SOAR HIGHER "Recently I heard a man of God share a heartfelt message for the Christians of America. There was unmistakable concern and compassion in his voice as he shared scriptures of comfort with those who felt drained of their spiritual strength. Summarizing what we were feeling, he said that American believers in Christ were under siege by an anti-God government. Our God-given freedoms were being trampled, sometimes under the guise of a created health emergency. Freedoms were being taken away in order to further political power. For the past year and a half, we have been in a spiritual struggle, not only for the souls of men, but also for the soul and spirit of America. It is a clash of kingdoms, a conflict of the darkness of evil and fear, against the kingdom of God’s light. The war is fierce. Many Christians who follow God’s principles and pray constantly, have grown weary with “battle fatigue.” Longing to see the present chaos cease, and God’s righteousness prevail, people ask, “How long must we endure, Lord?” Be encouraged! God has never lost a battle, and it is He who is leading His people. He has promised that there will be victory. Evil will be overcome, and the purposes of God will be fulfilled. The apostle John wrote, “For whoever has been born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world: our faith.” 1 John 5:4 (NASB). We must have faith in God, for victory is on the horizon...." MORE from the HIGH FLIGHT FOUNDATION blog: https://www.highflightfoundation.org/highflight-blog/item/soar-higher

How sitting all day can cause health problems — even if you exercise Working out for 30 minutes every day ‘might not be enough’ to counter the health issues created by prolonged sitting, says the author of a sweeping new study By Gretchen Reynolds Are you an active couch potato? Take this two-question quiz to find out: Did you work out for 30 minutes today? Did you spend the rest of the day staring at your computer and then settle in front of the television at night? If you answered yes to both questions, then you meet the definition of what scientists call “an active couch potato.” It means that, despite your commitment to exercise, you could be at risk for a variety of health problems, according to a sweeping new study of how people move — or don’t move — throughout the day. The study, which involved more than 3,700 men and women in Finland, found that many dutifully exercised for a half-hour, but then sat, almost nonstop, for another 10, 11 or even 12 hours a day. These were the study’s active couch potatoes, and their blood sugar, cholesterol and body fat all were elevated.... I wonder if dogs get depressed and lose their sense of purpose when they retire like some people do, or if this would be a reward from the dogs perspective as well… Farm herd Casper, who faced off 11 coyotes and killed 8 of them. He was missing for two days right after which they believed he was tracking the remaining coyotes and finishing the job. His vet said he was lucky to be alive and his owner said he will have him retire from herding… Man… he looks like a war veteran… We should send him to Wallstreet or Davos to have an eye on those wolves… When coyotes attacked, a dog killed 8 of them, saving a flock of sheep By Kyle Melnick Casper, a 21-month-old Great Pyrenees, is reunited Wednesday with owner John Wierwille's daughters, Eloise and Leona, after recovering from his fight with 11 coyotes. (John Wierwille) John Wierwille sprang out of bed early one November morning when he heard coyotes outside his Decatur, Ga., home. But by the time the sheep farmer made it outside to check on his flock, his sheepdogs were already on the scene. Casper, a 21-month-old Great Pyrenees, soon led a counterattack and hopped a four-foot fence. Over the next several minutes, Wierwille said Casper killed eight of the 11 coyotes on his property and chased away the rest. The five sheep remained unharmed. Despite suffering life-threatening injuries in the Nov. 4 attack, Casper has since recovered and returned home Wednesday, Wierwille said. The fearless sheepdog has emerged as a hero across the internet.... MORE: https://archive.ph/yid1d

Before we left on a trip to the Middle East, a “Master 500” Garrett Detector was given to my husband, Jim, by the inventor and manufacturer, Charles Garrett. Charles and his son were going with us on an expedition to the Red Sea to search for chariot parts related to the Biblical story in Exodus 14. It is written that after the Israelites had crossed the seabed to safety, the walls of water were released and engulfed Pharaoh’s army of horses, men and chariots. Jim was an avid adventurer, but he was more interested in searching for the ancient ark of Noah than in hunting for small underwater objects. To me, the thought of looking for and finding lost treasure piqued my imagination, therefore the detector became mine..." "...My spiritual hope rests in the words of JESUS that are recorded in Matthew 6:19-21 (TLV). “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in or steal. