  1. I mean when I mouse over given icon. Which option in nLite (registry entry) is responsible for displaying them? Ask because I lost them (they don't display ATM ) and I'm pretty sure that I've had/seen them right after nLited OS install. Now they're suddenly gone - how to restore them? In the meantime I used MS TweakUI for XP (2.10) and changed a few options there (don't remember which ones now). I suspect this could be the culprit. So bonus Q is: which option in TweakUI is responsible for it as well?
  2. Do I miss something? Can it be entered at all in 1.2.1? Organization is also in a strange, hard to spot place (in user accounts). Re user accounts, there's a cosmestic bug there as well: built-in in Guest accounts shows as belonging to Users groups, not Guests.
  3. in OS Options. I wonder whether to remove it or not. Description only mentions "antivirus and other apps"? Any specific examples which app depend on it and what gets broken if FSFM is not installed and running? Also, which file(s) are behind it (names)? I'd check if they are running at all on my system now (I guess it's some .sys or .dll). Do you have any good/bad experiences with removing it? TIA!
  4. > Yes, Automatic Updates service is needed. this sucks big time - why did MS introduce this stupid dependancy? EDIT: haven't seen TheTOM_SK post at the time of posting.
  5. Do I miss something or it's not possible to disable DCOM with nLite 1.2.1 any more, only unbind the protocols but leaving DCOM enabled? I checked after OS install that DCOM was enabled and had to disable it manually. Why there's no such option/tweak in nLite any more (disable DCOM)?
  6. > I removed it and then tried to install IE7 you mean (tried to) install IE7 after post-OS install OR integrating with nLite? I was just about to ask WTH AU have to do with IE7? And what are side effects of removing Logon Notification and System Event Notification IE7-wise?
  7. > I would say, that DEP is enabled, unless that line is removed manually. You are right most likely. My own observations: after manually removing /noexecute=optin and rebooting (now only /noexecute=alwaysoff is left), Process Explorer shows that DEP is disabled for all processes except "System". DEP dialog in system properties looks different now - no dot in both radio buttons there and whole dialog is disabled (haven't checked with PE before, but there was a dot in 1 radio button on DEP dialog before the manual change. So DEP was probably ON for MS OS binaries before). So it's not so cosmetic bug - it actually affects DEP status. When I have some time, I'll re-add /noexecute=optin in boot.ini (in the same place), reboot, and re-check DEP status for processes in PE.
  8. When I select keep IE7 compatibility in components to remove, 5 components are reported as hidden. 2 obvious seem IE core and IE. What are the remaining 3? Can't locate them. TIA!
  9. Anyway, fact remains that I remember doing the same stupid thing (wasn't aware of side effects you mentioned with double context menu items etc) with MS TweakUI 2.10 (changing shortcut overlay from custom to none in Explorer/Shortcut) on XPSP2 installation made with nLite 1.0 and it didn't resulted in destroyed/low-color shell icons in 16-bit desktop color mode - while on installation made with nLite 1.2.1 - it did somehow. So still , something changed in nLite code between 1.0 and 1.2.1 might have caused this incompatibility and contributed to this behaviour- might be worth looking at why it does happen now and it didn't before.
  10. wow, that reg fixed it: shell icons got back to normal look @16-bit desktop color depth - BIG thanks, r3incarnat0r .
  11. > does it really work with real network (i.e. without IP address set)? yes, it works fine with real network - i.e. after this correction/tweak DHCP can be started and PC acquires IP address and related settings (DNS servers IPs, network submask, gateway no problem). But I repeat: IMO NetBT should NOT be there as a DHCP service dependency in the 1st place - it (DHCP client) is working and always worked fine with NetBT disabled, both in normal, non-modified WXP installs and in nLited ones as well. > Do you have any Event Log messages/errors? no idea - I don't have EL at all (remove it with nLite). > Thx for the tip anyway np
  12. Basicly, all I set in nLite in options where one can set display resolution, color depth and refresh rate (in my case 1024x768, 16 bit and 85Hz) is being ignored and I end up with 800x600 @60Hz or similar. I integrate Nvidia display drivers with nLite and they install fine, after OS install I can set desired paramateres no problem (1024x768, 16 bit and 85Hz) but nLite settings don't stick. My monitor gets recognized (not just plug and play generic monitor) and is able to display what I set no problem. Same for graphics card of course. I turn option "delete drivers after install" ON (maybe that's it).
