  1. PreSMSS is explained in the first post. here all drivers are loaded and the devices are started. Try to use the Marvell chip, too. Play a bit with combinations of connecting devices to Intel and Marvell. Does this make a difference? Yes, your USB drive also slows down boot. So try to connect it to a different uSB port or attach it after boot.
  2. I googled and found users back at this time who also had the issue. I have to search my Vista RTM x86 ISO first to get the RTM files and next I'll look at the Sp2 files.
  3. turn off the Hybrid mode: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/disable-hybrid-sleep-mode/ Does this solve it?
  4. ok, your Windows takes 23s to boot to the desktop and 25s to boot completely: <timing bootDoneViaExplorer="23344" bootDoneViaPostBoot="35044" The PreSMSS phase takes too long (10s): <interval name="PreSMSS" startTime="0" endTime="10429" duration="10429"> I can see that the driver for the Intel SATA controller takes too long to load (4s) and scaning for the attached devices also takes too log Which IDE devices do you still use?
  5. I think this has something to to how the USB ports are handled by the board. But nice to hear you fixed it
  6. also if you watch the Surface Video you see that Ballmer and Sinofsky have charisma of a mummified bread. Ballmer looks like a bear from a circus when he walks on stage and Sinofsky crys all the time to loud Simply look how Mark Russinovich presents things in videos. He has a great charisma and it always makes fun to watch them
  7. xbootmgr only shows why it it slow, not why it sometimes doesn't work.
  8. try to connect the mouse and keyboard to a different USB port. Does this make a difference?
  9. I also noticed this when watching the keynote
  10. this is the IPv6 Helper service which provides IPv6 over IPv4 networks. So install the Sp1 for Windows 7 which includes a lot of fixes, maybe your issue is also gone. If the issue is not gone and if you don't need this service, stop the service.
  11. What do you mean by uncheck the imhost file usage? looked everything in control panel under network and internet and didnt find any place where there was a place to check file usage uncheck NetBIOS over TCPIP.
  12. yes, this is what I want you to do.
  13. So you have Audio and uSB issues. Which USB devices do you use? Does the USB controller share the IRQ with the soundchip?
  14. uncheck the lmhost file usage in the network options of your NIC.
  15. you can see hotfixes when the description starts with "fixes an issue ..."
  16. The powerplan settings allow you to set a cpu cooler policy. Make sure it is set to "active" and NOT "passive".
  17. run this command and do you normal work: xperf -on latency -stackwalk profile -buffersize 1024 -MaxFile 256 -FileMode Circular && timeout -1 && xperf -d DPC_Interrupt.etl after you got an glitch, go back to the command prompt and stop it. The -MaxFile 256 -FileMode Circular options limit the size to 256MB. So you can run it longer without generating a large file.
  18. also run the xperf commands and give me the file.
  19. I hope this, too. Has chkdsk fixed the issue?
  20. Yes. DON't do this! Close LatencyMon before running the xperf trace.
  21. *lol* Very clean desktop
  22. yes, this is why I hate Metro so much.
  23. Look how Mark Russinovich has issues to use Windows 8 at TechEd Demo: http://channel9.msdn.com/Events/TechEd/NorthAmerica/2012/SIA302