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”.... "True heroes are human beings that sacrifice themselves for a greater purpose other than their own pursuits of ease and comfort." Joy Irwin Schtakleff Astronaut Col. James B. Irwin HISTORIC AMERICAN HERO Since the beginning of time until now, only twelve men have placed their feet on a celestial body, the moon. Colonel James B. Irwin was one of them. History books tell of his historic space adventure but do not reveal the incredible life he led after his return to earth. He spent the next 20 years of his life reaching for a higher goal, one even higher than leaving the earth's atmosphere in search of new discoveries. This adventure was to reach out to his fellow man, and help them reach their Highest Flight In Life. He traveled around the globe with his family sharing his unique experience and a message of hope and encouragement. His historic flight to the moon on board Apollo 15 on July 26 - August 7, 1971 was a once in a lifetime opportunity. He was the 8th man to step on the moon's surface and his flight was the first to drive the lunar rover. These astronauts have a place in history along with other famous explorers such as Columbus, the Wright Brothers and others, which have changed the course of our lives. The website of Irwin's High Flight Foundation is at: https://www.highflightfoundation.org/james-b-irwin Astronaut Biografies: see on these two links: NASA Johnson Space Center: https://www.nasa.gov/centers/johnson/home/index.html and NASA Astronauts: https://www.nasa.gov/astronauts From Astronaut Col. James B. Irwin Biographical data: https://www.nasa.gov/sites/default/files/atoms/files/irwin_james.pdf excerpt here: NASA EXPERIENCE: Colonel Irwin was one of the 19 astronauts selected by NASA in April 1966. He was crew commander of lunar module (LTA-8)—this vehicle finished the first series of thermal vacuum tests on June 1, 1968. He also served as a member of the astronaut support crew for Apollo 10 and as backup lunar module pilot for the Apollo 12 flight. Irwin served as lunar module pilot for Apollo, July 26 to August 7, 1971. His companions on the flight were David R. Scott, spacecraft commander and Alfred M. Worden, command module pilot. Apollo 15 was the fourth manned lunar landing mission and the first to visit and explore the moon’s Hadley Rille and Apennine Mountains which are located on the southeast edge of the Mare Imbrium (Sea of Rains). The lunar module, “Falcon”, remained on the lunar surface for 66 hours, - more - National Aeronautics and Space Administration Biographical Data Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center Houston, Texas 77058 54 minutes—setting a new record for lunar surface stay time—and Scott and Irwin logged 18 hours and 35 minutes each in extravehicular activities conducted during three separate excursions onto the lunar surface. Using “Rover-l” to transport themselves and their equipment along portions of Hadley Rille and the Apinnine Mountains, Scott and Irwin performed a selenological inspection and survey of the area and collected approximately 180 pounds of lunar surface materials. They deployed an ALSEP package which involved the emplacement and activation of surface experiments, and their lunar surface activities were televised in color using a TV camera which was operated remotely by ground controllers stationed in the mission control center located at Houston, Texas. Other Apollo 15 achievements included: largest payloads ever placed in earth and lunar orbits; first scientific instrument module bay flown and operated on an Apollo spacecraft; longest distance traversed on lunar surface; first use of a lunar surface navigation device, mounted on Rover 1; first subsatellite launched in lunar orbit; and first extravehicular activity (EVA) from a command module during transearth coast. The latter feat was accomplished by Worden during three excursions to “Endeavour’s” SIM bay where he retrieved film cassettes from the panoramic and mapping cameras and reported his personal observations of the general condition of equipment housed there. Apollo 15 concluded with a Pacific splashdown and subsequent recovery by the USS OKINAWA. In completing his first flight, Irwin logged 295 hours and 11 minutes in space—19 hours and 46 minutes of which were in EVA. Colonel Irwin resigned from NASA and the Air Force in July 1972, to form a religious organization, High Flight Foundation, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He is Chairman of the Board. AUGUST 1972

Due Diligence and Art - Art piece for today by Sacha Latypova ...after selling my company and exiting full-time work, I wanted to learn art. I was always interested in it, and had studied a little after school as a child. So, I started taking drawing classes and workshops and was able to go to Italy for a few months for a more formal course of study. My daughter came with me for some of the months and we spent some truly quality time together in Florence. Be not afraid. I learned this from my daughter, who is a successful entrepreneur herself, and a person of strength, character and faith. Faith is something I have discovered on a much deeper level in these past couple of years. By popular demand, I will be including some of my artwork with my posts... They have nothing to do with each other, for the most part. The painting of Daniel was completed in 2021. It is oil on linen, 50x36 inches. I cannot explain the process of composing it other than “it came to me this way”. There was simply no other way to see it. Sunrise in the mountains, oil on panel, 9x12 in. Art piece for today: Forgotten Cabin, oil on panel, 11x14 in.

