Well correct me if I'm wrong here...but it WAS your intent to start a flame thread was it not? I mean with the title of the thread such as it is....its a open invite for a flame session. Then if that wasnt enough you toss out there the silly reasoning "I'm incompetent, and because of it the game sucks". Thus followed by being proven incompetent, thus all the sudden the whole thread becomes "funny" in order to play off the fact you are incompetent. Please tell me what drives people to be trolls, is there some kind of twisted enjoyment you find in this, or is it you just like to see people have as s***ty of a day as you are having or worse? To answer your feeble question...no I do not own stock in id or Activision. Now if it wasn't your intent to have a flame session....then maybe you should put a little more effort into thread naming....not to mention bring some thing more to the table and what you did......XtremeMaC gave a arguable example as to why the game maybe lacking...in that he stated that he felt after some game play the enities became predictable, in their placement. So at least he gave some meat to the subject....actually why is he even defending you?
-
Interesting presumption you make there. Instead of "high school" try inserting "consultant, teacher, tech" as for age...hmm don't know about him but I ring in at 34. Regardless of the excuses made on his behalf, I find fault in opinions based purely on user error. hmm if any thing that strikes me as some thing, some one in high school would say. Well thats my two cents worth.
-
Bâshrat the Sneaky - Just wanted to say thanks for all the hard work thus far, and that I look forward to future driver packs.
-
hmm not exactly sure how your biz dealings really have any ill effect on you moving a slider a few notchs in the games own menu's....but oh well.
-
XPerties - Actually the game does give you the option to change its brightness (gamma), both in the console, as well as the menu's. I just do every thing in the console is all...my thing tho...most don't. Also with most video drivers these days you can setup profiles that will be used when a certain game is started. So when a game starts its profile is loaded and brightness, contrast, RGB values are tweaked as the end user would like them to be. Once the game exits the profile is unloaded and video settings revert back to what they where orginally. Well I'll give you the fact I have been rude and maybe even insulting, but the fact that you have not exercised proper control over your own system should not be the bases for disliking a game. Yeah you can dislike the game...I have no real problem over that aspect or you stating so, but make sure the reasons why are the games fault and not your own. Deezire - heh well its probably going to require a lot of hope, if that source code leak is any sort of indication of the sorry state of affairs at Valve. One can only hope they will exercise their lic for the Q3 engine and start porting over large chunks of code. I have hope for it....but that leak did paint a rather grim picture. XtremeMaC - Well I'm at a bit of a disadvantage there...since I haven't played any thing more than the demo for it....what I saw looked fine AI wise but still scripted, tho pathing was more than in most games. Unreal far as I'm aware of still has the best AI...tho maybe thats changed.
-
XtremeMaC - Okay I'll be flat floored if I replay a level in HL2 and insteed of one of its goons coming to kill me or the like it actually comes over and offers up its grandma's cookie recipe. Face it we are looking at scripted AI for the next 5 or more years at least...and even then there is going to be some preset objective and general path presets. XPerties - Okay I can understand you not knowing about the var commands, or heck the console in and of its self...but I do have a hard time understanding with your post count, and the fact you stated you have some rather buff systems at home...thus one would be lead to believe that your skilled in the use of computers in general.......but you never thought of upping the brightness on your monitor or tweaking the contrast?? or playing with the driver settings in the Display Pannel.....I think if your biggest grip is that you can't see any thing....you should be more up set with your self than the game, for not correcting the issue thats of little to no effort at all to fix. hmmm didn't realize I was using leet speak....still don't think I am...just taking for granted that you knew a thing or two about games...oh well my mistake.
