  1. do you tried removing .NET 3 ? is a heavy package (assembly folder + Microsoft.NET folder = 410 MB)
  2. what pagefile size include your install foot print? Well, you post the answer before my post. Congratulations man, under 2 GB will be a hit !!!!!!!!!!!
  3. After apply nullify to (some folders) within WinSxS, my install footprint is 2.20 Gb, and PDF printers works OK !!!!!!!!! Dead0, I think that drivers are better removed with vLite (printers, fax, scanners, etc), and you? (BTW, my Seven install footprint include 512 MB pagefile )
  4. Nullify updated. Now can nullify files with spaces in their name EDITED: download nullify update 2 in the nexts posts
  5. This forum have a problem with Opera and attached files
  6. I wrote a small CMD utility in Delphi that nullify ALL files in a folder: 1) Download TreeSize Profesional (http://www.jam-software.com/treesize/) 2) Download nullify utility, copy to windows\system32, run the .reg file to add nullify.exe as folder shell utility 3) Mount install.wim 3) Open Treesize Profesional, scan the drive where install.wim is mounted 4) Navigate to [mount folder]\Windows\WinSxS 5) Right click in a folder, click in option "Nullify ALL files here" My utility create a file "C:\nullify.bat" and automatically run it. The file is not deleted. Tested in Windows XP SP3. Enjoy it !!!! WARNING!!!!! Don't run this utility in any folder from your C:\ drive !!!!!!!!!!!! EDITED: download nullify update 2 in the nexts posts
  7. Well, I'm thinking in a shell utility that nullify all files in one folder (right click in a folder, click in "nullify all files")
  8. Dead0, I'm checking the WinSxS folders sizes, see the attach image: 1) Printer support eat 360 MB in WinSxS !!!!!!!!! 2) winocr_ocrengines eat 42 MB (this is vLite fault or DISM fault ? Your bat file remove the package Microsoft-Windows-WinOcr-Package....) 3) wallpapers folders (lanscape, architectura, scenes, nature) eat 39 MB 4) windows_imageres + windows_musicsamples eat 36 MB 5) inboxgames_spades eat 32,5 Mb 6) boxgames_backgammon eat 11,7 MB ..... So, is possible nulify folders related to packages removed right ? and reduce about 300-400 MB from WinSxS This confirm your teory about DISM vs vLite removal ? EDIT: The first image is belongs to the previous post, I don't know why is showed in this post
  9. Dead0, I attach one image witch packages pending after apply DISM+Vlite (33 packages)
  10. Well, I'll wait for your new preset BTW, I reduce the install.wim to 848 MB, but still far from 565 !!!!! Dead0, vLite don't remove Powershell anbd DVDMaker right? Can remove these packages with DISM ?
  11. Well, my disappoint is relative to Vista Hard Disk usage, and that Seven feels more "snappy" with the hardware
  12. I'm using dead0 DISM removal guide + custom vlite preset (forked from dead0 vlite preset). I can give you my preset. BTW, I am testing with Seven 7229 x86 Ultimate English.
  13. Well, if both are same, why Vista Setup is slower that Seven Setup? Even Seven boot more faster.
  14. The smallest install.wim file size for me was 854 MB, what do you remove to shrink to 565 MB? .NET 3 ? (.net is about 300 MB)
  15. Whaaaaaaaats ? How can you do it ? 565 MB
  16. Dead0, I am a bit disappointed with Vista. See this (both with 512 MB Pagefile size without Hibernation file and heavy vLite reduction): 1) vLited Vista SP2 Home Premium Spanish MSDN x86 (deleted backup folder): 2.4 GB (2.35 GB without apply 5 post-sp2 updates) 2) vLited Seven Ultimate 7229 English x86 (dead0 mini-guide): 2.35 - 2.6 GB I thought that Vista SP2 could be shrinkred to 1.5-1.8 GB. Vista SP2 setup was MORE SLOWER that Seven Setup (I'm testing in VMWare) My Conclusion: not worth installing Vista (including SP2).
  17. Confirmed: I apply 5 post-SP2 updates to Vista Home Premium SP2 Spanish MSDN, while vLite was working I delete ALL content from Backup Folder: Windows Vista install OK, WU run OK and detect only 3 updates (IE8, one for Media Center and Anti-Malware June 2009) Why Microsoft apply SP2 and left over about 400 MB in the Backup Folder ?
  18. Hi, Dead0 suggest in their DISM mini guide delete WinSxS\Backup content in Seven. Can be this applied to Vista SP2?
  19. What happen if remove WinSxS with vLite? only break Windows Update? EDIT: Well, Seven setup don't finish without WinSxS, I'll start again...
  20. Dead0,after change your new .bat file to use with 7229 x86, and apply your new last_session.ini with vLite, I have the next reality (comparing with your previous files in the mini-guide): 1) The install.wim file is smaller. 2) Of course, the ISO file is smaller (about 30 mb) but..... 3) Windows Seven setup REFUSE to install in a 4 GB disk, and suggest a disk with 6,5 GB of free space. With previous files from mini-guide, I can install Seven in 4 GB hard disk. 4) After install Seven, the hard disk install size (512 MB pagefile without hibernation) is bigger (2.35 GB vs 2.84 GB) 5) Windows Update don't work at first time; I need to open IE first, configure default options, then open WU, WU runs OK. My conclusion: With Seven x86, your previous DISM removal file is more effective I will test now: your original mini-guide package removal file + Jeronimo additional packages removal file + vLite I want to reduce the install size to 2 GB !!!
  21. Can especify what files you removed manually ? I'll try your new .bat with Win7 7229 x86 and report here the results
  22. Dead0, removing the package Microsoft-Windows-Printer-Drivers-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.7229.0 will break install any printer? Or this package is driver only? Because I always need to install a PDF printer.
  23. After applying DISM, vLite DON'T show correct packages leftover.
  24. Well, I think that removing all packages with vLite (leftover only these showed packages) produce a image that don't install.
