  1. what is available is ok for me but too bad no one seemed to bother making last 7.x (7.0.9) version (lite extreme). only see 7.0.8 which has a security vulnerability. is AR8 better than AR7 (faster etc)?
  2. what are (filenames) these Microsoft Runtime libraries in question missing from lite extreme (so I can check beforehand if I already got them)? And are they available as separate d/l from MS (distributable)?
  3. hi! I'm looking for AR *micro* or lite exteme (not merely lite) versions of latest 7.x (7.09 or later if exists) and 8.x (8.11). Any leads, please? I tried searching the forum but no luck. The smaller and less bloated, the better.
  4. hi again, this time I'm looking for Adobe Reader 7.0.9 lite/micro. Has anyone created it?
  5. > it has no runtime libraries does it mean I have to have these 3 dlls and copy them to AR8 dir (or system32 if I want them to be "visible" for other apps, too) or else AR8 won't even work/start? Does AR ~actually~ need ALL these .dll to function? ps WXP SP2 doesn't have these 3 dlls by default, does it?
  6. thanks for the opinion - anyone else? what are the diffs between Windows Media Lite 2.4.0 and WMLite10 2.1.0.2?
  7. anyone knows of any other side effects (of disabling it)?
  8. btw: how to enable Real Media streaming in browser(s) in the least obtrusive way? I also need it.
  9. What I had removed with nLite (have XP /w SP2): - Windows Media Player, both 6.4 and 9 - ActiveX control for streaming - disabled option to keep WMP compatibility What I need: - be able to play WM based stream in at least 1 of these browsers (removed IE itself but I'm using Maxthon/Opera/Firefox). - be able to open .wmv files from local hard disk How to accomplish this without re-making new image with nLite and without OS reinstalling? So far I found these options: - Windows Media Lite 2.4.0: [ http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Windows_Media_Lite.htm ] [ http://www.codecguide.com/download_other.htm ] and - Windows Media - WMLite10 2.1.0.2 - WMLite 2.1.0+ Setup ini file [ http://ksphere.free.fr/site/codecspackage.php ] They seem to be able to get the job done, but I'm not sure (it's not mentioned anywhere) if they work (will be able to play streams in a browser) in case where "ActiveX control for streaming" got removed (can it be restored post-install somehow if needed?). So which one to choose (from the 3 mentioned above) and install in my particular case? Maybe there's also something else I don't know of? TIA!
  10. @Shark007: could you make AR 8.0 EN "even-more-like", similar to one made for 7.0.8 by Vid0 here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...p;p=513735& (compare yours AR 7.0.8 Lite and his - his has even less files/features left yet works ok for me. His is 6.25MB, yours is 7.95MB - please compare files inside both installer - his has fewer files). TIA! ps there's also 7.0.8a out - I'd appreciate Lite version of it, too (Vid0 style prefereably - with the same file choice).
  11. thanks for the link! also found this: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...p;p=513735& there are 2 versions of 7.0.8 there: 1st by Shark007 (same as in your link) and 2nd by Vid0, which is smaller than Shark007's. Anyone knows what's the difference between them and which one to use?
  12. and if not, could anyone make one, please? Currently I have: Adobe Acrobat Reader Lite 7.0.5 nLite add-on (File name: nLiteOn_Adobe.cab ; size: 6.11 MB) but it's made in Jan 2006 or even older, and I'm looking for 7.0.8 counterpart. Note: I'm NOT talking about FULL Adobe Reader 7.0.8 add-on which would probably be 2x MB but lite/micro version. ps if not nLite add-on, then maybe someone knows of exisisting AR 7.0.8 lite/micro version which I could use post Windows install for example? thanks!
  13. > Deificient power supply PSU is very good - much more than sufficient for my config. > the list of addons and hotfixes you added only RyanVM UP 2.1.4 - nothing more - no WMP, no IE7 etc. Drivers: same as since years (graphics card: Nvidia reference drivers, NIC - Realtek drivers, sound card - last Hercules drivers). No betas etc. > Please use Autoruns and save a report of what you got. why from Autoruns? nothing special in autorun - only Nvidia CPL thing - as always. No strange drivers/entries etc. And how to save a report in Autoruns - can't see any option.
  14. > You have hardware problem of what kind? hdd checked - is ok RAM - ok BIOS settings - OK what else could be bad and affect it/trigger this glitch? Although I've no idea why Foxit Reader froze whole PC instead of just hanging itself and leaving the rest alone/unaffected? Could anyone explain this? System freeze with mouse pointer in BUSY state just on opening some PDF file?