-
"come on" phrase of the day I take it? Let me guess you played the game with a lesser system? As for how dark the game is...well its was meant to be like that...or didn't you actually read any thing about it? That said most play it with the gamma bumped up a tad...some place close to r_gamma 1.2-1.4 Actually over all I liked Alien vs Predator it had a few issues when I played it but over all a good game. CoD is a good SP game little doubt about that...but its MP sucks a**. Tho I can make out your slant on games judging from your last & prior statements....if its not a war game then it blows....so why oh why did you buy the game? Well if you haven't tried SoF II then I would suggest that SP is okay but the MP is awesome.

Mosselman - Well the Anti-American ribbings are getting old on this board. Download managers are useful...tho in general they do lose a lot of their appeal once one has broadband, since most downloads take little to no time to get even if it fails once or twice. That said tho....I still install GetRight when ever a high demand file comes out, like when a new copy of one of my fav Linux Distro's comes out...with a DM I have no problem aquiring it...where others may have to wait a day or so to get it. Also most P2P file sharing apps are just over glorified DM's. Any ways if you could please knock off the ribbings.
-
Well from looking at it I would say one of your pk4 files in damaged. Manually copy over the files from the install CD and every thing should be fine.
-
Mosselman - Exactly why was this comment- -needed?
-
Actually if all you care about is installing it...some one posted a AutoIt script or exe that will install it. Now if you want more stuff done than just a default install...then the link I posted prior seems to do the trick.

Performance Counters, and what they MIGHT be for
Nologic replied to kalavera's topic in Windows Tips 'n' Tweaks
kalavera - I believe "Start"=dword:00000000 Is suppose to be "Start"=dword:00000004 I think the values used for Services are: "Start"=dword:00000000 ; Not Available "Start"=dword:00000001 ; Not Installed "Start"=dword:00000002 ; Installed \ Automatic "Start"=dword:00000003 ; Installed \ Manual "Start"=dword:00000004 ; Installed \ Disabled So if nLite guts a service from the source you would then use "Start"=dword:00000000 If nLite prevents a service from being installed or that service normally doesn't get installed "Start"=dword:00000001 Any ways if the service does actually get installed you should use values 2-4 to control it. So really your orginal reg tweak should look like so [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\PartMgr] "Start"=dword:00000004 Well its good you found the issue, I'm sure this news will spare nuhi some hair pulling. hehe any ways take it easy and cya later. -

The feeling after using Firebox and Thunderbird (1
Nologic replied to Wai_Wai's topic in Software Hangout
SolidasRock - There is a extension that will allow you to open pages with IE, this way if you wanted to you could use FireFox as default...then when you come across some site that has to be rendered in IE...you just go there then reload it in IE from the right click context menu. Maybe not the ideal way to do things for you...but it is a option. IE View -
The feeling after using Firebox and Thunderbird (1
Nologic replied to Wai_Wai's topic in Software Hangout
Sorry I don't have time to go through every thing at this point (about to leave) Turn around time for a ciritical bug is 2 days average (IE 1 week minium). Security settings are mostly hidded, some one will probably get around to writing an extention some day to expose these settings...till then one would have to edit their chome file. Cookie control has a extention written for it currently if I recall. Exporting settings and such are done with a 3rd party app....but you could also go and copy these things your self from "documents and settings\*user name*\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\default.qrs": bookmarks.html cookies.txt formhistory.dat history.dat key3.db prefs.js signons.txt user.js hmm really you should browse the extention sites for Firefox and probably Thunderbird as well, most of what your taking issue with has been taken care of already....its just not part of Firefox mainline is all. extension room -
Phyridean - Is completely correct here, injures and dismemberments are the cause of the new bandwidth limits. It was because of this that SoF II, didn't include much of its GORE effects engine in the MP part of the game since it would lower the number of players and effectively remove 56k players. Now two years later and further broadband roll out...developers can now start using this kind of stuff more, tho really even then its going to be limited till fiber-to-home is more widely in place...which currently I've only heard of a few big roll outs in the USA & Japan. Those in the right area's could actually be able to play with 32 players...provided every one is on fiber.
