  1. You can download it for free from Microsoft. I tried it, didn't like it. Had to go back to normal Windows XP, because some of my drivers didn't work, which I didn't really like.
  2. Tried that, still didn't work. In fact, it screwed up the video properties instead, can't fix it. Don't worry, I tried that before I read your post, so I'm not blaming you. I know 2003 is built for networking and business uses only, not for gaming. Why didn't ATI even bother releasing an official driver for 2003 anyway? If they did it for NT, why not this one? It was able to run games though when I tried it, some couldn't run it because it needed a newer driver.
  3. When I tried to install the Windows XP driver under Windows 2003, it says it was missing some exe file. (Presumely some system file which only exists in XP/2000) And then the program automatically exits. Tried the Windows XP 64 bit driver. Though it did install, when I restarted the OS, my desktop graphics were lagging, and the Catalyst Control Center says the driver does not support this version of Windows. Don't know, but I'm kinda stuck. Anyway, thanks for trying to help me. Its not much of a big deal anyway. EDIT: Not a missing inf file, a missing file called Trunks.exe, I think.
  4. Yes, I did a forum search, it says you can use Windows XP drivers for W2K3, I tried it, didn't work. My video card is an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro. Is there any available drivers for W2K3?
  5. Firefox and Internet Explorer both have their faults. For instance, we all know that Internet Explorer is so what "insecure", and has bugs in it. With Firefox, some of my pages don't even display properly, if it has frames, but with IE6, it does. And some pages containing videos don't even load with Firefox, which I think is gay, though I did download an extension and it still doesn't work. Currently I'm using Firefox. I'm sick of IE6 right now and I hope IE7 is a big improvement.
  6. When I installed it on my computer it did load faster, but I thought the performance was the same. It was alright, though some of my dsktop graphics looked a bit different, must have been my video card driver, and some of my drivers didn't function to properly. So I re-formatted my computer again and installed normal Windows XP SP2.
  7. I have a Athlon 3000 64 bit processor, fast enough to run Windows XP And I have 1 gig of RAM. Windows XP runs fine, except I hate the fact that stupid bug is still there. I can't find any solution to it whatsoever, I ask my friends, and they have no problems with it, except me. And my computer is quite new too.
  8. I did a full installation with SP2 slipstreamed with it, the problem is still persisting. In fact, all the clean full installations I performed, that bug is still there. I already defragged my drives. Still like that. Guess I'm going to have to call Microsoft then.
  9. Hi, I've googled this on the net and I found no topic whatsoever on my problem. I've also tried this forum but no luck. This bug was introduced in SP1 and it still remains in SP2. Well, most times I either close an application or a window, I can't click on anything for at least 2 seconds. I tend to find this really annoying, is there a way for me to fix it? Thank you for taking your time to read this topic. Please NOW in Microsoft Windows XP section, use [TAGS] in your topic's title. See rules. --Sonic
  10. Wasn't too impressed. Didn't like it how they changed the toolbar. Looks too complicated. The interface.... well, looks kinda cheesy. I prefer the previous versions of Office.
  11. Thanks. I already set Firefox as my default browser, still no avail. That Autohotkey program looks a bit complicated. Guess I've have to figure out how to use it.
  12. Hi everybody, I have a keyboard with internet shortcut keys. The problem is I'm using FireFox and the buttons do not respond to FireFox, its only compatible with Internet Explorer. Is there a plugin or an addon to make these buttons work for FireFox? I've been googling it and I haven't found anything. Thanks.
  13. I use Firefox. I never liked Netscape. Internet Explorer is alright, I got used to using it, but it has its bad stuff.
  14. I like Windows 98 because it can run older applications. And it loads much faster than Windows XP. But I still like XP better. At least Windows 98 is better than 95 and crappy ME. If this was the 9x vs the NT kernel, I prefer the NT kernel. It has more options and advantages to choose from.
  15. Well I've never used it, but by looking at the screenshots, I must say I'm not too impressed by the layout. Why didn't they put the toolbar at the top of the window? Didn't I hear that IE7 is going to be compatible with Windows XP and Vista only? What about the older versions of Windows?
