0.5 -Fixed more errors in checksystem*.vbs. _________________ patchwork, Thanks for the article... Yes, I have thought of joining OpenSource and other place. But it's already enough time consuming to update my own webpage and the thread here. I will see when I'll have more time. And I'm not too worry about copyrights: Freeware is freeware you know...

Is it possible to force an app not to use 100% cpu?
Fredledingue replied to Fredledingue's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Hi, Murphy, Thanks for this information. The software "iPPlus" aka "iPhotoPlus" is copyrighted by U-Lead for/until(?) 1993. It still uses w3.1 black-on-white "open" dialog displaying 8.3 names. Except that it does most of any modern photo editor does. Sometimes I can't open jpg files but that's almost a detail. I notice that it stop running cycles like crazy when I open a menu (like "File"), but resume just after. OS w98SE+uSP2.01a+various updates P4 1.8Ghz - 512DDR - 120+40Gb HD - AsusV8100Deluxe/nVidia GF3 Ti200 Given the ancienty of the program, it could work easily with 10x less cpu power and memory. Maybe I should run through a "slow computer" emulation. I"v heard that there is some software emulating "slow computers" for test prupose. But that will reduce the speed at which the program is curently running (very fast). -

problem with kb891711 update
Fredledingue replied to Ambassador's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
no way. My 120 GB hd is almost empty. But I have some mysterious issues with the internet for a while. And my system is 3 years old. I don't worry. -
Is it possible to force an application not to use 100% of cpu? I will tell immediately that I have tried 3 different softwares to reduce the prority process from this application and they do not work! ==>CPU Usage:100% even on "idle"!! The app is iPPlus, a 10 years old graphic editor. I simply can't live without because despite its obsolecy in many aspects, it's by far the easiest graphic app I'v used. The problem is that it's invariably using all the cpu, even with no image open, making tasks with other programs (explorer for example) very slow. It doesn't crash my PC thought, and it uses practicaly no ram besides that. Thanks for your help!

problem with kb891711 update
Fredledingue replied to Ambassador's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
I have uninstalled KB891711.EXE because I got a BSOD after updating to the newer version (MDGX thread). Not sure if it's KB891711.EXE because I made all the 'MDGx' updates since last months at the same time but my internet conection became very slow, my browser slowly responding to clicks, system tired... then I decided to kill the KB891711.EXE task and got BSODed. I suspected KB891711.EXE to slow down my DSL connection before. I can't say for sure it's that but since I uninstalled everything seems relatively normal. As LLXX said, it would nice to evaluate the real need for this patch. ...And maybe the "mysterious anonymous author" could take a nickname. That would relax the tension. Unless he wants to make a myth of himself. -

If it's a 32 bits architecture on a 16 bits core... why can't we make it a 64 bits architeecture on a 16 bits core?

I use WinZip 6.3 No need to upgrade to more bloat. If I need more option or something special I use IZarc also installed (maybe I will try 7zip too). But my default extractor for .zip files is WinZip because it loads very fast. IZarc loads much slowlier.

If it's not FAT32, so what is it? "Properties" of my "ramdrive" shows me "FAT"

problem with kb891711 update
Fredledingue replied to Ambassador's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Probably not, but I don't have DSL connection to test this. This is a mystery for me. I will need to tsest the "desactivation" of the patch for a week or so, because I can't reproduce the situation intentionaly. I can just see if that happens as ften or not or never. -

Is it possible that U891711.EXE, working "as a service" is freezing my dsl internet connection during one or two minutes, in a random but frequent manner? -

??? The source code is available: Open .vbs or .hta files in notepad and you'll get the source code. Can't be easier. By "copyrighted" I mean that you can't steal my code, change two lines and put your name on it. If you want to participate in the developement, you can modify the scripts and distribute free of charge the modified versions, but you must keep my name as the main author of the script(s) and the copyright mark, and for the sake of cooperation, mention which lines you modified. The second thing is that you can't put this code/package for sale or charge a special fee for dowloading this code/package.

2.6: -Added HTML output with tables and links to folders B) -Improved: TXT output sorted by folder, then by type of change: easier reading -Fixed: Program not responding (infinite loop) in some case -Fixed: Files with "hidden" and "system" atributes not listed twice -
MDGx, Thanks for the link. I'll put this one instead, if everything is realy the same. But I didn't see and nag screen or any download prompt or license prompt or whatever annoying from the version within my package, and this is the lasst official version from their own site. The only difference (and this is what they say) is a small pause of one or two seconds before each start of the program and some remark lines in the dos prompt. _________________ Patchwork, What's your problem?

New version released today. Dowload here Using ARJ compressor instead.==> Much more reliable! It took a lot of readme reading, testing and figuring out all the switches for all the tested softwares to come with the conclusion that ARJ should be used and how it has to be used. Next candidate was Ldzip but Arj seems to be more complete, more flexible and more configurable. I'm tempted to use Rar for Dos but it's not freeware and it's not clear what are the limitations for the non-licensed version. Arj is freeware for personal use.
