My Browser Builds (Part 4)
chermany4ever replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
Hello there Roy and company. I just wanted to mention that using Serpent I am having a few small problems. When I log into facebook, after a while it tends to lock up. It always did and I solved it by restarting. It's logical up to a point as facebook has too many images, videos and such. A very heavy platform. But now sometimes it just closes by itself. I opted to stop using uMatrix and a few other extensions that were not so necessary and Serpent works much lighter and faster. I stayed with uBlock Origin only. Oh well, nothing radical. Always grateful for your work. -

I've got to admit it's getting better, a little better, all the time... -
OFFTOPIC Almost everything I post here is a thank you, a tribute, an attempt to cooperate in some way. To add my grain of sand. For my use Serpent works great. I don't need it to be perfect. I just need it to be functional. I thought I would share a trick that has been useful to me and that I discovered recently. Always trying to improve the performance of XP, I check the hacks pages from time to time and I found this one. Since I applied it the applications started to launch at the speed of light. Almost instantly. If you haven't tried it yet, I recommend it. I also applied several other tricks from that same page with success. But none of them left me so amazed. I wish I had discovered it years ago! lol Hope you enjoy it. https://tweaks.com/windows/37016/memory-performance-tweak/

My Browser Builds (Part 4)

Thank you again. I assure you it is version 3.5. In version 3.5 the toolbar, as you say, is different. But many users liked the previous one better, so Chris at that time released a patch to be able to apply the old toolbar. Everyone was happy. -

Thanks! Yes, it is. I use the unattended version of XP called UE6 which is much lighter, trimmed down. It works very well. It's fast and doesn't take up any space. Heavily configured to emulate mac. I use many small programs for different aspects and functions. Obviously Flyakite had to be in the game. A must have. Here is another sample. There is no way to achieve this wonder with any other modern version of windows, as far as I know. -

I am. I use XP almost exclusively. Like I said in previous posts, from time to time Windows 7 comes handy for some stuff when XP really gives me trouble. But I always come back to XP simply cause it's much more comfortable for me. I feel at home. I've tried Minios Windows 11 and this old PC runs it perfectly. That gives me the notion that I will be yet able to juggle ahead for some time. All software I use run very well in XP and get things done. Like other users said, newer versions of Windows are troublesome. For me, it's like Microsft finds a way to get annoying with each new version. Everything we love about one version, they take it away and make things difficult. -

Never asked for or sought help on any chrome based browser. To make it even clearer. Just commented stuff and some users spontaneously gave their help. I never wanted to use Bing as a search engine. And I wrote _oogle because clearly was never interested in any help on that. Faced with the possibility that Roytam may not be able to go ahead, we are chatting about alternatives, which refers back to the thread. We are still talking about the best legacy FF option for XP. To my mind it's still Serpent Basilisk. Sometimes we border on off-thread, yes, but no one has been rude to anyone. Quite the opposite. -

Someone recommended the 360chrome option a few pages back and nobody got angry. Never asked for help on that. Some offered their help and nobody got angry. I write _oogle because it pleases me. -

Oh, that's great! Suddenly it seems that there are many more options than I was aware of. There are always times to test. Thanks again! -
My Browser Builds (Part 4)
chermany4ever replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
Hiya there Nico. Thanks for your assistance. I tried to change the way 360chrome handles extensions but the section where the flags should be does not match what the readme file says. I assume this is because I am running Win7 and not XP. Regarding changing search engines, I've been there. I was unable to remove _oogle as the default search engine in any way. Although I was able to add DuckDuckGo! manually, I could not find a way to switch search engines. I've searched for buttons, I've tried using drag-n-drop.... I've tried everything but couldn't. I'm sending you a screenshot. Maybe there is a way and I am not being able to see it? Another good news regarding 360chrome is that WhatsAppWeb works! Not so in Waterfox Classic. As I said, I've been doing all this testing on Win7, so I'll do the same tests on XP in a while and I'll publish the results. -

Hi guys. Not that important, but I wanted to tell you that I'm testing that Chrome recommended pages ago under Windows 7. I find it ironic that it's called ungoogled since there's no way to remove _oogle as a search engine and add, say, DuckDuckGo! I also couldn't find a way to install any extensions. A downer... since browsing is fast and it seems very light on resources. I'm starting to test Waterfox Classic. I'll let you know how it goes. -