  13. I set user/organization in nLite 1.2.1 unattended section but during actual Windows setup dialog with them is empty (doesn't display them) and I have to re-enter them manually, not just ok'ing them. Mode is Unattended: provide defaults and OEM preinstall: off, so they should be there. Also, workgroup name gets set to just: "WORKGROUP" after install, instead of my name of choice. Computer name gets set correctly (my choice is preserved).
  14. nLite 1.2.1 creates value called nltide3 with data: cmd.exe /C rundll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSectionEx nLite.inf,C,,4,N in key HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce Q: is it normal/should be there? Or is it some left-over which wasn't deleted but should have been? Can I safely delete this entry manually? Or leave it alone. I didn't have this entry with install made with nLite 1.0 - now with 1.2.1 it appeared.
  15. When setting with nLite DEP to always off (/noexecute=alwaysoff) previous default entry on the same line doesn't get deleted and stays (/noexecute=optin) before /fastdetect, so there's double /noexecute entry in boot.ini on the same line. Entry set/added at the end of the line by nLite seems to take effect, so it's mainly a cosmetic issue (one has to delete 1 /noexecute entry in boot.ini manually).
  16. I've used nLite to set shortcut icon arrow to none. After Windows installation, I installed MS TweakUI for XP (2.10) - OS is XPSP2 and in its Explorer/shortcut I've seen that shortcut overlay is set to custom (why not: none?). Anyway, I've changed to to none, applied changes, Explorer reloaded icons but they switched to some low-colour mode, and now look really awful. I've tried to get back to normal icons in Explorer (desktop, quick launch area etc) but nothing helped (also deleting icon cache file). Looks like this change got stored permanently somewhere in registry. Any idea where it could be and how to get my normal icons back? All this happened in 16-bit color desktop depth, when I switch to 32-bit, shell icons look ok there but when I switch back to 16-but, they look the same awful as before (doesn't help). And I have/want to use 16-bit mode . BTW nLite and MS TweakUI for XP (2.10) seem not very compatible, aside from this icon shortcut setting (none/custom) which destroyed my icons, many other settings set by nLite seem not to be recognized by TweakUI as if they didn't get set (maybe TweakUI looks in different places in registry for these settings - only a guess). Please help me restore my icons to normal.
  17. > NLite just disables NetBIOS, I do not know if is a bug or a setting. DHCP Client service should work no matter if NetBT for connection is disabled or not. It's just unnecessary dependancy, and it always worked fine with normal Windows installation or when I used nLite 1.0 to make my install. This bug must have been introduced later into the app.
  18. not sure if it's known bug... When DHCP client service is set in nLite to auto (not sure if the bug is present with "default" as well - btw @nuhi: could you include in () what default means in services - i.e. default (manual) etc), then after Windows installation (XPSP2) this service doesn't start itself, and when attempted to start it manually via services.msc, I get error msg that service cannot be started because its dependencies aren't started. Culprit is NetBT (netBIOS over TCP/IP) when it's disabled in TCP/IP properties. Solution was for me to edit registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Dhcp value DependOnService, and remove NetBT from there (left the other two, Tcpip and Afd in place). . But this dependency on NetBT shouldn't be there in the 1st place - I always disable NetBT and 1.2.1 it was the 1st time that it affected DHCP Client such that it doesn't run. Anyone else seen this bug in 1.2.1 and could confirm (or not)? Can you folks with nLited XP install look into the above place in registry and check what you have in DependOnService (if you have NetBT listed there, in addition to Tcp and Afd)? hope that helps.
