  1. Hola! :) You've been of ample help, mate. I didn't think it was necessary to provide the link to this particular video 'cause the sites didn't work with any, so I took for granted it wasn't relevant. I'll keep that in mind for future queries. I didn't start Serpent afresh -don't know how to do it, every time I start Serpent it takes my config directly from the system, don't know how to avoid that, plus I'm afraid of losing it- so I just restarted Serpent in Safe Mode and both sites worked perfectly, as usual. The info you gave made me think right away the problem was some extension, which seemed strange, 'cause I use few and I've been using 'em for a long time. But since disabling uBlock and nMatrix didn't give me any results I tried to disable AdBlocker Ultimate on both sites... and that did the trick! Both sites working perfectly again. I think the problem started because, as you say, some of these sites are so dirty that I was forced to block many different annoyances on them. I'll have to try to be more conservative about blocking. I've had similar problems in the past but I caught on quickly and managed to fix 'em on the fly. Seems so silly now! How could I distrust Serpent? Regarding video download sites, again I'm with you, they're super dirty, full of intrusive advertising. With these two in particular, time goes by and they don't go down. So far I've been able to block their annoyances with -almost!- no problems. I've tried video downloading software in the past but none of 'em convinced me and I never did much research 'cause the ones I tried didn't work or I had to try maneuvers that might put my system at risk. I've not been able to come up with one that works in portable format -best way to keep my system clean imo- but now that you give me these two names, I'll give 'em a try. Thank you VistaLover. You've been patient and this will surely help for future experiences. Also thanks to all who tried to help diagnose the problem.
  2. Hello guys. You know I haven't developed the knowledge to be able to diagnose the errors with the detail that you do but I wanted to tell you that there are two sites I regularly use that stopped working in Serpent. I'm not the kind of guy who watch videos on YouTube. I usually download the videos in the desired quality to play them on my PC. The two sites I use for that purpose have buttons to download the videos and they disappeared. The sites are: https://www.y2mate.com https://www.genyt.net They are quite popular sites, I guess you know them. I leave you screenshots with a red ellipse where the buttons used to be. In GenYouTube I could access by pressing Enter but the button to find the links to the videos just vanished. I upgraded Serpent to the latest version. I assume it's a Serpent problem because I tried to enter the sites using the old Mypal v.29 and the buttons are there. I hope you can help me because I use these sites a lot. Thanks in advance!
  3. Hello Miranda. I don't use mailnews. What I can tell you -if it's relevant- is that when uBlock fails to block any ads I block them with Adblocker Ultimate 2.26. Those are the only two extensions I use for ads and I use them simultaneously. They complement each other quite well. I used uMatrix in the past but I abandoned it because Serpent behaved in a very heavy way and the pages took a long time to load. I realized that I don't need such a powerful tool.
  4. Another thing is that I am aware that Facebook is banned in China. Maybe they have a similar platform locally. I speak only for myself but I feel I should not bother Roy with this minor issue.
  5. I wish I had the knowledge you guys have. Congratulations to all of you. You amaze me. I'm just a mere tester at best. What I can tell you is that I still couldn't find any FF 52.9 link that I find reliable (I always prefer portables) so Dan's suggestion led me to think about trying to browse facebook with my old Mypal 29.2.1 and the behavior is pretty normal. You notice how outdated it is but it never crashes or closes on its own. All basic functions work. After some time it also seems to "get tired" and it is necessary to close the tab and reopen it because it won't load any more content.
  6. I know. I'm willing to give it a try. Even in Windows7 using the latest FF release I feel like I'm having trouble getting off the ground when logging on to facebook. I think it's understandable and I find it a minor detail that Serpent sometimes can't handle it. It works perfectly on all the other sites I visit.
  7. Yes! That's exactly the part of Dan's message I quoted when I said to him "thanks for the tip mate!".
  8. Hello there Roy and company. I just wanted to mention that using Serpent I am having a few small problems. When I log into facebook, after a while it tends to lock up. It always did and I solved it by restarting. It's logical up to a point as facebook has too many images, videos and such. A very heavy platform. But now sometimes it just closes by itself. I opted to stop using uMatrix and a few other extensions that were not so necessary and Serpent works much lighter and faster. I stayed with uBlock Origin only. Oh well, nothing radical. Always grateful for your work.