‘The 3 Tiers of Doctors Forum’: The Lower Tier Treats the Sick, the Middle Tier Treats People, the Higher Tier Treats the Country Dr. Jingduan Yang Jan 27 2023 Modern-day life is stimulating, to say the least—and our fast-paced routines may be accompanied by stress, tension, anxiety, and mental exhaustion. For many people, maintaining good physical health in the midst of their busy lifestyles tops their list of intentions. Dr. Yang Jingduan, a well-known Chinese psychiatrist based in Philadelphia, launched a series of lectures on the “The Three Tiers of Doctors Forum” to share his insights on the mind and body connection. The following are transcripts from the lectures. Lecture One: Opening Remarks Hello everyone, this is the first of “The Three Tiers of Doctors Forum” series. Why is it so-called? In Chinese history, there is a saying, “The lowest tier doctors treat diseases, the middle tier treats people, and the upper tier treats the country.” Put all these different tiers together—hence the title “The Three Tiers of Doctors.” This forum aims at sharing the principles of treating diseases and people and governing the country, and their respective relationships with our health. Let me first explain the concepts of the “three tiers of doctors,” with their respective “patients.” Bian Que, an eminent doctor in ancient China, and his two siblings were all doctors. One day, the emperor called Bian Que and asked him: “You are very famous, but can you tell me who else is a better doctor than you?” Bian said: “We have three brothers in our family. My eldest brother can see the problem before people get sick. He tells people how to live. These people are cured before they get sick, which makes it difficult for their medical skills to be recognized. So, he is not famous, except for the respect of our family, and no one else knows his true worth. My second brother is able to detect people’s sickness in the early stage, so he cures the patient before it gets worse. People think that he is only good at curing minor illnesses, so he is not very well-known either. For myself, I am involved when the illness turns profoundly serious. There I need to use all things at my disposal, needles, medicine, and scalpels, and it seems that I always save people from death, so I am more famous than my brothers. But in fact, they are both smarter than me.” Lower Tier Cure the Disease Now let’s talk about the “Lowest Tier Doctors Cure the Disease.” This means treating disease at its advanced stage. At this point when a person is already sick or is indeed very sick, just how ill is the patient for it to be classified as such? The answer is that when it’s in the stage where it can be seen with the naked eye, is detectable by instruments and tests, and with all symptoms visible, or touchable on the human body, treatment is needed. We are not dismissing “Lowest Tier” doctors as inferior because they treat diseases in the advanced or the most superficial state. In English, it is called “downstream,” which means that it is like water flowing from upstream to downstream. If we classify the early stage of the disease as upstream, then the late stage of the disease is downstream. Going to see the doctor at this stage is actually the downstream stage of curing the disease. This is not to say that downstream curing is not important. Instead, it is very important. The reason why Bian Que is famous is that he is a doctor who engages in the later stages of treatment. In fact, all the things that hospitals and doctors do today are basically this type of work—the later stages. It should never be interpreted that they are inferior or of low level, but simply refers to the stage of the disease they treat. Middle Tier Treat People Next, let’s talk about “Middle Tier Treat People.” The human body is extremely complicated, and the reasons why people get sick are even more complicated. Daily life routines have a great impact on a person’s health, and mentality and mood also play a significant role. People are born with congenital factors, which are called genetic factors in the West, and congenital constitutions in the East. These all have an impact. And there are also environmental factors, which will affect one’s health too. Therefore, treating people in such a “middle” stage refers to how to minimize some of those factors that cause people to suffer from diseases before they get sick. Middle-tier doctors (incidentally identical in writing as “Chinese medicine”) here do not refer to traditional Chinese medicine. It refers to how one should live and prevent diseases and is more appropriately called the treatment targeting the middle stage of the disease, the state between the two extremes from health to disease, and how we can minimize the factors that cause them. Dietitians, yoga teachers, qigong masters, and the like, who guide people with psychological stress reduction and counseling, life guidance, relationship counseling, and even counseling and guidance at work, all