  1. Flasche uses POS2009.
  2. That was when Windows 2000 started getting unofficial updates, and most software developers kicked support for it. However, XP seems more popular, so it will probably getting unofficial updates sooner than that. I do, however, think that in 2 years, all the developers will cease support for XP. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------- DAMMIT! Still haven't figured out the "direct" way of getting around "quotes" ---------------- I guess you didn't notice tha Unofficial Updates happened WAY sooner than that! Win2000 was EOL July 2010. That makes nearly FOUR years! By your reconning, that would make only TWO YEARS of "unofficial"! Where do you get your figures from? Did you take that New Math / Common Core course? "Unofficial" began IMMEDIATELY at EOL, as everyone here at MSFN is fully aware. SEEMS TO BE THAT YOU, SIR, ARE ATTEMPTING TO GENERATE FUD AS WELL! Be aware that AS OF THIS MOMENT the day after), there are SOME that are already awaiting the NEXT Patch Tuesday to see what can be "transplanted".
  3. Links fixed above. My browser has some "derp" going on. Yes, probably can.
  4. Not IE8 as nLite now handles that. WMP11 is integrated via this - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/90635-release-boooggys-wmp-11-direct-integration-solution/ dotNET is a different story. I really don't know. Perhaps dencorso (llok up his member name) can chime in on that. Other fixes you can match the KB numbers to this list - http://xdot.tk/ http://xdot.tk/updates/ <<==No longer valid - use above (now a direct link) Note that it hasn't been updated to April yet, but soon will be. HTH
  5. One last post before I go POOF! "So let me ask the obvious..." - if it was obvious, then why ask?
  6. Otherwise, no clue. I had already cleared my Browser Cache before signing in. As far as ISP Cache... I was under the impression that the DNS would simply pass me on? Ennyhoo, irrelevant as the correct links are in place.
  7. No, this is a way somebody bumps post count by rehashing what has already been hashed PER RESPONSE. Did you not notice the MultiQuote button? Most of the respondents have said as much in the other Topics. Did you use the google I provided? Bet you didn't.
  8. (sigh...) Did we NOT say that it doesn't always? It depends on each individual need. Are you looking for a consensus? THAT, sir, is NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS, now is it? edit - This post went through after the last posting by the OP was made. AGAIN, BROWSE the SubForum or SEARCH and the answers are already there. I respectfully request that this Topic be closed. edit2 - Do THIS google and get the "why" and stop asking! "windows 98" "why use" site:msfn.org
  9. @-X- It may be your browser is "reporting" that. I'm not on XP ATM (nunya biz ) and am using Firefox12. Nonetheless, the links you gave are the same as for the Vista/Win7 files dated 10/24/2013 and the MPAM-files are as-of today (AFAICT). HTH
  10. @erkange - Save you money. MSFN contributions are free and it's against MSFN rules to buy/sell hardware, software, or services. If it can be done, rest assured, someone will do it and post it. In the meanwhile, there appears to be a problem "making it work".
  11. Well, it may SAY that, but go "select your version" - Vista and Windows7 shows only. edit - ARGH!!! Same files, they DID scrub XP from the Version Selection, though.
  12. Weird! I thought they specifically stated they would continue to support it? Maybe they meant just the definitions? Thanks for heads-up. I assume you're working on the EOS UDC script? No need to answer unless you're compelled, as I will simply keep checking. edit - and here is the latest definitions - http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/definitions/adl.aspx HTH someone...
  13. For Ultimate (what the requestor specified) it (language) remains the same. But thanx, maxXPsoft, for an additional link to SP1 (not SP1u, but it only means a single KB won't be included - usually no biggie).
  14. This is ludicrous. How many people can afford to purchase a new computer? Every single one of mine are castaways that I DIY-upgrade, except for one that's a Purchased ($150) Refurbish that I had to save up to get. This is incorrect, AFAICT. You've at every post argued against its use.SO glad you can afford to buy a new PC and Upgrade to a newer OS, however I see no point in castigating others for their use of said OS on older (and newer) hardware. I say BROWSE around MSFN and see the points that have already been made. But we repeat ourselves at your instigation. @AnyMod - is there a real point to this Topic (been discussed many times over)? Indeed, XP at EOS "The sky is falling! Upgrade!"
