Thank you very much UCyborg. I was about to follow Astro's advice to go to GitHub and ask around. I was also playing around a bit with the flags but what I tried only made things worse. The good, the bad and the ugly! It will be a matter of finding a way around it. I remembered when that program appeared that created a virtual disk linked to Drive and appeared in My PC. Twas super slow! But today that speeds are different... where is that Setup.exe?
-
Sorry to hear that. Back in the day was advised against laptops, notebooks and so on 'cause they're difficult to repair. Never had anything like that, though today's mobile phones are almost there. I must admit everything small, thin and mobile makes me suspicious. I feel that they're designed so we can't detach from the device. I already sound like a conspiracy theorist.

Believe it or not I kept thinking about that quasi-discussion of 'too old' hardware, I mean, we all come from there, we all have an old pc in the wardrobe that worked great and we loved and stopped using due to lack of compatibility, not because it didn't work anymore. We should restrict people who are too young or have too new hardware to enter these threads or require a special permit for kids. This is hardcore, you shouldn't be here. Not having that much technical knowledge, everything I experience is trial and error, so my conclusions are what I come to from an intuitive manner and I agree with those who say it's better to disable hardware acceleration. I've found the browser works better when I disable that option on my machine. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ After a few hours of testing the only page I'm having problems with is Google Drive. Already tried to sync my account in another window, disabling the extensions and can't solve it. The page loads and looks fine but when it finishes loading and stop, it crashes. Does anyone else have the same problem?
-
Yeah! That did it! It's starting up fine, hasn't crashed again. Now to install extensions, import bookmarks and keep testing to see how it behaves. Thanks Astro!!! First you brought my comment here and then you helped me. You leave me speechless my friend. Thank you!!!

Every time I run the bat I always get a command window that disappears as it appears and nothing happens. Tried to run thorium.exe directly and the same thing happened but generated a debug.log that says: [0528/184635.171:ERROR:registration_protocol_win.cc(136)] TransactNamedPipe: Pipeline has terminated (0x6D). [0528/184635.203:ERROR:crashpad_client_win.cc(144)] crash server failed to launch, self-terminating Hope I've done what you ask correctly. By doing so a folder was created called %~dp0% which has more folders and files inside.
-
Yep, the first thing I did prior to paste the 3 files into the Thorium folder. While doing it progwrp.dll was the only file to request an overwrite.
-
Ok guys. Followed the instructions and pasted the 3 files into Thorium folder but now it just won't start. I ran it more than 20 times and nothing. You should know I use THORIUM_PORTABLE.bat 'cause I try to use portables whenever I can. Besides I never install programs in C: and using INSTALL_THORIUM.cmd installs it in C: without options. My programs are always on another partition. Thank you Astro and Dave for the tips! If you think I can try something else and it's no bother let me know.

I attach an image with the specs. The Thorium version is Thorium SSE2 122.0.6261.168. I don't know what the API Adapter is but I can tell you that it's the default with that version because obviously I haven't touched anything.

Here it freezes suddenly and does not react for several minutes. It also bothers me that I want to run it and just as it starts it shuts down 8 times out of 10.

My Browser Builds (Part 5)
chermany4ever replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
In all honesty, I don't know if I have the knowledge to configure Thorium exactly for my machine but tried in Settings all the friendlier options and didn't get it to work much better, was still pretty unstable. Another thing that didn't convince me is that I got used to the fact that with Serpent the cache is stored in memory -not on disk- but between Thorium folder and the cache it ate more than 1gb! Too much for me for a program that works quite unstable. I'll pass for now, although of course I recognise the effort. -

Hi guys. I want to say something regarding what you were chatting about a few posts ago. A bit off topic but I'll keep it short. I've been testing Supermium and Thorium. At least on my machine -XP SP2- Supermium started 2 times out of 8 and ran very unstable. It finally crashed my system one day when I was trying to block scripts with uBlock. I deleted it and had to revert back using an image. Then tried Thorium and although it seems more stable it also starts up when it wants, is unstable, freezes the machine at times and didn't inspire 10% of the confidence I feel browsing with Serpent. Sure it's nice to go back to using WhatsApp Web and browse some difficult sites in a more accessible way but I don't think it's worth it. I opted to stick with Serpent and only use 360Chrome for these other situations on relatively clean pages. That's about it. -