  16. steam is great - for valve. it bypasses the middleman and enables direct sales which = higher profits. i honestly commend them on their insight. however, for may end-users, steam is nothing more than a big fat PITA. i'm one of them. after years of being actively involved in the HL community, providing artwork, scripts, running a server, etc., i finally just gave it up and i gave it up for no other reason than steam[ing-pile-of-s**t]. having to be on-line at least once in order to enable off-line mode - ??? having to be on-line in order to launch the SDK - a joke steam server is down - really? what else is new? friends is down - again? (or should that be "still?") having to run an app in the background (steam.exe) in order to play a game that doesn't need it to run - silly ads, displayed through the steam UI - for a game i PAID FOR??? there's over a 1/4 million posts in just ONE topic on the steam forums, many dealing with steam issues. What really ticks me off about this crappy Steam program is, that you need to be online to launch their products. Now that is lame. Another thing I hate about it is the constant updates. One time it updated my CS Source game and it end up corrupting the files, making the game unplayable. I was so p***ed off at that. Yeah, you got that right. Steam(ing pile of s**t) alright. Its buggy, its lame, and its a waste of time. I just want to play the game. Have those idiots at Valve ever heard of just install and play? I'm never going to support or purchase products from Valve ever again unless they fix this Steam crap they have implemented. I feel sorry for the people who are using dial up internet or have no internet just to play HL2 or CounterStrike Source offline.
  17. Also, if you're planning to play this game online, its best if you have a fast DSL/Cable connection. Steam needs to identify your copy, and all that constant updating.... it takes a while even on cable connection, and worst yet on dialup. Even if you want to play an offline LAN game, you still need an active connection. (For vertifying reasons) Valve really screwed it up this time thanks to Steam.
  18. I went to a website that identifies bios beeps. Its most likely that I need to replace my motherboard = That means getting a new PC box. My old PC box is quite ancient. Thanks for the information, dirtwarrior. I appreciate it.
  19. Thanks for trying to help. I haven't really identified the problem yet, but I'm suspecting it may be the power supply case that needs to be replaced. My hard drive isn't too old, its about a year since I've purchased it. Well, my old PC is back in the year 2000, so I guess its expiration date has finally arrived. Anyway, my family is thinking about getting the whole computer replaced. Whats the point of replacing the power supply box anyway, the computer has been through a lot. Its now unstable, horribly slow and its not going to handle anything these days. I was meaning to get it replaced anyway. Thanks again for helping guys.
  20. Hello all, I've noticed there are some people who are highly experienced with computers. I have a PC problem with my old computer. The problem is, that I try it booting up, it refuses. Instead, I hear several beeping noises. There is no image on the monitor, even though I've checked everything to see that every cable is firm on the PC box. Well, I did manage to bypass that problem, and the next problem occurs. Once it boots into Windows, the machine becomes unstable and hangs up completely. Once I tried to restart the computer, it refuses to boot up again. So I see this is a hardware related problem. Can you guys please help me out here. Does this mean I have to replace my old PC box? Well, I've been using it since 2000, so yes, its kinda old.
  21. You can manually download Microsoft .NET Framework version 1.1 from the Microsoft Downloads page, its about over 20MB. Or you can retry the updates again from Windows ME, I've had that problem before.
  22. Yes, there is a DOS emulator, but as azagahl said, its slow, and its not even compatible with some DOS applications. I wouldn't really use Windows ME to run DOS applications. Some of them isn't even compatible with ME, how crappy is that. I liked Windows 98 because of the advanced DOS mode support for games only.
  23. I only liked Windows 98 because of the DOS support, mainly for games. I wonder why ME hardly had any decent DOS support at all. I wished Windows XP had DOS support, like DOS Mode for games. Well, since it is based on the NT kernel, well, not much of a suprise really.
  24. No, when I performed a freshly installed copy of Windows 98 SE, it is still choppy and laggy, which I don't know why. It has happened with every computer I installed.
  25. Did any of you have this problem with Windows 98 SE/ME? When you install a certain program, the whole computer just stutters and lags? For example, the mouse movement is slow and laggy. It never happened with the first edition of Windows 98 though.
