  1. LADIES! Please do not post your tweaks in here if they go for more than 40 lines. Instead, please save it into a .reg file, and put it into a .zip or .rar file, and have it hosted externally and link to it, OR USE THE DAMNED FILE ATTACHMENT TOOL! Thank you. Saves us from having to scroll through 500+ lines of text.
  2. Express updates cannot be integrated using the /integrate switch.
  3. Ah. The sweet sweet joy that is alpha software.
  4. Sweet Thanks so much.
  5. Ai, I do mean status bar in Windows Explorer. I had also tried it on a SP1 machine, and it didn't work. I'm assuming its just related to SP2.
  6. No, I'm not on broadband, but I always connect to the internet to do my installations. I've just never had a successful auto activation. My network card is auto-detected by Windows XP, and the proper drivers are installed, the IP on the card is obtained by DHCP (which works fine). As far as I know, I shouldn't have a problem with it, but autoactivate never works (I don't have oobe disabled, but to be honest, I don't think that that should stop it from working).
  7. It's been a long and difficult process for many, and quite often we've all thought we found it, but in the end, it just didn't work (and I'm hoping I've found it this time). Here it is. The real status bar enabled tweak in Windows XP Pro! (tested on SP2 RC1). Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 ;Enable status bar in Windows Explorer[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]"StatusBarOther"=dword:00000001 ;sets view style to details[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Streams]"Settings"=hex:08,00,00,00,04,00,00,00,01,00,00,00,00,77,7e,13,73,35,cf,11,ae,\ 69,08,00,2b,2e,12,62,04,00,00,00,01,00,00,00,43,00,00,00 ;Enables status bar in Explorer[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Streams\Defaults]"{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}"=hex:1c,00,00,00,03,00,00,00,00,00,00,\ 00,00,00,9a,00,00,00,00,00,01,00,00,00,ff,ff,ff,ff,f0,f0,f0,f0,14,00,03,00,\ 9a,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,30,00,00,00,fd,df,df,fd,0f,00,05,00,24,00,10,00,2e,\ 00,46,00,00,00,00,00,01,00,00,00,02,00,00,00,03,00,00,00,04,00,00,00,78,00,\ 96,00,60,00,60,00,78,00,00,00,00,00,01,00,00,00,02,00,00,00,03,00,00,00,05,\ 00,00,00,ff,ff,ff,ff,cf,f3,a8,b0,33,43,ab,4b,88,73,1c,cb,1c,ad,a4,8b,30,f1,\ 25,b7,ef,47,1a,10,a5,f1,02,60,8c,9e,eb,ac,04,00,00,00I have confirmed this on my own machine with a Virtual PC 2004 installation, however, to really make sure this is true, could a few other people please check it out too? Cheers
  8. Try this link: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=18540
  9. Yourtech: Yes, tis a nice arse, but its not mine, and I have nfi who's it is
  10. The problem with this method, is that it requires a certain element to be the same on your system, that is, the hard drive volume ID of the system drive must always be the same. I have tried many times without success to integrate the wpa.dbl file into the unattended cd, but it would never work because the volume ID of the hard drive changes each time you delete the partition/s and re-create it. The only way to bypass this, is to use a third party tool to change the volume ID on the hdd back, but this will only work after you've installed Windows XP, and only after a reboot. To be honest, its not worth the time and hassle of doing this, when its just as easy (and ok) to activate your copy either automatically with a batch file (there is a tool in the support folder that will do this for you), or using AutoActivate=Yes in the winnt.sif file (read ref.chm, I've never got this method to work though). I can't count for other people's experiences, but I have installed XP Pro on this system over 300 times in the last 9 months, and without fail, I've activated it succesfully each time.
  11. I've noticed that a lot of people post the contents of their registry tweaks, and batch files, winnt.sif files, etc, in their thread. Whilst I can understand that you wish to share your discoveries with us, or want to ask questions regarding errors, and so forth, it can be quite annoying to have to scroll down through a thread that has 500+ lines per post. In the future, please try and use the file attachments feature of the forums, or use a web host (geocities is free, so are many others out there) to store the files in question, instead of posting their contents onto the forums. This saves us having to scroll through 500+lines per post in order to read the entire thread. Cheers.
  12. This was the method that all pre SP2 hotfixes had to be integrated/slipstreamed by (according to Microsoft). However, there are some alternatives, but this was one of the more "tidier" methods. I'm glad to see they're making integration a whole lot easier.
  13. I'm pretty sure it could be done using a vbscript, but I'm not fond of those.
  14. Well I guess my operating system must be trying to trick me. Yes, I have scanned the registry for any changes, but the results were not usefull at all. I've also tried google and kellys-corner, but that was like walking through semi-dry cement.
  15. Just wondering if anyone out there has managed to find an automated way to disable system restore on one disk, in a two disk system (ie, disable on d:, but not on c:). I wish to do this to my secondary disk, cheers.
  16. Here's one I found, that may be usefull to some people... You can disable the OS2 Posix / Posix subsystems that gets run by Windows by removing the following entries from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\SubSystems Delete these entries: Optional Posix This requires a reboot. Personally, I'm not entirely sure what else it will affect in Windows, but I'm trying it out anyway
  17. It seems someone over at theregister.co.uk has gotten their panties in a knot (or excited)... http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/53/36500.html The Service Pack will also add a pop-up ad blocker to Internet Explorer - the most requested feature according to Rebecca Norlander, Microsoft's group manager for XP SP2 - and a download manager. Norlander said that pop-ups are increasingly used to "dribble" spy ware onto users' machines. Giving users granular control over whether they accept pop-up or ActiveX controls from particular sites is therefore a significant security improvement to IE. I haven't seen any indications one is available in RC1 (build 2096), and I'm fairly certain that Microsoft were going to leave that for the Longhorn IE builds. Does anyone have contrary evidence?
  18. Fully Sick. I'll have to check out my little configurations (I have mine set to open to the "Unread Mail" search folder, because I have rulesets applied, I like to still read my mail from the one spot). Oh, can this be applied before Office is installed? Muchios appreciatos!
  19. XtremeMaC: If you find a reg tweak that forces Office to start up using a particular folder (ie, "Sent Items" instead of "Inbox") post it here
  20. Have you tried using the OEMPNPDRIVERS option in winnt.sif? http://unattended.msfn.org/xp/drivers.htm < this goes into great detail about it.
  21. A little slow there Mac
  22. You could try saving it as BLISS.JPG, and then makecab it (makecab BLISS.JPG) and then copy+paste it into the i386 directory (and replace the bliss.jpg file that is already there). You could do the same for the screensaver. Alternatively, you could make your own theme, and specify that in the winnt.sif file. A quick search should reveal how to do this
  23. Flaming? Hardly.... 7.a You are expected to be mature when discussing in threads. Racism, pornography, threatening, profanity, or excessive vulgarity is not tolerated. You will be promptly banned. No Exceptions. I would hardly call my post "immature", and I'm certainly not doing anything in this thread that falls into that category. 7.b This community is built upon mutual respect. You are not allowed to flame other members. People who do not respect personal opinions and/or personal work will be warned in first instance. If you ignore the warning and keep on flaming, you will be banned without notice. So I take it that telling someone that it was completely unecessary to repost something which had been in the news section of the website for over one day is flaming? I have neither attacked this person nor have I abused him/her. I would hardly consider telling someone that there is no need to post something which is already available on the news page a "flame". I neither retract nor apologise for any statements I make on MSFN or other forums.
