (was a "real" image not 1 run by the Winbeta method).
-
Windows6.0-KB955020-x64.msu (64MB) also gives an error during integration.

Hello, I use Firefox 3.0 under Vista x64 with all updates and(amongst many other things) Internet Explorer removed and HTML-engive kept by use of vLite. I tried using the Microsoft Update-catalogue website within Firefox 3.0 and it required IE, because of ActiveX. So I switch to the IE-engine by use of the IEtab plugin. After installation of the ActiveX-bject I can select downloads, but when I need to select the target folder, I am unable to select the button behind the entryfield. I can perform the same action under Windows XP Pro SP3, Firefox 3.0 without a hitch.

I do not want to create a new topic, but I also have some issue with integration of hotfixes: Windows6.0-KB955020-x64.cab (64MB) gives an error during integration. msxml4-KB941833-enu.exe - can not be integrated? Windows-kb890830-v2.0.exe - can not be integrated? Windows6.0-KB905866-v22-x64.cab - can be integrated, but when Windows Mail is removed new versions appear in WU, but do not install(as for all other versions) Windows6.0-KB952709-x64 - integrates fine for me (Home Basi X64 NL SP1)