  15. On a side note - http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2014/04/08/data-point-microsoft-walks-away-from-xp-but-many-others-havent/?mod=ST1 Not going away real soon.
  16. Um... SP1u - English, French, Spanish. Did you even look? What Language do you want? You never said - I simply explained the SP1 vs SP1u difference and gave an alternative (and more complete) link. You ARE aware of the EI.CFG "trick" (remove and all versions are available, just like Vista)? Did you also miss this?
  17. Your basic question is "WHY?" A simple answer is "Because we can." Your complex questions, as you responded, appear to be "Should I or not, because of such-and-such problems?" The answers given say "there are work-arounds, and some limitations have to be accepted." What's your point? You know there are multiple Topics just like this one and the Software to do "more" is available here. Go browse them rather than asking the same questions that have already been answered elsewhere. HTH
  18. Should have tried another newer date. Better get it while it's hot!
  19. Doubting that it will be two years before Unofficial Updates, if I understood this correctly. As for me, I have multiple OS' depending on the purpose and hardware, so yes/no. Go ahead and try to break in, that is if you think I'm not home (PC on and connected at random times) and CAN break in (through NAT and two firewalls and a running antivirus). Wonder which OS you'll be trying to attack? Ooohhh I'm scared! Seriously, the Topic/Question is the same as the other Topics. Are you a News Reporter, attempting to get us to be distraught as possible of the impending disaster (yet to occur)? I noticed the NEWS stations running short blurbs about this with recommendations to UPGRADE NOW TO WIN8! Got the idea of all of this nonsense? I do! "I ain't afraid of no ghost!"
  20. It's the same one and is a defunct download (not found). Here's the archived web page, but the file no longer exists. http://web.archive.org/web/20060202235929/http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=08ed83b9-b34b-4397-a23f-a6b51f0d9f9b&DisplayLang=en
  21. Beg pardon? And I gave the REASON that you got the responses you got! I know where it is but will NOT share its location, as it is a FULL BLOWN one with 98SE already on it and ADDITIONAL (potential) Warez. When something has a non-distributable commercial copyrighted software on it, it is WAREZ! AFAICT, it's ONLY available as a TORRENT for that very reason! To put it your way, you are sh1t out of luck! Use USP98 instead and be happy (or not).
  22. I give up! You even posted before my Edit was complete. Fine - this is Burger King - Have It Your Way.
  23. ???? ONE server! How do you come to the conclusions that you do (quite erroneously I might add)? http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/2008.07.desktopfiles.aspx Here - try this "simplified" approach (disclaimer - have NOT used this) - http://www.rmprepusb.com/tutorials/serva Also look here - http://diddy.boot-land.net/pxe/ One Server, all Server Services necessary, PXE boot from Client to Single Server, and Go-Go! I do believe the NIC has to have PXE built into the Firmware as well. The newer built-in NIC has either RIS (older), or PXE (usually), or Both. Generally in Corporate Environments it's a lot easier to set up the Server, go to each PC and PXE boot them. And it IS much faster than using a slower CD/DVD in this case. You can also, if the SIF/XML and Server is properly set up, just walk away from each one.
  24. Yes. Those are all English. Look here for other languages - http://www.heidoc.net/joomla/technology-science/microsoft/14-windows-7 Apparently, the Editions you do -not-want will need to be stripped out, since -all- versions are stored inside the INSTALL.WIM, which is how you would "shrink" the WIM without losing any functionality for the Edition you want. I don't do that, but prefer to use the Full DVD of the intended necessary Edition (even if it has unwanted Editions on it). Media Refresh includes KB2534111, otherwise SP1 and SP1u are exactly the same. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2534111 HTH
  25. Referring not to Installs but Remote Diskless Workstations. Gave the "Win3.x" as an early (and used) example. The MS KB article - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/114425 Another example - http://www.netbsd.org/docs/network/netboot/ Same concept, different end result. Simply pointing out the "misnomer" that was given in the search for "netboot", of which I said googled.
