  1. I have experienced the same with Windows 7 BETA. The WEI score went down from 4.x in Vista to 1.0 in Windows 7 BETA. With the new Windows 7 RC the score is "back to normal". Are you using the BETA version?
  2. I have managed to find a solution that works. Instead af a custom.prf file, you can configure changes in an existing Office installation in a new answer file/MSP file and just deploy this file instead of redeploying the office applications. Further information can be found in this Microsoft Technet article: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc179041.aspx
  3. Hi I have a case at a customer where I need to change some settings in an installed unattended Office 2007 setup. I have made an MSP file with the Office customization wizard, in the answer file I have, among other things, specified an email server address, so that the clients Outlook settings are automatically deployed. I am now in a situation where the customer have changed this address because of a mailserver upgrade and I now need to change the address. With an unattended Office 2003 it was possible to change these kind of settings in the custom.prf file in the \Microsoft Office folder, this file is not present when using Office 2007 it's probably been replaced by an XML file. Which file do I need to edit ? Alternatively I have to make a new MSP answerfile and then reinstall Office 2007. I hope the above makes sense
  4. I noticed this aswell, today actually. I found out that it was because my computer hadn't recived any Windows Experience Index rating. After if ran the Windows Experience rating app. I was able to choose the Windows Aero interface.
  5. Hmm.I use Ventrilo.Removed Ease of Access but so far had not had any problems with Ventrilo(i dont use text-to-speech) I have Canon Pixma IP2000 printer, removed Canon printer drivers but integrated IP2000 drivers (in fact they were meant for XP). Works well! Im using Canon MP110.Removed def Canon drivers and integrated correct Vista x86 MP110 drivers but printer was not recognized no matter what. Ventrilo will work just fine without Ease Of Access, but if you need the TTS (text-to-speech), instead of just making a sound, the client "plays" the name of the person logging in or out of the server/channel. This will not work if the Ease of Access is removed, because the Microsoft TTS software is a part of the Ease of Access feature.
  6. Ventrilo Components: Ease Of Access If you remove Ease of Access you are unable to use the built-in TTS (text-to-speech)
  7. Run dcpromo on the second server and make it a domain controller in an existing domain (Current domain)
  8. Mixed mode domain is usually a domain with a mix of Windows Server 2003 and Windows 2000 server not necessarily two different domains within the same building
  9. You can try to apply the "BIOS defaults" in the BIOS may also be called "Setup defaults" Also try to disable any BIOS shadowing. A last tip, try another/other RAM modules, I have experienced quite a few times that Windows XP/2000 setup would fail or go into BSOD because of faulty RAM modules.
  10. Raxco PerfectDisk is also worth mentioning. In my opinion a lot better than the built in defragger in Windows Only downside is that it's not free. http://www.raxco.com/
  11. Thank god Microsoft invented the rename of files and folders feature...
  12. Let's hope that server dosn't crash, you'll have a problem then In my opinion you should try to promote the server to a domain controller and then add another domain controller to the domain, when were talking about 1500 users redundancy is highly recommended, also helps taking a bit of the load off of the server.
  13. Did you test the original Windows 2K3 CD ? Perhaps something went wrong in the slipstream process...
  14. Huh. I have installed service packs on Windows NT, 2000 and now 2003 for years and never had any problem doing so. Upgrading the OS from a different OS line (NT -> 2000, 2000 -> XP, etc) might prove shaky, but installing service packs is usually definitely not. Most often, it's not that different from installing a bunch of hotfixes. If you think administrators have nothing else to do than reinstalling from scratch every time a service pack is out, you're obviously either kidding me or ignorant. Pick one. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Couldn't have said it better myself.
  15. Here's a link to the Virtual Machine it works just fine: http://www.tweakup.dk/fil_arkiv/c22d4c6ed7...se/msjavx86.exe
