Probably because I add the reg files first and then add the user in cmdlines.txt. It probably copies the HKEY_USERS into CURRENT_USER when the user is created.

Well.. yeah.. says you need those files on his site. 4th paragraph in italics. Those are the programs that take stuff out/put stuff in the cabs and mess with the text in the infs and sifs. If I were you, delete what you have done so far, recopy your XP CD, slipstream SP1(a) if need be. Get expand, makecab and findstr from the i386 folder and start over. Joe really did a great job on the batch commands, but I say he needs to expand on his before you begin .cmd for some error checking. Did you use his "Before you begin" and "Finsihing off" batches? Did you have makecab, expand and findstr in the same folder as the batches?

Ahh.. just means whatever was launched at the time of the error couldn't find what it was looking for, probably Documents and Settings? Since there was a space in your command and no quotes to make it one command, it couldn't find the folder and gave an error. So, just look for something in your batch files or whatnot and wrap it in quotes. eg.. Change MOVE C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Start Menu\Programs\Link.lnk C:\Documents and Settings\AllUsers\Start Menu\Programs\Link.lnk to MOVE "C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Start Menu\Programs\Link.lnk" "C:\Documents and Settings\AllUsers\Start Menu\Programs\Link.lnk" Hope that makes sense. Seems more complicated than it should be. Simplest error in the books.

But.. that's what the above code does. If imported, then when you log on, or restart, the Quick Launch will be there. Works for me!

Well, it says how to do it within the first 5 paragraphs of Joe's site, but I sorta agree they do need a little more detailed documentation, esp in the .zip file you download. Anyway, just take expand.exe, makecab.ex_ and findstr.ex_ out of I386 Expand the two ex_ files with expand. Put all the batches you wanna use and the 3 files above in the root of the CD that's on your HD. Either expand driver.cab and sp1.cab or first click on the "DRIVERS! Before you Begin.cmd" Keep clicking on all the .cmds you want, waiting like 30 secs or so after each is finished to make sure its finished. Lastly .cmd file to click is "DRIVERS! Finishing off" Then delete the 3 file and all the .cmd files from your CD root and that should be it.

WinRAR can make shortcuts as part of an SFX. For the winamp.msi posed on XtremeMac's site he is missing a few files (namely px.dll) and I just extract my own with WinRAR and create a shortcut to Winamp.exe at the same time.

I did some searching on the Sun Java homepage and found this document that lists detailed info on how to install the latest Java silently, with options, etc.. Just saw this thread, downloaded the WMP9 opk from the cjb site and wanted to know what exactly each thing in the command line does. Most importantly is the /c: (..../R:N /c: "setup_wm....). I dual boot XP and 98 and my XP partition is D: so do I have anything to worry about?

Sorry, I actually haven't tested it, but shouldn't putting the folder to nvautils.inf in [OemDriversPath] work? It is a .inf file after all? Maybe if doesn't use nvautils.inf to install the nForce Control Panel, maybe you could launch it manually with the command: "rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 nvautils.inf" ?? Just thoughts, will be able to test once I figure out VirtualPC, or get my SATA HD next week..

Yeah, I guess .cat is right, but I don't see the point in this step either. Until someone fully explains it, I'm going to test without it. I guess it will put those infs and .cats in the Windows\inf folder for some reason. In the Windows\inf folder I don't see any .cat files?? As for the adding sstray.exe /r to the registry by an extra .reg file seems unnecessary to me. The file nvautils.inf (in AudioUtl) does this anyway.. Please, someone tell me why..

With the program i6comp.exe from i6comp020.zip on this site you can extract, replace, delete files in InstallShield .cab files. Included in that i6comp020.zip is the source code so any of you devs can play with it I guess.. I didn't make it so, check out that site first. Using this program I replaced PERSFW.exe (Kerio Personal Firewall) in data1.cab so I could use a patch, splash-screen-less, in my install. Check out my other post here about that. Hope this helps anyone. If anyone has an easier method of how to edit InstallShield cab files, let me know..

I use Kerio Personal Firewall and it's great, except for one thing, the splash screen that pops up when Windows starts. Well, most people know that you can disable that by patching PERSFW.exe with the KPF Splash Screen Killer. Now, the cool part is including that patched file in the Installshield .cab file so you don't have to patch it again when you go to install Kerio. Using i6comp.exe from ie6comp020.zip on this site I copied over the PERSFW.exe in data1.cab and went to test it. It worked great! Now I can install Kerio Personal Firewall 2.1.5 and not have that annoying splash screen that pops up every time. :

Well.. When I install TweakUI 2.10 I don't create a shortcut for it in the start menu by copying a shortcut to it. Instead I merge the registry info below and it adds TweakUI to the Control Panel, where I think it should be. I've never done any silent Control Panel installs (heck, not even an unattended install yet (very new)) and I was reading InstallShield's website and this is what I want to test. Please tell me if someone has already done this or why it wouldn't work. First, the -r option does work.. It will create a setup.iss "in the Windows folder" at the end of the install containing the options chosen during the normal install.. Using that, just do a test install of the Control Panel (setup.exe -r) and install as normally.. After installation is finished, replace the setup.iss in the CPanel folder with the one it created after install of the -r option. Check to see if it has the BootOption=0, if not change it. Don't forget to modify the place it installs the Control Panel to if you want something other than C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\Control Panel\ BootOption=0 just tells it not to restart after install.. Check here for explanations of setup.iss.. and here for switches.. Once the CPanel setup.iss is replaced, hopefully a silent install using the normal method setup.exe -s -f1"<path to setup.iss>\setup.iss" will work.. Will test somehow. Gotta get and figure out VirtualPC and maybe do a clean/test install of my Unattended XP CD in a few days.. Let me know..