  19. schalti: I don't use BNC connector - only standard VGA on both ends. So it's not the case. Why Samsung doesn't provide signed drivers for their monitors (or at least, for this model)? Or it does but I'm just unable to find them? Is it possible to sign these drivers myself and create missing .cat file myself?
  20. I already posted this here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=46823 but it's still unresolved so I post here (was given advice to post in this section). I integrate my monitor (Samsung SM 900p+) drivers using nLite standard option (actually, there are only 2 files composing this driver: .inf and .icm) - and they don't auto install during setup and I have to install them manually when Windows install finishes. (My monitor is being recognized as Samsung SM 900IFT during setup which is plai wrong). So what's up? Why don't they install? How to work around it and make these drivers install fine? I'll add that integrated drivers for my graphics card (Nvidia, Detonators), NIC (Realtek RTL8139) and sound card (Hercules Fortissimo 2) install fine. Only monitor driver gives me problems. I use latest nLite (0.99.9 beta) and RyanVM post-SP updates package (1.2.2). OS is XP SP2. I don't use/haven't ever used any of Driver Packs (nor do I even know how to use them yet ). Btw: Is there any chance that there be will DP for monitors supporting Samsung SM900p+? Also, could such DP be used flawlessly together with nLite and RyanVM pack? As I said, I have only 2 files for my monitor: 1 .inf and 1 .icm - no .cat and I can't find anywhere drivers for my monitor which include it. Maybe lack of .cat is the problem here? Do you know where I can find "normal" drivers for my CRT - Samsung page is really awful - can't find there anything for my monitor model. Maybe (Samsung) FTP? Strange thing is that Windows itself doesn't have drivers for my monitor model - is it so rare? Maybe it would be easier to modify Windows-supplied .inf(s) for monitors and add support for my model there - would it work? (But I have no idea how to do it ). Just in case, I post whole .inf file contents here: ; File Name : sm900pp.inf ; ; This is a Setup information file for the Samsung Monitor. [version] signature="$CHICAGO$" Class=Monitor ClassGuid={4D36E96E-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} Provider=%Samsung% [ClassInstall32] AddReg=ClassAddReg32 [ClassAddReg32] HKR,,,,%MonitorClassName% HKR,,Icon,,"-1" HKR,,NoInstallClass,,1 [DestinationDirs] DefaultDestDir = 11 900pp.CopyFiles = 23 [SourceDisksNames] 1="Samsung Monitor Installation Disk",,1 [SourceDisksFiles] sm900pp.icm=1 [Manufacturer] %Samsung%=Samsung [Samsung] %900pp%=900pp.Install, Monitor\SAM4CD9 [900pp.Install] DelReg=DEL_CURRENT_REG AddReg=900pp.AddReg, 1600, DPMS CopyFiles=900pp.CopyFiles ;----------------------------------------------------- [DEL_CURRENT_REG] HKR,MODES HKR,,MaxResolution HKR,,DPMS HKR,,ICMProfile [640] HKR,,MaxResolution,,"640,480" [800] HKR,,MaxResolution,,"800,600" [1024] HKR,,MaxResolution,,"1024,768" [1280] HKR,,MaxResolution,,"1280,1024" [1600] HKR,,MaxResolution,,"1600,1200" [DPMS] HKR,,DPMS,,1 ;----------------------------------------------------- [900pp.AddReg] HKR,"MODES\1600,1200",Mode1,,"30-107,50-160,+,+" HKR,,ICMProfile,0,"sm900pp.icm" ;------------------------------------------------------ [900pp.CopyFiles] sm900pp.icm ;------------------------------------------------------ [Strings] MonitorClassName="Monitor" Samsung="Samsung" 900pp="Samsung SyncMaster 900p Plus" Can you see anything wrong in this file? Why is it ignored by Windows during setup? What would be the most simple way to make the whole thing work? This issue is probably very trivial but I've searched this forum and haven't find any solution so far . Thanks for any replies .
