Removed winsxs I presume. Nice to see that it's possible to go that low, can't wait for Ultimate to be that configurable. Server has a big flaw that it installs features which are multiple components at once.
-
Do not forget that Vista ISO contains Boot.wim, which is WinPE for setup and it just gets loaded during install. When you measure Vista size on the media just look at the install.wim file to be more fair in comparison to XP. But still it's too big for my taste, after install I still find myself to disable services, and that is simply silly. One step at the time, last two versions have a lot of new removals, it needs to settle.

Yes that winsxs description is old when Hotfix and SP1 backups weren't taken into account so the image can get smaller. It removes all, except hotfixes and backups, heh totally inverse from what you would like. It will probably be done. SP1 double files for sure, and that won't break anything (not that we will need that option once MS releases SP1 ISO), but hotfixes that's another question, we'll see.

creator007 and Tomorrow, read the forum rules.

Hanschke, you're talking about Compatibility options, click that button on the bottom of the components page and uncheck protections. No need for extreme switch to unhide those.
-
I just got a note that it could be UAC, please confirm.
-
Nope, you shouldn't need anything, it simply installs for me. You should consider reporting that to them, could be a bug on their part. Works for me and Dynaletik so maybe it's time to stop considering vLite as the issue.
-
shilyro, what is the error reported, did it integrate without prompting error and did you select Japanese in the Unattended-Regional-GUI ? Alex, 1. ok, just be sure not to select UAC even if Component Page isn't selected 2. ok I don't see dreamscene integrated in your preset, just Hold'Em. Anyway only thing that Dreamscene needs is the WMP Codecs...and of course it can be due to the Extreme removal, let me know if you confirm.

Yeah someone already posted the link to that folder but didn't see the news on Softpedia, thx. In that news post they don't even link to vlite hp (any more?) just mentioned it like it's trivial, important thing is someone used it, that's the hard part, blah.

Network Location Awareness and Network List services.

That is not normal so it was either you removed components then slipstreamed service pack or the XP SP2 you have is not in the original, unedit form. Also if you do enter some files in the Components - Advanced - Remove box, try without any. And be sure not to remove Security Center in SP3, there is some issue with that.

Downloaded it v1.6.4, installed, runned, seems ok. x64 sp1, all removed except HTML engine, Media Scheduler, Superfetch and Aero. But I did install all my usual programs so maybe some of them installed the runtime, you do know you need VB6 runtime as it says on that site?
-
Interesting, thx for the info.

It is. But there is one catch. When you integrate hotfixes vLite detects which parts of winsxs are needed for it not to fail and it protects them. So your winsxs might go from 1GB to 300 or 400MB, depending on the integrations. In 64bit where all that is double, especially if SP1 installed, the difference is much bigger. Also more you remove the lesser sxs becomes so in time it will be totally unnecessary to clean it, too much problems for little gain. I don't mind stuff just staying there if they are not running. Unless it's the x64sp1 where that folder is too big. Or you buy a new expensive small SSD hard drive.

thedexmonster, computer name in nLite doesn't allow these characters: []\/:;|=+?<> Care to explain your comment then? Yes it doesn't detect already integrated, never needed that, everyone knows it's a disaster to edit the distribution multiple times because integrated things, then removed, influence each other and in the next session some files are not there and so on, best is to do all at once, that's why you have the preset for easy modification. For example you can then remove old Hotfixes, replace new Drivers, and do it fresh. So because you forget to press Save As - CustomName you blame me? It is just you. Last Session is there if you forget so you can check the date and rename it. Arie, so point and click isn't allowing you to feel like a hacker, too easy? Heh I know the type, the manual copying and you can see the scripts makes you feel in control. Illusion would be the word. For me the control is more features at the tip of the finger, centralized, easily modified, why waste time.

Ok great, that's the second time someone warned me about that, it's time to make a detection. Thanks.
-
Can you recall what exactly so that I can add detection and warning, thx.
-
Be sure to download proper language SP http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en Meaning if your XP SP2 is Deutsch then select that SP3 version for download, if it is English then download English and so on. Doesn't matter what you choose in nLite.
-
It is usually a bug with the iso engine so if you have added any extra folders try removing them. In the root there should be only: boot efi sources and some files. Or some of the folders or files is unaccessible.
-
Yes, you basically overwrite the install.wim with the new one.
-
Properties on vLite shortcut and make it look something like this: "C:\Program Files\vLite\vLite.exe" -extreme But I don't recommend it. Read the descriptions for the issues I know about when removing Component Cache. And all that said I do remove it.

bronz001, I have tried now Arabic MUI on Ultimate x64 and it integrated OK. Make sure to use original, clean, not edited Vista DVD or ISO. Also make sure to use 32bit MUI on 32bit Vista and 64 for 64.

With sxs removed (-extreme switch to show it), the difference is not big, min ISO 730MB (because sxs is mainly duplicate files, already written only once in the image). Why bother with CDR anyway? Either use DVDRW or USB stick, there is a guide how to use USB.
