  1. Might be coincidental that you cannot logon after installing the new drive. Have you attempted to log on multiple times? Or reboot?
  2. Copy over the setupp.ini file from your OEM disk onto your new disk. You might have to reinstall Windows...
  3. And next time be more descriptive on the topic title.

  7. Disabling all of the affected hardware from Device Manager might help.
  8. Have you actually isolated the problem? Try removing the new RAM modules and check to see if you still have the problem.
  9. Errr....do you mean the Group Policy editor? If you do, type in gpedit.msc in a run dialog.
  10. @Jeremy If you mean putting frequently accessed files to the end, no.
  11. The following are some commonly misused registry tweaks that I have stumbled upon while reading some posts. If you have a question about a particular registry tweak, feel free to reply. "AlwaysUnloadDLL=1"-works only for systems prior to Windows 2000, newer systems automatically unload unused DLL's "LargeSystemCache=1"-reserves some system memory, but not all, toward speeding up writing files to disk, thus not much help toward improving game performance "Max Cached Icons=x"-supposedly increases the icon cache; unneeded for Windows XP as its cache has not limit "SecondLevelDataCache=x"-should only be used with processors older than AMD K6-2 and Intel Pentium 2 when the HAL cannot detect it otherwise; newer processors are reportedly slower if this key is set to any number other than zero
  12. I use a custom command-line defragger. Uses about 10k of memory + 10b for every file on my hard drive.
  13. Of course I'm not really overclocking that much . It was just an example. But I still don't get it, do they use different manufacturing for different speeds?
  14. Why is it that overclocking a DDR2100 memory module to DDR3200 causes more heat than a normal(non-overclocked) DDR3200 module?
  15. Many people claim that heat spreaders improve heat dissipation of memory modules. But this claim has, more often than not, gone untested. If you want to reply, the information I request is the temperature of the memory module before using a heat spreader and after using one.
  16. Seems that matrix0978 has fallen for a classic virus trick. The file that he is referring to his svchost.exe, not scvhost.exe. And no firewall is needed.
  17. One might not be able to go as far as calling it an antivirus, but there is a hidden virus-blocking mechanism included with Windows. Using the registry, one can block certain file names. And just as it turns out, most viruses have a certain definite name that can be blocked using this method. Just go to the Symantec site and add all virus filenames from the threat pages to the registry. The keys are: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] "DisallowRun"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\DisallowRun] "1"="virus1.exe" "2"="virus2.exe" "3"="virus3.exe" And so on...Although I have yet to find a virus that does not have a definite filename. One of the disadvantages of this approach is that if a virus were to have the same filename as a system file, then you cannot block the filename. I have created a sample file that blocks some of the current viruses. To use it, copy this to notepad and save as filename.reg and run it. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] "DisallowRun"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\DisallowRun] "1"="toosexy.pif" "2"="x.exe" "3"="xx.exe" "4"="winnett.exe" "5"="scvhost.exe" "6"="cpu.dll" "7"="csrss.dat" "8"="csrss.ini" "9"="csrss.lnk" "10"="Readme.txt.exe" "11"="daemon.exe" "12"="Infect.drv" "13"="Infectate.reg" "14"="Muerte.drv" "15"="daemon2.exe"
  18. It seems to me that many people installing a graphics card for the first time are completely puzzled. So I decided to compile this little guide to help the beginners out there frustrated with what's wrong with their card. Some people report having AGP 0x due to the fact that they had installed the card wrong. In most cases, you can just replace AGP with PCI-X if you have such card. So here's the steps: 1. Open your computer case and remove the metal protector guarding the AGP slot. 2. Align your GFX card with the AGP slot, noting the breaks, and insert it gently in. 3. Close your case and replace anything you have removed from the case, besides the slot protector. 4. Start up your computer and download the GFX card driver. 5. Go to your mobo maker's site and download the AGP PCI to PCI driver (This is IMPORTANT if you do not want AGP 0x) 6. Restart computer and go into the BIOS to configure your card. The step that most people miss is Step 5, downloading the AGP PCI to PCI driver. Although these steps should work with PCI-X, I can't make any guarantees, as I don't have one.
  19. Nvidia, no doubt. Unless if it were the best GeForce 6 compared to Radeon X800. Then I would choose Radeon.

    Xpize 3.0 Released

Bug report: XPize modifies user32.dll, which in some unknown way, causes applications using some of its APIs to crash. Example: Futuremark 3DMark03. This bug was found on Windows XP SP1.
  21. Hello, I'm Aegis; new to the forums, but not to computers. I hope I enjoy it here.
