  1. FYI, M$ rerolled the file. It is now dated today. I don't know what the differences are. It is the same url as listed above though.
  2. Where do you save the files in the wim? The information I used previously didn't seem to work..
  3. One should point out that it probably isn't a smart idea to put a valid product key in this site. While Neon may have the best intentions, the information is unencrypted, and without seeing the source, Neon could be recording them. While I am guessing he is a great guy, and isn't, the unencrypted part is a problem that can not be dealt with, unless neon sets up a https site. It would probably be smart to use a key of "abc12" in each field or some such, then when you save his xml file use a text editor to change it to a valid key. Edit: No offense or anything intended..
  4. This is a little late.. but since it seems to be asked a couple times in this thread, and I didn't see an answer.. The only Negative is that it doesn't do a full format, it only formats the MBR/leading tracks. What this would mean, is if you have a bad HDD, you may not notice it right away. At least with my business the failure of a new HDD is so rare that this is a non issue.
  5. Assuming you have a vista install already, mount the winpe wim, and copy findstr.exe from your vista install to the system32 directory in the wim. iirc findstr lives in \windows\system32.
  6. http://www.afp548.com/article.php?story=20061220102102611 I can confirm the I386 works, although early testing with ppc seems to fail. Enjoy!
  7. From a recent M$ post... I haven't tested it yet, but I hope it helps.. "The basic process is as follows: 1) On the technican system, mount the offline wim image to a temp folder using imagex imagex /mountrw c:\CustomWim\CustomImage.wim 1 c:\Mount_Point 2) Obtain the Vista updates and put them into another temporary Updates folder. All Vista updates should be .MSU files 3) Use the Expand command to get to the .cab files within the .MSU update files. example: expand c:\Updates\KB123456.msu c:\Updates /f:* Several files will be extracted. We are only concerned with the specific xxxKB123456-xxx.cab file (name will vary). Delete or ignore the WSUSSCAN.cab, .xml's, and any other files extracted. 4) Create a temporary sandbox folder. md c:\Sandbox 5) use Package Manager to inject the update to the offline image. Start /w pkgmgr.exe /o:"c:\Mount_Point;c:\Mount_Point\Windows" /ip /m:c:\\Updates\xxxKB123456-xxx.cab /s:c:\Sandbox 6) Confirm the install by echoing the errorlevel. It should be Zero. Echo %errorlevel% 7 ) If running multiple package manager passes, empty the sandbox folder after each pass. rd /s /q c:\Sandbox 8 ) Unmount the offline image. (If at any time you make a mistake, just umount the .wim image, *without* committing the changes to undo everything and start over) imagex /unmount /commit c:\Mount_Point If you are installing multiple updates at the same time, repeat steps 3-7 for each update prior to unmounting the wim. When running multple Package Manager installs it is important that the temporary Sandbox folder be empty each time, otherwise temp files from previous installs are mixed into each Package Manager install pass. 8. fly2279: it sounds like you are a system builder? try registering at http://oem.microsoft.com, from there you can download the windows xp preinstall kit. this will help you with what you are trying to do. what you are looking for is actually a preinstallation of the OS, and then run sysprep to bring the machine back to windows welcome. If for some reason you can't sign up with m$, then there is still hope. Follow the directions on this site to create an unattended install of windows that install your drivers and programs, and search microsofts site for sysprep. download sysprep and use it to reseal the machine. Hope this helps..
  9. I am using your oemscan.ini with no modifications. no I am not using any modifications to the system. how would I figure out the crash address? the only thing special over a standard OEM install, is call a batch file to install windows updates. but I have tried with those disabled as well, and I think I stated before that it's been working perfectly, other then these few machines.
  10. xehqter, first let me say thank you for your work on OEMScan, it has been extremely helpful to me. I am having a problem with oemscan v1.3 crashing on some machines. the hardware seems to be good, and passes my other diagnostics. v1.21 works fine on these machines. how can we go about trouble shooting this? as far as it gets is OEMBIOS Scanner v1.3 by Jeremy (xehqter), then windows pops up with the normal send bug report message. Unfortunately these are customer machines, and I have just sent out the last one that had this problem, but I would like to be prepared for the next time it comes up.