  15. The horror with losing settings continues . Made and installed a brand new nLited XPSP2 CD yesterday evening (~15 hours ago), then installed a couple of basic apps (no reboots), all was fine - until I installed Foxit Reader 2.0 (~12 hours since Windows install) and immediately opened a .pdf in it. On .pdf open attempt system froze, and I had to reset using reset button on case, after boot and login I noticed: - Total Commander lost all my settings, behaved as if running for 1st time (showed options dialog), all settings are at defaults. - Windows Explorer lost my changed settings in tools/folder options/view - Irfanview lost all file associations set by me - Winrar lost all settings and file associations and setting - behaved as if running for the 1st time - Utorrent lost it .torrent file association (default .torrent file opener/handler) - on 1st run after freeze it asked if associate with .torrent files - as if being run for the 1st time - probably lost settings in Control Panel/Internet Options as well - Windows start menu (I use classic) lost my changed setting to use small icons in SM - reverted to default big icons - had to change it again - quick launch bar was gone from taskbar - had to re-enable it (toolbars/quick launch) - was enabled and visible before freeze - Opera preserved its settings (didn't look everywhere) it seems - Add or Remove Programs is empty - doesn't show any of the above apps installed by me. Corresponding reg key: [ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall ] doesn't have entries for these apps as well (they're gone!) - probably many other things not mentioned above got completely lost - basicly all my configuration work after install. Can anyone tell me what is going on here and how to prevent it from happening? Looks like there is something wrong with registry writes or it gets corrupted on BSODs/freezes/power outages etc - losing all stored settings (just my guess). @nuhi: PLEASE investigate it as it's one maddening bug/glitch.
  16. > Would you mind taking a screenshot ? Camarade_Tux, here are 2 example screenshots of it "in action". Please note that most of the time I CAN'T see these tooltips (even partially occluded) AT ALL. I haven't worked out yet on what depends whether they appear or not. They might appeatr like in screens attached, and 1 minute later they don't appear at all (on mouse over of course).
  17. Now when I'm thinking of it, it could be relatively easy to test: - make nLited CD and install (obvious) - install Flashget, Raxco DiskState (another app I've noticed lost all settings), install latest OpenOffice.org, run IE6 once, go to Google, fill search form, perform search (IE will ask about autocomplete and sending forms over non-secured connection). Configure Flashget, DiskState, OOo - change a few settings. - close FG, RDS, OOo, IE6. - wait a bit, do other things (like starting new apps) - after say 5 or 10 minutes (or maybe more - to be discussed) pull out power plug OR, if you know of an app which causes fast/certain BSOD i.e some incompatible software - maybe even try Sysinternals Process Monitor 1.0 if it BSODs for you, too - run such an app to invoke BSOD. - (re)start computer - start above mentioned apps like FG, RDS, OOo, IE6 (go to Google again etc) - and check whether they behave as if being run for the 1st time - that is - lost/forgot all the settings you had changed it them previously. OOo main apps like Writer etc probably won't even start from shortcuts saying OOo is not installed; you also won't be able to uninstall OOo for same reason (its installer thinks OOo is not installed at all) - like in my case. Then: try the same above on normal Windows installation (non nLited). See if it keeps apps' settings under same conditions. I'm talking about XPSP2 all the time.
  18. > why dont u post alll your issues in one post and also attach your preset? sorry but I gathered these issues not at all once but over the course of a few days at least - some are about observations spanned over 1 year. Besides I wouldn't have force and patience needed to write all this at once (not mentioning lack of time - I post them when I recall about something and got a few minutes to post). Again, sorry for that flooding, and additionally I've noticed that nuhi was absent from forum at the time when I was posting most of these posts, and when I bumped one, he now answered so I assumed that he doesn't read these post buried a few pages, and I didn't want these issues to be lost and posted for nothing (all effort gone as dev didn't read it). Hope you and nuhi will understand it. I had ~1 year break from making new CDs with nLite and now when I finally came back to it, lots of issues arose - and I couldn't just dose them because I'd forget all soon. Hope that explains my numerous posts . I promise that it's 1 time affair - not going to flood any more (well, maybe in 1 or 2 years).
  19. Camarade_Tux: thanks, had no idea MBSA needs needs so many deps (which I'm missing ofc). Will check out HFNetChk, then. Thanks for the tip.
  20. thanks for the explanation - will leave it, then.
