  1. See this post: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=65060 This might be useful for you. I basically created a program that will install applications from a cd, during insertion of the media. It launches from Autorun.Inf. You edit the text file, installer.dat, where you specify the path, name of program, and any text info you want displayed.
  2. I wrote a simple autorun menu program similiar to the one you are talking about (except mine is free) that can run batch files or any other program that you want. I just updated it. installer.zip
  3. i rest my case........... this is a WINDOWS ME Boot disk...not a boot disk to install windows ME... goto http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm and download the WINDOWS ME OEM Bootdisk, and use that with memdisk...it WON'T work.... Interesting, when you use the 'memdisk' command, like you referred to at the beginning of this post, the only logical reason is to run a floppy image, not a boot sector of a WindowsME install. So in response to the way your post was worded and the context, it would be logical to assume you were referring to a setup disk. Otherwise Diskemu is a better choice to run an image of an installation. It would be nice if people can appreciate people trying to help out instead of lashing out like a 3 yr old child
  4. You are doing it wrong.... If you have the original install disks, microsoft has a readme file for doing this. If you want something simple, it is better to download the boot98 image from the internet. refer to flyakite's tutorial. or the hard method, extract the dos files you want to use from the disks, you have to type in extract fdisk.co_ fdisk.com for each file on the disk(s). also you dont want to run the setup program after you extract all the files. I use WinImage. Much easier... If you edit or create an image name it with .ima extension. then edit cdshell, to /memdisk dos622.ima or whatever you name the file
  5. I come in peace (I thought I'd better write that first since it seams quite heated around here). I actually like your installer. It's quick and easy to use, exactly what I need for my multi-boot disc to start the Windows upgrade installers. I have two requests though. 1. Would it be possable to add an option to change the title text to fit with what ever purpose the disc was for. Obviously you would want to keep the copywrite bit or even add to it since you made the installer. 2. Work on creating a way of copying..........wait for it........... five digit codes ...........in to five boxes............ can you see were I'm going with this?!! Either that or anyway other way you can make it easier to input serials with out pen and paper, since I'm just gonna add them to the display area on the installer for now. I know the second request is probably gonna be a ball ache so if you can't do it, it doesn't matter. I'm still gonna use this installer cos I like it. Keep up the good work. The title thing is not a Problem... I am not quite sure what you are asking about when you are referring to the serial number situation. Are you wanting the serial numbers to be displayed w/ a pop up box? or appear on the form, if you are asking if i can write it to enter a serial number into the install process, there may be a problem with some programs that do not allow for silent installations. As far as Trooper is concerned, he is right. His program accomplishes the same thing, and it is nice. I just wanted to create something light weight, that can run off the cd when you insert it in the drive, without having to rely on other programs, ie Internet Explorer I wrote this program w/ Visual Basic, it is simpler that way... Not that I get angry or something like it, but my Autorun IS for installing software with the possibility to create ISO / DVD; but again: it is just an additional feature. So please: Read my thread, too. But I can see that someone wants a more leightweight autorun without all these gadgets and gizmos and that such people prefer yours. And also I like the idea of giving alternatives. So here's one suggestion: Try to make it possible to let the user switch between a ComboBox and a ListBox. A listbox will make it easier to find an select something. I do like your program, But yours is designed for Windows installations, Mine is more of a modification on the Autorun.inf file found on many Software CD's... And yours is setup to run from Internet Explorer. I do like the features you have on your program, but mine isnt intended to be like yours. I designed mine to be a runalone simple control, nothing as elaborate or fancy as yours. I was just upset about people taking pot shots at me for something I was sharing for free. I dont care if people modify my code for their own use, just that people dont use it for spreading viruses or doing something illegal. I would be willing to email the source if people want to modify for their own purpose.
