INf install for graphic mode how to
devil270975 replied to webmedic's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
the reg way is easier, simply because if it is a normal reg file, nothing fancy about it at all, what could be simpler than writing a standard reg file Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx\zz110] <---This is the reg key "1"="C:\\Install\\Copy.cmd" <---This is the command, the same as a batch apart from the double slashes between directories @="Copying Files Needed For Setup" <---This is the caption seen on the screen [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx\zz120] "1"="C:\\Install\\screensaver.vbs" @="Disabling Screensaver" That is all there is to it, exactly the same as any other registry entry, the only difference being the extra caption entry though it is not neccesary i have started at zz110 for the simple fact it affects the running order less Ie: if you used zz1 zz2 zz3 the order of install would be zz1 zz10 zz11 ----zz19 zz2, so that is the reason for that, but you can use zz001 zz002 zz003 and that would install in the right order -
Sorry for being ignorant but i am not sure what version i used, i have deleted it now.

you can change the save code, change from append to output cus at the moment it adds it to the other file instead of replacing it.

WindowsUpdate method not working
devil270975 replied to chon_'s topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
oh i forgot, you can put a tick next to items that have finished, well i would rather go without the tick, and spend the 2 hours i saved not writing an inf file, ******* my girlfriend...... -
WindowsUpdate method not working
devil270975 replied to chon_'s topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
tell me again why it is the best? i am not sure, apart from looking the same and doing nothing extra, and ummmmmmmm taking 10 times longer to write, i dont see any benefit from using it, it is just some people have said it is the best way because it is their way, and the only reason people use it is because they are led to believe it is better and can do all sorts of wonderfull things it cant... -
I can't get Registry setup to work
devil270975 replied to chon_'s topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
i add my setup.reg in my cmdlines.txt batch file, that way it works on first log on -
WindowsUpdate method not working
devil270975 replied to chon_'s topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
when are you applying the reg file? it should be in your cmdlines.txt batch file, and just in case anyone is interested, you can install most programs before guirunonce using a simple batch file, YOU DONT NEED to use the inf method, allthough some would have us believe that is the only way of doing it -
teminator3, no that is fine use it as you will... as regards the 10 increment, i know, but it is advisable to use 3 digits ie:001,002,003 etc... Lee

all the reg hacks that start [HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-527237240-1606980848-1202660629-500 will not work, only on that machine, the s-************** number identifies the sid number for that person, no 2 are the same and after a format will not work, unless you save your sid cerificate

XP Enhanced Setup Beta Test
devil270975 replied to Budster's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
i am quite fluent in vb, i have not seen the code to it, but why not use a dynamic array in a seperate function and use the setup name as an enviroment argument and then just call the function, save on all that copy and pasting with no limitations, send me the code and i will look at it properly, and see if it can be optimised. i personly wouldnt use an app to do all that to decide which apps as i have only 2 machines and would like the same apps on each, so no need for an app like that, but got me thinking though, how about an app to make writing winnt.sif a doddle, with all the extra's, mmmmmmmmmm good idea, i think will get straight on with that when i have got as few days off..... ooopps didnt see your post bor3d...lol... -

How to run your setup as a user
devil270975 replied to webmedic's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
you are correct spooktray, if you add your reg entries in cmdlines.txt ie: the inf(windows update) or reg(windows update) setup method then there is no real need to put anything under [guirunonce] -
Auto create User account in unattended install
devil270975 replied to tcsdoc's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
just in case anyone is interested, the reason you dont need the reg hack is because by default the admin account is not shown on the welcome screen, so if you create a user before you get to the welcome screen then windows will not display the admin account, and as long as there is not a password assigned to the user account windows will auto login, the reason being is that you cannot create a user at the welcome screen and with only one user it is obvious you want to login so it does.... HINT::::::: If you want to login in as admin follow these steps log off press Ctrl+Alt+Del twice at the welcome screen if there is no user name present type Administrator (case sensitive) then the password you entered for the account -
if you already have got 5.5 your serial should work with any version 5

Now me and webmedic could argue about this all day, he found the inf way and i found the reg way it all depends on what you want for good looks and simplicity use the reg way for advanced instalation ie: install programs before runonceEX use the inf way, allthough you can install programs using a batch with the cmdlines.txt the inf method is probably more stable, so the choice is yours simplicity or greater control????? they both look the same

How to run your setup as a user
devil270975 replied to webmedic's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE twisted maniac: if you are gonna try and correct people, please ensure you are right, when someone has got the right code and you tell them it is wrong, really does not help them, there are a lot of people using this forum, a majority of which are newbies and are unsure of what to do, being given the wrong advise misleads them and confuses them, and makes it harder for advanced users to explain things because of conflicting advise... Auto create User account in unattended install
devil270975 replied to tcsdoc's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
yes webmedic: no need for the reg hack, i dont use it and it still auto logs in, the only time i can see that being of any use is if you set a password -
Auto create User account in unattended install
devil270975 replied to tcsdoc's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
as far as i know it should be: net user User pass /add net localgroup Administrators /ADD User twisted you are wrong, tcsdoc, you are right to set up a user account from the command line is net user name /add net localgroup administrators name /add if you are only setting up 1 account it will auto login AS LONG as you dont set a password if you need to add more users create another cmd script to add them at a later time after you have logged in and you dont need this code in the registry to auto login, no matter how many people say you do, you dont, if you dont specify a password you dont need to, to add a password later use net user name password Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 ;This will allow you to autologin.!!!!!!!YOU DONT NEED THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;Replace InsertName value with the Username you want to autologin with. ;Replace InsertPassword value with the password corresponding to the Username specified. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon] "DefaultUserName"="User" "DefaultPassword"="" "AutoAdminLogon"="1" -
