is this a joke? You can currently only get Win8 via Dreamspark, MSDN, Technet or VL. In all cases you get a proper key which allows you to activate Windows. if you don't have a proper key, wait until 26th october. You can pre-order Windows 8: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008H3SW4I/

Trace Windows 7 boot/shutdown/hibernate/standby/resume issues
MagicAndre1981 replied to MagicAndre1981's topic in Windows 7
the new trace shows that Windows boots a bit faster: the main issue is still the large time needed to to start all applications at Windows logon. Try to disable all unnecessary programs .- 1,284 replies

The anti-virus you recommend installed for windows 8?
MagicAndre1981 replied to intranet's topic in Windows 8
MSE is included in WIndows8 as Windows Defender. But it sucks and slows down Windows 8 dramatically. Test Avira, AVG or Avast. -
Metro is run in isolated windowing subsystem which can be overlaid only on top of everything, you wouldn't want such gadgets this is ok. I don't have other icons on the right side of the screen. There can be a large metro panel with 3 -4 Live tiles I need (mail, message, weather). this really sucks so much. I can't wait to see this in later versions of the tool Install VS, SQLServer and Delphi and the screen is full of useless entries.

Trace Windows 7 boot/shutdown/hibernate/standby/resume issues
MagicAndre1981 replied to MagicAndre1981's topic in Windows 7
ok, Remove Spybot search and Destroy, disable Defender (go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Defender set and DisableAntiSpyware to 1) and restore the original host file and make a new trace (with the stackwalk option)- 1,284 replies

I found an issue. Selecting that the admin tools should be shown has no effect. The startmenu doesn't show it:

I think it is better to buy a motherboard with 850 southbridge which supports 6Gb SATA.
-
I've already figured this out. I'll test it now a bit while testing our apps in Windows 8.

I have an "index out of bonds" error in the config app when I uncheck the options for the metro UI setting: ok, got it: that was the cause. Btw, can you implement that several live tiles can be shown on the desktop (with configurable location)? it would be nice to have the live tiles as gadgets replacements on the right side of my monitor.

Error code 0x8004ff1 When Installing Microsoft Security Essentials
MagicAndre1981 replied to bookie32's topic in Windows 7
Try this: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/i-cant-install-microsoft-security-essentials -
yes, the TCPip.sys is the cause: it generates this huge latency. I can see that the Rt64win7.sys is involved and this is the driver for your Realtek® 8112L Gigabit LAN controller. The driver version is from 2011 (7.046.0610.2011). Try the latest version: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=13&PFid=5&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

Trace Windows 7 boot/shutdown/hibernate/standby/resume issues
MagicAndre1981 replied to MagicAndre1981's topic in Windows 7
Windwos still takes over 67s to boot to the desktop. I can see that the DNS client service reads the host file into a cache and this generate a heavy CPU usage (dnsrslvr.dll!LoadHostFileIntoCache and dnsrslvr.dll!Cache_RecordSetAtomic). Do you use the host file to as ad blocker? How large is the host files? Also the trace still shows MSE/defender as cause of a high HDD utilization.- 1,284 replies

Trace Windows 7 boot/shutdown/hibernate/standby/resume issues
MagicAndre1981 replied to MagicAndre1981's topic in Windows 7
-stackwalk profile captures the callstack. this is helpful to see which function of the DNS service causes the CPU usage. The -1 is shown when Windows was still busy with running all startup applications when the trace was finished. Try AVG or AntiVir as alternative.- 1,284 replies

Trace Windows 7 boot/shutdown/hibernate/standby/resume issues
MagicAndre1981 replied to MagicAndre1981's topic in Windows 7
Now your Windows boots in 66s to the desktop. It doesn't show the time when all startup apps are loaded: <timing bootDoneViaExplorer="66092" bootDoneViaPostBoot="-1" What I can see is that your HDD is busy all the time. When I checked what causes the issue I can see that Defender/MSE causes a lot of disk activity. I always had this issue with MSE, so I don't use it any longer. I can also see that the DNS client service causes some high cpu usage. Add -stackwalk profile after -trace flags to the command and give me the new file.- 1,284 replies