Thank you. I'm going to give Waterfox a try. XP wise I'm very happy with Roytam's Serpent Basilisk. It works really really well. I'm actually using an addon called New Tab Suspender in the FF installed in W7 and it does exactly that. Thanks again for all the info. Much appreciated. Couldn't agree with you more. Like I said in previous posts I use XP SP2 so I'm testing MyPal 68 in W7 but it's filled with bugs. I just can't get it to work. Thanks for your comments. In my experience official releases are crappy and full of cheese and that's why I always go for any unofficial modification. I have been using Windows UE 6 (my XP machine) for many years now and everything has been satisfying. Even now with this Windows Minios 7 the performance is amazing. As a south american myself, you don't know how much I wish these unofficial versions were French or Italian... it sounds so much cooler! I'm a legacy FF user, never liked chrome or any google stuff... but I'm gonna try this chrome you recommend and I hope it doesn't come from some caribbean island. -
My Browser Builds (Part 4)
chermany4ever replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
Thank you. I'm loving Windows 7. I installed the minios version. A lighter and improved version. I realize as I put hours on it that the real problem is not only the non-compatibility. The problem is that programs that in XP work, in Windows 7... simply can't get them to work right. Lots of errors that I can't find info on and I end up in a dead end. I ended up doing a dual boot with XP and 7 to split tasks. It works for now. Well, I assure you that I can sniff out their play. That's why I keep testing MyPal, but it's also giving me headaches. Memory wise it works better than FF, but it won't let me install any extensions. When I want to search from the address bar, it won't let me search. I will try to spend more time on it and not lose patience. I will look for info regarding what you say about multi-processing, which seems to be the case. Every time I use FF and open the task manager to see why my ram disappears there are thousands of FF processes there. -
My Browser Builds (Part 4)
chermany4ever replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
Let's hope that's not the case, Roy. Always grateful for your releases... and that's an understatement. I wanted to tell you all that I have been experimenting with Windows 7. It seems to be a reliable, stable, lightweight operating system. It runs smoothly. In fact, it boots faster than our dear old XP. I've slapped it around a bit and it holds up very well to the abuse. Firefox is still compatible, although the latest version does not support some extensions that I use and miss very much. Another problem is that it consumes a lot of memory... a lot. Having 4 or 5 tabs open means more than 2gb of ram gone. I've taken the opportunity to test the latest version of MyPal -thanks Feodor- and it seems to work very well. At memory level it seems similar and I still could not test if the extensions I use are compatible, but the good news is that Whatsapp Web works. Still... I could not get used to Windows 7. It offers some compatibility but several key programs are no longer compatible. So for now I'm sticking with XP. -
My Browser Builds (Part 4)

Hello Mina! Thanks for your enthusiasm! I must say that my OS is WinUE -Unattended Edition- wich is a XP version with all the cheese pretty much reduced. The version I started using back in the day is SP2 and another thing I loved to do with it is completely tweak and customize the looks of it to my taste. Heavily customised. To keep it running all these years without formatting I was successfully imaging with Acronis and returning to a healthy image in the event of any damage. To make a long story short... it would take me a lot of work to install WinUE SP3 and modify it to my liking -if I still remember how to do it- and even if I manage to do it maybe in a couple of months MyPal won't work with XP anymore or feodor will take a sabbatical and I wouldn't blame him for that! A little humour! You know I'm super grateful to ALL of you who make it possible for us to keep surfing on XP. I just think it's a lot of work to get just the Whatsapp Web page working. Just one site... and I'm bitching about it! -

Howdy folks. It's been a long time. More than a year without internet access. I have moved once again and here I have internet. I always used Basilisk because it is stable on my system and all the extensions I use work perfectly. Today I downloaded the latest update -always grateful Roytam1- and the only site I can't get to work is WhatsAppWeb. Sorry if this is a normal bug or you were discussing it in a separate thread. I've been away for a long time and I can't find any info about it. Any help? I leave a screenshot just in case. -

Hi guys. I've been using Serpent / Basilisk for a while and it works pretty good. Thanks roytam1!!! I wanted to ask you what is the proper way to upgrade to the latest version. Is it to unzip the new basilisk.exe and paste it on top of the old one? I would like to be able to keep the settings, addons, etc. Thanks in advance. -

chermany4ever replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
This is my first post here. Hello everybody. Much respect. Hello Roytam1. I'm here because Feodor kinda derived all the Maypal issue on you, here on this topic of this forum. So I wanted to ask if you are going to continue the Maypal fork. I have tested the last Newmoon and Basilisk releases but many addons are not working and some sites like Mega won't load, giving the message "browser outdated". I am not having this issues at all with the last Maypal release but I feel kinda lost thinking about the future. I could represent what I think all Maypal users are feeling right now. Thanks in advance.