  6. That program is nothing like mine.... read my thread..... This program is for installing software, not for making iso's or dvd's.... I thought somebody would like a free program instead of criticizing it... I didnt intend on sending my software to a Best Software contest. I just wrote a program I thought people could use.. You try to be nice, and some people just dont appreciate it...... Why would I download a program when I can write one that would serve my purpose??? Are you
  7. Are you trying to Add Knoppix to the Multi boot CD??? If so you need to create a boot file... CD Shell in essence loads boot files, and if the boot file isnt pointing to your file system, you will be exited to the shell.
  8. Stay away from Imation... I use Maxell or Memorex DVD + R. Less compatibility issues with a + R. I have a Lite-On DVD Burner, so i use the booktype utility for the drive and set the booktype to DVD-ROM. That makes the DVD work on any DVD Drive.
  9. I havent had any problems with memdisk and WinME.... Read Flyakite's tutorial on adding WinME.. you basically would download the boot image from the internet.. I used boot98se.ima, edited autoexec.bat to run setup, created an image file thru WinImage, naming it ME.ima and edited cdshell.ini to memdisk. ie.. memdisk /ME.ima
  10. This program is launched when you insert a CD\DVD in windows. What it does is it lets you choose what program you want to install from a drop down box. It is configurable to allow you to add your programs to the drop down box by editing a file called installer.dat in Notepad. It is free to use. I was looking for a program like it on the internet, got frustrated when everybody wanted ridiculous sums of money for a program that takes 10 minutes to write. It is a small program. I have tested it on Windows XP and it works fine. Installer.zip
  11. I'm assuming that you are referring to the Dos 6.22 disks when you are talking about disk swapping... The only way you can do this is manually, as Dos 6.22 will ask for the next disk and so on. If you see the readme file on setup disk #1, you have to expand the files on each disk to a directory ie.. C:\dosSetup. The problem you have is there always seems to be at least 1 file with the same name on each disk. So be careful when you copy that you don't overwrite an important file. the readme file explains this... Once you are done expanding, then you have another problem, creating the image. If you want it to install on boot, you need to make the image a bootable one, ie... edit autoexec.bat to load the setup file. then edit cdshell.ini to run the image, memdisk /dos622.ima It is an arduous and frustrating task, Good Luck to you... Chris Bear in mind if you try to be slick and copy each disk to its own directory, the setup disks will not ask you for the location of the next setup disk and/or its files, it will just stare at you. I have tried this before, and I wasted my time, you have to have 1 directory with all the files, expand them to a directory and cross your fingers
  12. You got to be kidding me.... Why not just create a startup disk in win 98 or download a win98 boot image and use winimage.... create a dos folder on your cd and have the path in your autoexec.bat file point to the dos directory..... i.e. PATH: %Systemdisk%\Dos;C:\;A:\;etc... then add an option to cdshell.ini to memdisk /boot98.ima... which will do the same thing as ramdisk or you can always edit autoexec.bat with labels in dos 6.22 as such: @ Echo off echo Do you want to boot from CD? Choice:yn then if yes, then go to label to load mscdex and oakcdrom.sys in config.sys if no, quit.. or you can always do the menu option thing in config.sys
  13. I found a solution.... I am using a command called bootcheck to see if partition is bootable, and if it is then I have a menu pop up to go to menu or boot os.... If the partition is not bootable, it will go right to setup
  14. It should boot off the cd without having to copy files.. Just edit the sys file in the ISO and edit the bootfile to look for Knoppix....
  15. Are you trying to add drivers? Or apps? or are you trying to set the source and/or target drive?
  16. Thanks for the response, but that is not what I meant... When you allow the cdshell to boot from the hard drive, it gives you a linux command prompt... I want to bypass the menu from coming up to go straight into windows. During the boot process, the system checks the boot folder for the loader. bin file... I am looking for a way to either have an option to bypass the menu, or load the menu
  17. I have the Bootmenu come up fine, select Windows XP or 2000 to install from, it does its thing, but when it reboots to install Windows after copying the files as it normally does in setup, the system goes right back to bootmenu and starts over again. has anyone figured out how to bypass the bootmenu, so I could go straight back to windows setup
  18. Yeah, it doesnt work, I typed everything verbatim in the guide...