-
XtremeMaC - Doom has MP but its limited to 8 players max for broadband, since it passes a lot of data...not sure what the limit is for LAN. Maybe in a future patch they will get it kicked up to a higher number...be nice to see 16 players at least some where down the road. HL2 should be able to do 32 players from the get go...since its dealing with less data.

You can disagree with me all you want, it doesn't bother me one bit. As for flying your inserting your own BS and are way off base. No people here are not afraid to fly....just all the **** check points are a hassle that eat up time and get on peoples nerves. As for Bush...well while I don't agree with him on all terms I have a hard time reaching your conclusion. I would also say get use to him since he will be getting relected...since we don't have any one better than him running for office. You are also grabbing at straws...know little of the rest of the world huh...well across from my house is a nice Russian couple with thier two cute boys, to the left of my house is a mother and her 3 kids from France...three house's to the right of my house is a multi-generation house hold of Chiness all very good people, and only the youngest of them where born here, around the corner is a couple from Iran, and the house next to them is own by a nice old gentalmen from Nigeria thats been here 8 years now and is hoping his grandson and wife will be coming over this holiday season. So while I my self my not be traveling the globe...I'm not sheltered from it ether and I do hear concerns and prase over the stance this country takes on issues. Now while my block maybe mostly made up whites born and breed here, every one here does talk and does get along other than when some ones dog poop's in some one else yard...then a bit of a fuss maybe struck up for 10min of bitching. Actually Janet showing her tit wasn't over all a big thing....media drummed it up more than what it was....and I certainly don't recall the nation coming to any sort of stop over this....only times I recall this nation coming to a halt in my life time was when the shuttle blew up and the Trade Centers where distroyed. hmm I don't know about European's laughing at us...maybe just you and a few others. Please don't forget that our latest vintures in globle policing have been aided and manned by most European nations. Okay I'm puzzled here...how the hell do you know that HL2 offers better game play than D3? The aswer is you don't....shame on you for making such a wild speculation. Yes a lot of drones play CS...I'll give you that...but I've also seen the latest vid on that...and frankly it doesn't look much better than whats offered in SoF II, other than better water...and better skeletal animation...hehe both of which could be patched into SoF II, other than the fact Raven won't bother since they aren't getting any funds for it and they got bigger projects going on right now. Also I imagine that CS is now being packaged with HL2 because a few of my buddys are porting thier rather popular mod to Enemy Territory...maybe you've heard of it Urban Terror....which other than water...will look just as pretty...hehe and play better than CS....but that is my personal pref...but more to the point that they will no longer really be able to sale is since there will be some thing offered for free of equal value. As for gifts...I'll be getting those as well....I just don't expect that any of them will be for what I need to buff up my system. I'll be buying both games as is....its not like you can only buy just one game....I just can't understand HL-CS fan boys thinking whats being brought to thier gaming world as the hottest tech out there....its not...but by **** sure its one hell of a upgrade to what they have been playing....they will finally be able to enjoy the things those of us that play the latest incarnations of Quake and Ureal have been enjoying for years. Hehe welcome to modern times.

