  1. Are you installing when you have administrative rights or going to all users? Some admins replace the all users at each boot.
  2. This patch is important as it fixes a major security leak when viewing graphics files. Check out the news on slashdot.org.
  3. You will have to search your modem manual for the AT command to set this and add it to the initialization string, or replace your modem
  4. Can't you still access the file server without the client? Using the MS one?
  5. Have you tried a detect and repair?
  6. Way back in the day this setup did work for us. You may have to patch Norton though after installing.
  7. Is this on XP? Shadow Copy is a part of 2003. I have seen this happen if you have disk errors. Have you tried a full disk check?
  8. Have you tried the tools at sysinternals.com? They have a disk recovery. Or you can mount the disk from an XP machine. Also if safe mode is working do a search on the BSOD that you got. Usually this is related to hardware or a bad driver
  9. This would probably be your best forum.
  10. We use TightVNC and RDP in unison depending on the needs.
  11. Hi the INF is not actually the installer file for MDAC. You have to run the executable. My guess is you are installing an older MDAC version. Try using 2.8
  12. Hello if you have a login script you can do it when they log in but there is no HKLM setting that I am aware of so you have to do it on a per user basis somehow.
  13. Hi I just wanted to note there are other products out there other than exchange that will allow you to share PST's in a reliable way, also any application that uses MAPI will keep that file open. Glad you fixed it!
  14. Are you on XP Service Pack 2? Perhaps you disable this in your firewall?
  15. hal.dll is the hardware abstraction layer, the error you are getting can actually come from a bad disk or a bad piece of hardware. Or if you recently installed a major system component like the motherboard. Bottom line is something on your computer is toast.
