  1. haven't heard of it, and im almost 100% disgusted with D Link. i have a DI-614+ running my wireless and wired at 11.0Mb/s wireless, 100Mb/s wireless. the DI-624 that i have supports 100Mb/s wired, 54.0Mb/s wireless for about 2 minutes. then i loose wireless...its a defective router, theres no way to fix it.
  2. is it going to be for video editing alone, or video and audio? either way, 2 gigs of ram will hardly do good for you, the tech director at my school just got a mac G5 with 4 gigs of ram for video editing, a 250GB SATA, and dual DVI out, im pretty sure his audio comes from USB, and thats strictly for video editing. it also depends on your program of choice...but as for sound, theres no 'best' system for sound, just more speakers in one than the other. i have two polk audio unpowered speakers on my desk and i do audio editing and get everything i need from it. just stick with the setup you have, unless you've got 7.1 sound [the only exception i accept] and you plan on having dolby 7.1 surround sound [which i have upstairs] and soon to have a computer up there.
  3. if you want to delete server, and extend XP, just get a partitioning software that can manage allpartitions without a problem. swissknife isn't one that can do this, although partition magic can.
  4. i use the Cole 2k Media Pack, decodes DVDs, and whatever else i may need
  5. well, i don't want to boot of the CD drive, it'll be running the XP Pro HDD i have in my computer at home, i'll turn that PC into a spare, take out the RAM and give it all to the dual socket. i'll see if i can update my bios when i get home, but im not sure why it wouldn't recognize the drive at all. it was like it was trying to boot off of it, but it failed to boot from it, saying that it was not supported, or couldnt recognize the bios, something like that. i'll try it tonight.
  6. ok, i have a Promise Technology ATA/66 Ultra IDE extender, and i was wondering how i could add more hard drives with it. i tried having a second strand of hard drives, but just a master, and when i booted, it said Operating System not found. is there something i have to do to make it so that i could use the card to its full potential, and be able to have 4 HDD's out of it? at the moment, i just plan on running the HDD's off of onboard IDE 1 & 2, and have the DVD+RW drive on the Ultra66, but if i wanted to add 2 more hard drives, how could i do that?
  7. you have to close nero first, i've had the problem myself
  8. not all of them do...on my board it recognized what i wanted the main VGA output to be, but it still extended my screen...it took a little time in Properties, but it can be easily fixed by unchecking "extend my moniter to this" or whatever it says.
  9. if you don't close nero, you wont be able to eject it. not even through My Computer.
  10. i've got Partition magic 8.0, i even used it to fix my hard drive that i almost lost...but now i have no use for it, as im running XP Pro right now. no need for home. oh well, i have to give my sister a 40 gig anyway, i guess i'll give her the maxtor
  11. what program are you using to burn the stuff with?
  12. have the two intake fans right next to each other, then one exhaust fan behind the processor where a lot of heat would be, and another maybe above/around the graphics card where it isn't likely to get as hot...cool air would still build up, because you'd be expelling a lot of hot air thats not moving anyway.
  13. just check the leads for the power button. my oldest power button had a problem because the wires were resting on a card, melted right through when i left this on overnight one time a long while ago...ever since i've tied my cables. drives my dad nuts, but i don't want to loose a button again, its hard to fix them.
  14. well, yea, thats good too, i only say 2 in 2 out because if you put them in seperate areas, its like having 3 in 1 out, but depending on where they are of course. this PC just has one out and one for the CPU. works well for how i need it to.
  15. TD8034H 80mm 0.75A 5700RPM 84 CFM 70.4 dB thats like a honda civic reving on your desk for as long as the things on. but its a good fan. i just run a 3800RPM 120mm case fan from the dump. not about being good or looking good, but about getting the air out. just find a few cheap 120mm case fans that run between 3800 and 4300RPM, you don't really need to simulate a hurricane cooling it, just get the air out. but also keep in mind how many fan controllers are on your motherboard. i ran into that problem with this computer having only 2. one for the CPU fan, the other for the case fan. as long as you can take it, just get 3 or 4 120mm fans, 2 blow in, 2 blow out, but don't keep them all in the same area, spread the cooling around.
  16. 2/3 is better than 2/3 with some issues. i'll say the vantech. $1 isn't the end of the world, just pick up spare change.
  17. the air going in was the equivelent of an asthmatic breathing through a straw. there was a scoop that went over the CPU fan, which is just 4500RPM, 60mm...not the greatest for intake. there are vents on the front of the case for air to get in, so i'm hardly worried about it blowing out too much air. i also fitted it with cables i customized. i took 40 wire flat cables for hard drives, and made slits every 8 wires, then took wire ties and bound it together, optical drives, hard drive, and even the floppy. thats helping keep the temp way down, they aren't wide enough to trap heat anymore, which is something i'm proud of. the case is pretty small, so there was no worries about them not reaching. i just checked the thermometer, it says barely over 50 degrees celcius.
  18. i'll say the one in the middle, only because the Sabrent one seems a little cheap for what it is...like buying an Acer laptop...seems like a good deal, but thats only on the reciept...once you get it running the problems arise.
  19. im about to put a thermometer in the case, i'll put it on one of the HDD mounts, i'll check it before i go to bed, we'll see how hot it is, but it really can't be much more than 75...i took out the slave drive because i'm finished backing it up....later i'll swap DVD drives, but i'll let that wait.
  20. ok, i've got an HP 7915 desktop PC, and i did a mod to it yesterday, i was wondering what you all thought i took out the annoying plastic fan scoop, and put a 120mm fan where it was. i took out the base and all, the fan went right where that was. i don't have the fan mounted perfectly straight, but its all going out. being as i don't have a way to test the temperature being as my board is not supported. when you opened the case before after 3 hours of running, it would be at least 90 degrees in the case, now its room temperature, which is just about 72.2 degrees [by a thermometer on a clock]. the case feels a little warm, but i do have 2 HDD's in it [because i needed to back stuff up before reformatting the drive]. in doing that, im not causing a problem with hardware by cooling it off so much, i don't think i am, but its worth asking.
  21. i use WPM10 for ripping and burning and also DVD playback and Winamp as my main music player, better for my computer, it doesn't really get along with WMP very well.
  22. i modded my case earlier, took out my fan scoop, added a case fan, and put in a bunch of bound cables...theres so much extra space in it, you wouldn't believe it. hopefully i can put in the other case fan soon under the HDD's to cool them off, i want to lower that case temp by a lot so its more efficient for the editing i do.
  23. i go to the dump today i got a few fans, 3 sound cards 512MB of RAM [be jealous] and next week someone will give me a few SCSI drives because he doesn't have a single use for them, and i need space in terms of GB for music editing [which i do frequently]
  24. you know, i had similar problems like that with an old graphics card. how old is your system? if its old, it may just be dying. if its 7+ years old, replace the battery on the motherboard. also check all cables to make sure they're seated, nothings touching something it shouldn't be, etc and so forth.
  25. alrighty, i'll look into it once i fix my XP drive...which is a handful...a big one. i deleted linux and the grub boot loader now says error 22 on boot, so i need to find a way to get rid of that because i don't want to reinstall linux. i've got the drive in as a slave now, and i can go into everything, open documents and back stuff up if i need to....thats one thing i like about vista...passworded OS's just get bypassed when you put them in as a slave in vista.