Not an easy qns to solve but.. please help
Nologic replied to yong2579's topic in Application Installs
mazin - Well after giving it more thought....kenedy is probably more correct than I am. Since my method actually requires a window be created at some point...if no window is ever created then it just hangs. So with that in mind and actually running with what kenedy has already outlined I'd suggest the following: Func _App_Tick($at) While ProcessExists ($at) = 1 Sleep (250) WEnd EndFunc Run("App_Name.exe /Switchs"); Orginal file execution _App_Tick(proc_1.exe) _App_Tick(proc_2.exe) _App_Tick(proc_3.exe) ... All this does is create a fuction called _App_Tick but you can name it what ever...that just came to mind. Which is used to save a tad bit on code...or a lot of code depending how many sub-proc's get spawned. One should ideally just pass one active executable to the fuction...thus as one executable is exited...the newly created one should be passed to the fuction...so on and so forth. So if you start "Setup_Photoshop.exe" you would then just pass that executable: _App_Tick(Setup_Photoshop.exe) Now lets say durning that time frame "Setup_Photoshop.exe" launch's a sub-proc "Setup_QuickTime.exe" but "Setup_Quicktime.exe" starts and finishs prior to "Setup_Photoshop.exe" being completed...in this case there would be no need to pass "Setup_QuickTime.exe" to the fuction, since "Setup_Photoshop.exe" would still keep the script sleeping. Now lets say "Setup_Photoshop.exe" exits but in doing so "Setup_Remote_Agent.exe" is spawned...in this case we would pass "Setup_Remote_Agent.exe" to the fuction: _App_Tick(Setup_Remote_Agent.exe) We would continue to do this as long as one proc is killed off and a new one is spawned. So we end up with some thing that looks roughly like so: Func _App_Tick($at) While ProcessExists ($at) = 1 Sleep (250) WEnd EndFunc Run("Setup_Photoshop.exe /VERYSILENT"); Orginal file execution _App_Tick(Setup_Photoshop.exe) _App_Tick(Setup_Remote_Agent.exe) Hehe any ways kenedy was right and I was wrong. -
enuffsaid - hmmm depends...I'm sure sales of any given game are likely to be higher during x-mas season...but with Doom its not just the game being sold thats important...but also the hardware to go along with it. With id games as I would hope you do know...is also the need to upgrade to the latest wiz bang hardware in order to make it fly. Where as HL 2 should run fine (if they clean up the code) on a 2ghz box with a ATI 8500 or Nvidia GF3 installed. Well in europe maybe everyone is going all over the place but LOT of us here in the States aren't going any place we can't drive to....airports here are just plane hell these days...and thats just flying with in our air space let alone actually going some place & returning. Oh was that a pot shot I seen go zipping past me? Actually no normally I'm out in the field building some highrise, mall, dam, highway....I make rather good money...but come x-mas time there is no way for me to sport the funds for a system upgrade to enjoy a game...and I'm sure that goes for many others as well....the price of the game isn't the limiting factor...its the hardware...so to me its better that they released it during the summer time while I and many others can afford to flip the bill for some hardware....instead of releasing it when I'm strapped for cash because I'm buying everyone gifts. hehe yes Quake I did have me on the edge of my seat a good part of the time while playing it...but I have a hard time recalling any thing since then that did the same thing for me....HL had a few spots...same goes for RtCW...maybe console's have more to offer in this area...but PC's its kind of lackluster at best. So while Doom III may not be bringing any thing new to the table in the way of game play...it's at least trying to do some thing a little less played out...and thats fear....HL 2 doesn't even make that effort really. Actually HL 2 is just copying every thing that other games already have done....there is nothing new about that game at all. At least with Doom III we got new lighting.
-
Hehe your correct once HL 2 is out Doom III will be forgotten about...along with Quake IV, UT2006,....hehe. I'm sure HL 2 will be a fun game...and one I will be picking up...but I'm not sure where you get the idea that it will offer more content than other games during the same time period. From a tech point of view...it doesn't offer much more than the latest versions of Q3E and is on par with UT2004 or Far Cry...which Far Cry may come out a cut above with its next patch.... If that source code leak is any indication of the quality of code that was in the game at the time....then well..they might have been wiser to have keeped developing on thier lic of the Q3E and just bolt on the new stuff...because what they had was kind of p*** poor for the time they have spent on it. I have no doubt they will be able to develop a fun and worth while game...but I think that Valve has been to busy playing with other tech stuff (Steam,...) then with the development of thier game. hmm sure it is...this way all the teenagers can earn the money needed to upgrade thier systems for D3 to run smooth. Any ways we'll just have to wait and see how things play out...but me personally I'm looking forward to both...tho honestly I"m more excited about Doom....since it looks like it will scare the s*** out of me.
