You should have vbrun60sp6.exe http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en vbrun60sp5 is already included in xp sp2.

i just tried running installer (VB6.0-KB290887-X86) manually and no Ua entry. (I am programmer, not unattend maker so don't really know if how you install makes a difference)

msvbvm60.dll in system32 should be file version 6.0.97.82 in properties/version if you want to test if vb works (not the version) run this checker. if it runs, vb6 is installed correctly. else you will get missing runtime error. vb6test.zip
-
vb runtime does not have interface or add/remove, it's just dll's.

That message is from IE, not security center. dont know if you can remove security center or not.

In "internet options" on advanced tab under security uncheck "check for signatures on downloaded programs"

Ubuntu Linux - try this great distro for FREE!
dman replied to prathapml's topic in General Discussion
@digerati, hope you find time to try it. Before I give any advice and sound like a poser let me say straight up I am not a Linux expert. But for what it's worth, if you are learning by taking apart, spend your time in ETC folder, especially sysinit and rc (might be different name, not everything in same place like windows) That is where all the boot and app init action happens and where one distro is different from another. @u41, doesn't sound like you have time to pee with 3 women in your life. I feel for ya bro. (the multi-million $$ part sounds good though) -
Ubuntu Linux - try this great distro for FREE!

@lilo, I mainly work with XP as well in the capacity of programmer/service tech. I have a partition dedicated to this project that I have worked on a little at a time (it's not overwhelming if you take it slow, beacuse they provide detailed instructions and explanations.) I have managed to build the LFS core and the BLFS (beyond linux from scratch) project, and while time consuming, was not really that hard. I now have a Linux system that I know every package. It runs kernel 2.6 with KDE 3.4 desktop, open office and other goodies, and my geforce 5200 nvidia drivers work like a charm (you have to get them from nvidia, as they dont supply their code to linux team). The whole key to Linux is in the bootscripts , and that is what you will learn doing this project. Compiling the code itself is a snap. If you take it slow and work on it a little at a time you will have no problems. I wouldn't try to push it if I hadn't done it myself and learned a lot from it. Thats what this forum is for, right? ... sharing ideas and knowledge! -
Ubuntu Linux - try this great distro for FREE!

Nobody is interested in even trying this? http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/ lylo, you said you are a Linux regular, how about it? prathapml, you sound like you could spare a box to try this out. You will get more out of it than loading every pre-fab distro out there. digerati too, I know you are all geek enough for it. tell me to pi** off if you want. (yes I am trying to goad you into it) -
According to MS, XP64 will install on NTFS or FAT32 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...roduct=winxp#15

Stopping a VBS script through WSH
dman replied to a topic in Programming (C++, Delphi, VB/VBS, CMD/batch, etc.)
or you could just set a flag and bypass remaing code if flag is set here is vbscript language reference. http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default....oriVBScript.asp -
@snekul, you might add that it also has a nice gui for that scanner, plus trend sysclean, mcaffee stinger and AntiVir personal. You are well equipped for virus removal with UBCD. copy download.exe from sysclean folder to mcaffee folder and put this batch in your mcaffee plugin and run to update the scanner. Sysclean already has an updater. @echo off del files\*.* /Q download.exe ftp://ftp.nai.com/CommonUpdater/sdat*.exe files/sdat.exe /newest /delete files\sdat.exe /E del files\sdat.exe

windows development

been meaning to look at this but never did. post results if you try it. http://msdn.microsoft.com/visualc/vctoolkit2003/ http://www.programmersheaven.com/zone3/cat1348/37350.htm -
No serious tech can afford not to have this in their toolkit. It's BartPE on steroids with lots of of malware removal, recovery and diagnostic tools. http://www.ubcd4win.com/

Not sure how this is simpler. My VB app uses timer to launch batch in hidden window. No IE, Java, vbscript warnings... just put it in startup folder or run key. It is fairly simple solution. Not even sure if he is going to use it, but it has been fun discussing the problem with you.

This thread explains some things about keys. Hope it helps. http://www.thetechguide.com/forum/index.ph...t=0entry32402

Try K-Meleon if you want to see fast. EDIT: BTW, I can boot xp or 98se and they are both wicked fast with whatever programs I am running. 98 def. loads faster, but other than that I can't blink fast enough for either. 1GB ram works wonders on any OS.

I see you caught this and edited. Yes, FF caches too unless you shut it off. (any browser without a cache is almost useless on dialup)

it's here on the forum http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...4&hl=boot+block

I think they are in program files\valve\steam\config\masterservers.vdf EDIT: Sorry, read your question again. I don't think the user favorite servers are stored on the local machine. They are in your online account so they are there no matter where you log on from.

@purewaveform, Looks like a good solution except sleep is not a standard XP command. As far as I know it is part of Windows 2003 Resource Kit. You can imitate it with ping somehow, don't remember, but in any case you are back to adding external programs. un4given said he already has cmd to find running proc and launch, he is just looking for timer. BTW, I do most of my programming in VFP and VB. I only ever used cmd files for vey simple tasks, and I'm blown away by some of the complex tasks MSFN members can accomplish with the "lowly" batch. Thanks for the education guys.

I'm not sure of your question. Do you mean how to make Windows PE? You can't, but you can make BartPE, which is very similar. http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/

Ubuntu Linux - try this great distro for FREE!
dman replied to prathapml's topic in General Discussion
Looks like a nice distro, But... If you are REALLY a computer geek and you want to REALLY learn about Linux, Install Ubuntu, then leverage it to build LinuxFromScratch and discover the mysteries of compiling source code, library dependancies, boot scripts and other things you won't learn from installing a prefab distro, no matter how nice it is. http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/ If you just want to use a free OS with no hassle, however, Ubuntu looks pretty close. I challenge you true geeks to try this project, then tell me if it wasn't worth your time. -
@purewaveform This looks like neat code, but still suffers from the same problem as my service code as far as running programs that access the desktop and need to read user settings.

I am no fan of product activation, but the idea that you have to reactivate every time you do an upgrade is a myth. I have upgraded a lot of XP machines and the only one I had to reactivate was a a computer with a blown MB with all integrated peripherals. If you keep the NIC and one other part is enough (the MAC address has more value than any other part). No normal upgrade will break it, and if you have a bad disk and have to reload windows on the same machine it will reactivate without any questions or calls to MS, so unless you are philosophically opposed to activation, this is a non-issue.
