  1. I appreciate the effort for looking into this people. I don't think i'll even waste time on this tweak unless someone can convince me but with the replies so far I don't think that will happen anytime soon. Check out this link pretty interesting stuff about Microsoft claiming Longhorn has the ability to launch apps 15% faster than Windows XP, boot PCs 50% faster, patch systems with 50% fewer reboots, and let firms migrate to Longhorn 75% per cent faster. Kind of interested in how the Superfetch technology will tie into all. I guess we will see Thanks again everyone http://www.microsoft-watch.com/article2/0,...2129TX1K0000535
  2. On www.theinquirer.net I found this article "Longhorn's most useful feature leaked as XP tweak". Can this be true? I don't have the courage to put my system at risk to test it but hopefully one of you guys will have a go at it and reply with the results. If this is in the wrong forum please move it to the right place. Thanks and good Luck. Subject: Microsoft claims Longhorn will be, er, faster The only reason why its faster is they added a superfetch feature to the prefetcher. If you look at the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\Prefetcher you will notice in windows xp EnablePrefetcher = 3 and you will notice in windows longhorn EnableSuperfetch = 1 Well, guess what? You can put the EnableSuperfetch = 1 in windows xp and get the same speed. Wow, Microsoft just added a feature that was already there in xp. snakeye [At your own risk, Ed.]
  3. I personally like and currently use Office 2003 although when I first bought my laptop on a roadtrip trial version of office wouldn't load that came with the laptop and I wanted to copy and paste my itinerary from expedia so I downloaded Openoffice and was very pleased with the progress they are making not to mention it was FREE! =)
  4. I just got a brand new laptop which is the HP zd8230us which is there latest out right now. It has DL DVD BURNER with Lightscribe Technology which allows you to burn images directly onto the top on the DVD or CD lightscribe media. My question is right now the media is pretty expensive for a 10 Pack of DVD+R's which are going for roughly 18 bucks. I can buy a 50 Pack of non lightscribe DVD-R's for roughly 25 bucks. I have yet also seen a DVD-R lightscribe media for compatability with older DVD players which sucks. I see no real reason to keep buying the lightscribe media until it hopefully catches on because of the cost, compatability problem with older DVD players, and not to mention out of the 5 DVD+R's I have only two that sucessfully burned the image on top. Tell me your opinion on this latest technology. B)
  5. Pretty much just the transfer rate. SATA 150 = About 1.2 Gbps SATA 2 = About 3 Gbps
  6. Is this while installing your OS? If so just pull everything out but the bare minimum hardware needed. If you already got your OS loaded and then added a new device and you get the BSOD check to see if you have the latest drivers for that device. Best bet is to boot up into Safe Mode this should bypass the device that's drivers are causing conflicts. Also you might want to try a process of elimination by adding your hardware one by one. This method usually brings out the culprit.
  7. Check this site out it has a bunch of different methods that might help you overcome your install problems. You can read the whole article but I feel that just below the first screenshot will be the most helpful information. Good luck!! http://www.tweakguides.com/Farcry_3.html
  8. Maybe it's the copyright protection? I've heard certain games like Far Cry have been a nightmare to install on certain peoples computers because of it.
  9. I take it that means you'll be sticking with PS2 forever, then, since PS3 is--get this!-- *another console*!!! Jason <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I have to say you are one of the most anal people on this forum I have ever seen. Look at you four replies in a row bashing everyone's opinions thinking yours is the only one that counts! And then to make this comment shows how much your personality must shine on a daily basis "Come on, people, what happened to the *Intelligent* people who used to populate MSFN's forums? Have they all been completely supplanted by idiots?" You sure sound very *Intelligent* yourself a$$hole. Have a great day
  10. I will have to stick with the PS3 which is the successor of my current and most favorite video game console ever made being the PS2 of course. I don't have time to get use to another console nor do I want to. GO SONY!!!!!!!
  11. I will indeed purchase the PS3 over the XBOX 360 not because either one of them is more powerful or whatever else that people are comparing the two by I am so comfortable with my current system which is the PS2 that I don't really want to get use to another system. I just hope they make it affordable enough for the average joe. Both Sony and Microsoft are going to sell what they have to offer to most of there loyal fans so it really doesn't matter who's system is more powerful all that crap is just for bragging rights anyway. Good luck to both systems in which I hope revolutionalize the gaming industry forever!