Ok guys, now you're convincing me to definitely not give it a try. -

Had no idea something like that was possible. I've read it filters through the browser proxy. I'll definitely give it a try. Thanks for sharing! All is welcome when it comes to bypass rubbish. -

I agree, but I would add that there are many, many other sites like that. That's why whenever I can I insist on never relying directly on those. Always download what they offer from outside, using other tools, avoiding advertising, viruses, etc. Every day there are more and more ways to bypass the crap. -

I can't with my super dirty one. It seems to load but then simply stops. -

Almost a week. First time the forum's been down for so long since I joined. Thought it was the end! At first thought it was because we're so revolutionary. Finally realised that's what happens when you know who makes bad jokes. -

Thanks for the feedback guys. So the problem is here. It's weird. I also use the latest version. Tried disabling all extensions and still no way to get the page to finish loading, Serpent closes itself. I'm attaching an error Mega gives me with the extensions enabled. Only in that case it doesn't close but it doesn't finish loading, obviously. -

chermany4ever replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
Hi guys, hope everyone is well. Since everything is very quiet with Serpent I wanted to mention that in my case, I can't open Mega. I didn't mention this before 'cause I didn't think it was that important, you know I'm not much of a troubleshooter and I know Mega is a capricious site that always insists on using updated browsers. Maybe there's a chance we can get it to work? In my case Serpent just closes itself when I enter the site. -
My Browser Builds (Part 5)
chermany4ever replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
Not that I know. As I've said in other threads, I use a cut-down version of XP (UE6). In those versions updates and patches are considered junk that bogs down the system instead of improving it. I also told you all that I like to customise the looks of the system completely and while I tried to use SP3 for greater compatibility it always gave me a lot of problems and could never get anything to work. That's why I'm sticking with SP2. Thanks mina7601 and VistaLover for communicating that exists SP2 compatibility for Supermium. I try to stay tuned but you guys are always many steps ahead. Thank you very much indeed. -

Requires SP3. I clarify for those who use SP2 like me. -

Did a lot of research back in the day. I don't trust these methods of trimming from XP but I've read these three threads you share and I'm going to try some of the options. Thanks! -
My Browser Builds (Part 5)
chermany4ever replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
Hi guys. Remember earlier this season I was telling you about corrupted files and occasional failures with SSD disks? Did some research and while I couldn't confirm from reliable sources, I got to thinking that we, the people who still use XP, can't TRIM SSD disks as newer operating systems do. I think this might contribute to early disk damage and file corruption. That led me to look for ways to take better care of SSD disks and one technique I've found is disable FF cache on disk and instead enable cache on ram. I did this in both SP 52.9 and Mypal 29.2.1 and performance improved quite a bit! The system as a whole seems more relieved. Maybe old PC's with little ram will not be able to apply this -although I would try just to test it out- but I guess machines with 2gb of ram or more will. I leave you the link on how to do it. I used a value of 300mb and everything works perfect so far. Hope it helps! Speed Up Firefox by Moving Your Cache to RAM -

Hello modnar. I don't use cable 'cause it's a long distance, I live in a cold area and the inclement weather would make it complicated, plus we are many neighbours taking the same signal, so the landlord would not allow it. Anyway, thanks for your recommendations and good vibes! -
My Browser Builds (Part 5)
chermany4ever replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
Hi guys. I wanted to tell you all that I finally restored my system image and everything is back to normal. I was able to check that uBO and aBu were working perfectly combined so evidently the problems I was having were due to data corruption. My system was failing in general. Anyway, I decided to remove aBu and stay with uBO and nMatrix for now. I am sure with those two I'll have good results. On the other hand, I've been testing programs to download videos from youtube that work in XP and I'm sticking with 3D Youtube Downloader. It's awesome. It allows you to download or convert videos according to quality or size and also allows you to configure how you connect to the internet, which is necessary for me because I'm far away from the router and I use my mobile phone as an extender through a proxy (if you can recommend any mobile phone app that works as direct extender without a proxy or if that's even possible I would appreciate some info). I have an antenna that picks up the signal but it's not compatible with XP and the antenna I use in XP works fine but doesn't have as much range. Thanks again to all of you!!!