  9. I've got to admit it's getting better, a little better, all the time...
  10. OFFTOPIC Almost everything I post here is a thank you, a tribute, an attempt to cooperate in some way. To add my grain of sand. For my use Serpent works great. I don't need it to be perfect. I just need it to be functional. I thought I would share a trick that has been useful to me and that I discovered recently. Always trying to improve the performance of XP, I check the hacks pages from time to time and I found this one. Since I applied it the applications started to launch at the speed of light. Almost instantly. If you haven't tried it yet, I recommend it. I also applied several other tricks from that same page with success. But none of them left me so amazed. I wish I had discovered it years ago! lol Hope you enjoy it. https://tweaks.com/windows/37016/memory-performance-tweak/
  11. Thank you again. I assure you it is version 3.5. In version 3.5 the toolbar, as you say, is different. But many users liked the previous one better, so Chris at that time released a patch to be able to apply the old toolbar. Everyone was happy.
  12. Thanks! Yes, it is. I use the unattended version of XP called UE6 which is much lighter, trimmed down. It works very well. It's fast and doesn't take up any space. Heavily configured to emulate mac. I use many small programs for different aspects and functions. Obviously Flyakite had to be in the game. A must have. Here is another sample. There is no way to achieve this wonder with any other modern version of windows, as far as I know.
  13. This is my hybrid Dodge 55. Look how beautiful and clean. I'm so happy, so proud.
  14. Oh I see. Pardon me. Real hybrids then.
  15. I am. I use XP almost exclusively. Like I said in previous posts, from time to time Windows 7 comes handy for some stuff when XP really gives me trouble. But I always come back to XP simply cause it's much more comfortable for me. I feel at home. I've tried Minios Windows 11 and this old PC runs it perfectly. That gives me the notion that I will be yet able to juggle ahead for some time. All software I use run very well in XP and get things done. Like other users said, newer versions of Windows are troublesome. For me, it's like Microsft finds a way to get annoying with each new version. Everything we love about one version, they take it away and make things difficult.
  16. Never asked for or sought help on any chrome based browser. To make it even clearer. Just commented stuff and some users spontaneously gave their help. I never wanted to use Bing as a search engine. And I wrote _oogle because clearly was never interested in any help on that. Faced with the possibility that Roytam may not be able to go ahead, we are chatting about alternatives, which refers back to the thread. We are still talking about the best legacy FF option for XP. To my mind it's still Serpent Basilisk. Sometimes we border on off-thread, yes, but no one has been rude to anyone. Quite the opposite.
  17. Someone recommended the 360chrome option a few pages back and nobody got angry. Never asked for help on that. Some offered their help and nobody got angry. I write _oogle because it pleases me.
  18. Oh, that's great! Suddenly it seems that there are many more options than I was aware of. There are always times to test. Thanks again!
  19. Hiya there Nico. Thanks for your assistance. I tried to change the way 360chrome handles extensions but the section where the flags should be does not match what the readme file says. I assume this is because I am running Win7 and not XP. Regarding changing search engines, I've been there. I was unable to remove _oogle as the default search engine in any way. Although I was able to add DuckDuckGo! manually, I could not find a way to switch search engines. I've searched for buttons, I've tried using drag-n-drop.... I've tried everything but couldn't. I'm sending you a screenshot. Maybe there is a way and I am not being able to see it? Another good news regarding 360chrome is that WhatsAppWeb works! Not so in Waterfox Classic. As I said, I've been doing all this testing on Win7, so I'll do the same tests on XP in a while and I'll publish the results.
  20. Hi guys. Not that important, but I wanted to tell you that I'm testing that Chrome recommended pages ago under Windows 7. I find it ironic that it's called ungoogled since there's no way to remove _oogle as a search engine and add, say, DuckDuckGo! I also couldn't find a way to install any extensions. A downer... since browsing is fast and it seems very light on resources. I'm starting to test Waterfox Classic. I'll let you know how it goes.
  21. Thank you. I'm going to give Waterfox a try. XP wise I'm very happy with Roytam's Serpent Basilisk. It works really really well. I'm actually using an addon called New Tab Suspender in the FF installed in W7 and it does exactly that. Thanks again for all the info. Much appreciated. Couldn't agree with you more. Like I said in previous posts I use XP SP2 so I'm testing MyPal 68 in W7 but it's filled with bugs. I just can't get it to work. Thanks for your comments. In my experience official releases are crappy and full of cheese and that's why I always go for any unofficial modification. I have been using Windows UE 6 (my XP machine) for many years now and everything has been satisfying. Even now with this Windows Minios 7 the performance is amazing. As a south american myself, you don't know how much I wish these unofficial versions were French or Italian... it sounds so much cooler! I'm a legacy FF user, never liked chrome or any google stuff... but I'm gonna try this chrome you recommend and I hope it doesn't come from some caribbean island.