  12. The following will only work if you can get into the recovery console unfortunately. If you get the error: Windows could not start because the following files is missing or corrupt \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM or \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SOFTWARE 1. Insert and boot from your WindowsXP CD. 2. At the first R=Repair option, press the R key 3. Press the number that corresponds to the correct location for the installation of Windows you want to repair. Typically this will be #1 4. Enter in the administrator password when requested 5. cd \windows\system32\config 6. Depending on which section was corrupted: ren software software.bad or ren system system.bad 7. Depending on which section was corrupted copy \windows\repair\system copy \windows\repair\software 8. Take out the CD ROM and type exit 3 WEBSITES EXPLAINING HOW TO FIX THE SAME ERROR VIA RECOVERY CONSOLE. http://www.dslreports.com/faq/3546 Look at page two http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545 Here is a link to a registry recovery tool that you can sample a demo of that might help . Registry Recovery Tool Demo Found this on a forum not sure if it works but it's worth a try. Boot the Computer, Press DEL <or whatever key gets you into Bios> F-1 or F-10, Go Into Integrated Peripherals, Go Into VIA OnChip PCI Device, Check to see if the OnBoard LAN Boot ROM is Disabled, If not Disable it. He states that this Fixed 5 Computers. Here is another solution I found somebody used on a forum. Just thought I'd note that after extensive reconfiguring and reformatting/reinstalling, I finally checked into the BIOS options and tweaked the settings a bit. What seems to have worked for me was to change the RAM settings from AUTO to the exact bus speed that I wanted. As MS' own KB article suggests checking memory when getting the aforementioned error, such a fix seems not unreasonable. I've had about 15 reboots without issue. Before the fix, I was hitting it every second or third power on. Sorry for the late reply but hope this helps.
  13. I'll continue to use firefox as my default depending on how good IE7 will be. I will definitely have both though as sometimes IE is the the only option for certain web sites.
  14. Sorry about your troubles dude but I just went through a major crisis with a system with a Asus motherboard and the SATA setup was a nightmare for me. I found the problem in my case to be the actual windows xp cd that i slipstreamed sp2 on just wouldn't except the driver's properly so luckily after a mind tormenting hour I tried the original windows xp sp1 i created the sp2 cd out of and everything seemed to go smoothly after that. For safe measures I loaded the raid utility and drivers when windows xp came up just incase. Looking at the bios history from your specific motherboard at there site seems like a sata fix for each update they have done so be sure to have the latest bios which I believe is 1019. Check this thread out they are using the same promise 378 drivers that asus uses and look what the cause was promise driver issue Hope this helps
  15. Can't wait for Call Of Duty 2 (PC) and Madden Next Gen (PS2) Those games look pretty insane so far
  16. What are you smoking, man? Sony has and always will be the dominant company in gaming consoles? You're out of your **** mind! Sony didn't even *enter* the market until what, 1996? They got in at a fortunate time when both Sega and Nintendo, who'd been the market leaders for over a decade, both screwed up at the same time and missed a big opportunity. To say that ANYONE, I don't care what company it is, will "Always" be the dominant *anything*, is just stupid. Jason <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I know that was a very broad statement but I was comparing Sony to Microsoft in terms of experience in the gaming industry since this thread is comparing PS3 and the XBOX 360. I've pretty much owned every console from Atari to even an XBOX and the only system sitting in my house now is the PS2 well until the PS3 comes out. I just can't wait to see who will reign supreme in the end but like I said I will put money on the more experienced company to pull through in the end being Sony like it or not. P.S. you should really check out the number of PS2's that have been sold globally. I think that would prove my point.
  17. Can you answer a couple of questions to help troubleshoot the problem. Is that cd a verified working copy? Because like boooggy was asking if it happens to be a slipstreamed copy all sorts of errors could happen if certain files were removed to make the windows cd smaller. During the install does it indicate you are missing certain files at any time before the first reboot? That would indicate the cd might be the culprit. Final question can you generate the error again and maybe post the error code using this for example "0x0000007B or INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE" this will help alot. Thanks
  18. Did you install the SATA drivers correctly by using the F6 option and inserting a floppy with the correct drivers? The reason I ask is that I made an updated Windows Xp CD with SP2 and the SATA drivers via nlite so I didnt have to do the F6 route and the SATA drivers didnt get loaded properly but it let it did go through the install process just fine but upon the reboot the system looked like it was going to load and then crashed to the beautiful blue screen of death on the first reboot. That's the first thing off the top of my head since I had this problem like two days ago. Hope this helps if not I will try my best to come up with another solution.
  19. Man most of those people in the second link probably have fantasies about rubbing Bill Gates nut sack !!!! Sony has and will always be the dominant company when it comes to gaming consoles. Just look at the number of consoles sold that explains itself. Even though I personally love the PS2 better I will admit the XBOX is a great console and personally love Halo and Halo2 but that's about it. There are so many things that could change from the time of release for both consoles so nobody knows which console will actually be better. Only time will tell but I would put money on the more experienced company to pull through in the end.
  20. I would sure pay for the PS3 at the price they are estimating it at. I'm not rich but that is is a bargain if you just compare it to most of the high end graphics cards on the market right now excfept you get a state of the art console. Just my opinion though. Can't wait man I can feel the power!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. Hey Sonu27. Yes you can. They got to comfortable with their activation scheme so now it has been cracked because of it. Just do a search in google and you might find what I'm talking about. I have the full version via Ares (The best P2P i've ever used)
  22. The game is looking even more crazy now that I see it in actual play. This is a big update from the screenshots I posted in an earlier topic. The end of the clip is just incredible. This is a must see for any FPS fan! Callofduty2 Teaser
  23. I got the retail version. hehe But I have no clue how to use it yet. I need to find a good tutorial site.
  24. Man those systems look amazing!!! I think it's way to early for them to waste a web page on. But hey there rich