  11. FreeStyler, I will be glad to check the crc on the files, unfortunately I got swamped at work, and will be unable to do this to this until next week. I just wanted to drop off a message to say I wasn't ignoring the request. -A
  12. FreeStyler, Sorry somehow I must have missed that. Bezalel, thanks, I actually just got a working set about 5 minutes ago. For some reason the oembios files i copied off of another Inspiron 5100 (with bios rev) did not work. I got a fresh copy from another computer, and now it is working perfectly. I think i remember seeing FreeStyler? talking about old oembios's being invalidated with sp2 or some such, maybe that was the problem here. anyways thanks again, and keep up the good work.
  13. Bezalel, I am not trying to pirate, just test my cd without having to burn a bunch of cds. I was attempting to do the same thing as FreeStyle. I didn't just add the string randomly, i replaced a current string. But besides that, you must have missed the part where I said i tried it on a Dell Computer, and Inspiron 5100 to be exact. and it fails with the exact same problem, which is why i started working on vmware. so does the MGADiag tool show anything useful to you guys that may be able to point me in the right direction? originally i used regular oem media, with the slp key/oembios files, and then I was able to get my hands on a Dell XP Home SP1 cd, that had the correct OEMBIOS files/ original winnt.sif and $OEM$ directory, etc. I slipstreamed that to sp2. (I have not tried the original yet, to see if that would work).
  14. I need some help. I have read all the pages on this thread, plus the other thread for making a CD. I have tried the automatic script in cmdlines, and I have also taken a Dell Original Disk (sp1), slipstreamed to Sp2. (with confirmed SLP Key, and OEMBIOS files). Everything seems to work great, up to the point of WGA, WGA says the machine needs to be activated. the MGADiag tool says the same. It recongizes it as an OEM SLP, etc but I can not seem to get past the activation requirement. Windows itself does not seem to care about activation and seems to be content, until I run the MGAGiag tool, then it pops up the activation wizard, otherwise it never seems to show up. ---MGADiag Report --- Diagnostic Report (1.5.0540.0): ----------------------------------------- WGA Data--> Genuine Validation Status: Not Activated Windows Product Key: *****-*****-GD6GR-K6DP3-4C8MT Windows Product Key Hash: s2kt66ZJWfV4nS1wFD5F9bxTSDw= Windows Product ID: 55277-OEM-2111907-00102 Windows Product ID Type: 2 Windows License Type: OEM SLP Windows OS version: 5.1.2600.2.00010300.2.0.hom Download Center code: 8KYN7N4 ID: 24535767-cd68-4b7a-af27-dfc534066361 Is Admin: Yes AutoDial: Registry: 0x0 WGA Version: Registered, 1.5.530.0 Signature Type: Microsoft Validation Diagnostic: System Scan Data--> Scan: Complete Cryptography: Complete Notifications Data--> Cached Result: N/A Cache refresh Interval: N/A Extended notification delay(non-genuine): N/A Extended notification delay(un-activated): N/A All disabled: N/A Reminder reduced: N/A File Exists: No Version: N/A Signatue Type: N/A OGA Data--> Office Status: 109 Office Diagnostics: B4D0AA8B-467-80070002 Browser Data--> Proxy settings: N/A User Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Win32) Default Browser: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe Download signed ActiveX controls: Prompt Download unsigned ActiveX controls: Disabled Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins: Allowed Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe: Disabled Allow scripting of Internet Explorer Webbrowser control: Disabled Active scripting: Allowed Script ActiveX controls marked as safe for scripting: Allowed File Scan Data--> Other data--> Office Details: <GenuineResults><MachineData><UGUID>24535767-cd68-4b7a-af27-dfc534066361</UGUID><Version>1.5.0540.0</Version><OS>5.1.2600.2.00010300.2.0.hom</OS><PKey>*****-*****-*****-*****-4C8MT</PKey><PID>55277-OEM-2111907-00102</PID><PIDType>2</PIDType><SID>S-1-5-21-1708537768-484763869-725345543</SID><SYSTEM><Manufacturer>Dell System</Manufacturer><Model>VMware Virtual Platform</Model></SYSTEM><BIOS><Manufacturer>Phoenix Technologies LTD</Manufacturer><Version>6.00</Version><SMBIOSVersion major="2" minor="31"/><Date>20050729000000.000000+000</Date><SLPBIOS>Dell System,Dell Computer,Dell System,Dell System</SLPBIOS></BIOS><HWID>764435070184166D</HWID><UserLCID>0409</UserLCID><SystemLCID>0409</SystemLCID><TimeZone>Pacific Standard Time(GMT-08:00)</TimeZone></MachineData> <Software><Office><Result>109</Result><Products/></Office></Software></GenuineResults> --- Any tips?