belong to this category and are also very important. Upper Tier Cure the Country Finally, let’s talk about “upper tier cure the country.” My understanding is: the most important thing in a country is its policy. Preventing disease and maintaining health are closely related to a country’s public health policy. And a country’s policy will affect the health of the entire population... ...The “Three Tiers of Doctors Forum” wants to share with you the various beneficial experiences and methods that we humans have accumulated so far from these three levels. This is a sharing of knowledge and methods, so everyone is welcome to participate in this forum and tell us your thoughts and experiences. Although we are all ordinary people, we can all contribute to the health of the whole society and the public. Its diet consists entirely of failed climbers… First documented discovery of Pallas’s Cat on the world’s highest mountain, Mt Everest… News Releases WCS NEWS RELEASE First Report of Rare Cat Discovered on Mt. Everest New scientific finding marks the first documented discovery of Pallas’s Cat on the world’s highest mountain NEW YORK , NY | JANUARY 26, 2023 https://www.flickr.com/photos/30141227@N07/6172568271/ Findings from a new paper published in Cat News have identified the first ever report of Pallas’s cat on Mount Everest, in the Sagarmatha National Park in Nepal. This groundbreaking finding is a result of the 2019 National Geographic and Rolex Perpetual Planet Everest Expedition, the most comprehensive single scientific expedition to the mountain in history. From April 7 to May 2, 2019, Dr. Tracie Seimon of Wildlife Conservation Society’s Zoological Health Program, based at the Bronx Zoo, co-led the Perpetual Planet Everest Expedition biology field team of scientists who collected environmental samples from two locations 6 km (3.7 miles) apart at 5,110 and 5,190 m (16,765 and 17,027 ft) elevation above sea level along Sagarmatha National Park on Mount Everest’s Southern Flank. “It is phenomenal to discover proof of this rare and remarkable species at the top of the world,” said Dr. Seimon. “The nearly four-week journey was extremely rewarding not just for our team but for the larger scientific community. The discovery of Pallas’s cat on Everest illuminates the rich biodiversity of this remote high-alpine ecosystem and extends the known range of this species to eastern Nepal.” The DNA analysis of scat samples collected from both sites confirmed two Pallas’s cats inhabit Mount Everest and overlap in territory with red fox. The researchers found evidence of pika and mountain weasel DNA in the samples, an important food source for Pallas’s cat. These findings also add a new species to the list of known mammals in Sagarmatha National Park, a heavily visited and protected World Heritage site. “This is a unique discovery not only in terms of science but also conservation as this population of Pallas’s cat is legally protected under CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora),” said National Geographic Explorer and co-author of the paper, Dr. Anton Seimon. “We hope that the confirmation of this new charismatic species will raise awareness of and education about the diversity of species at this iconic World Heritage Site.” The number of tourists visiting Sagarmatha National Park and Mount Everest has been dramatically increasing, from just a few thousand in the 1970s to over fifty thousand in 2019. It is notable that Pallas’s cat went undetected in this park until 2019, and the new study demonstrates how conservation genetics and environmental sampling can be utilized as a powerful approach to discover and study cryptic and elusive species like Pallas’s cat. Future research combining camera trap surveys and collection of additional scat samples would help to better define the Pallas’s cat population, range, density, and their diet in Sagarmatha National Park. “The groundbreaking 2019 Perpetual Planet Everest Expedition continues to be extremely valuable to better understand the most iconic environment on our planet,” said Nicole Alexiev, Vice President of Science and Innovation Programs at National Geographic Society. “These results are a perfect illustration of why this work is important and a cornerstone of our partnership with Rolex to study and explore Earth’s critical life support systems.” From April to May 2019, an international, multidisciplinary team of scientists conducted the most comprehensive single scientific expedition to Mt. Everest in the Khumbu Region of Nepal as part of National Geographic and Rolex’s Perpetual Planet Expeditions partnership. Team members from eight countries, including 17 Nepalese researchers conducted trailblazing research in five areas of science that are critical to understanding environmental changes and their impacts: biology, glaciology, meteorology, geology and mapping. A Massive Void Has Been Sealed Inside The Great Pyramid Of Giza For 4,500 Years. What's Inside? When pharaoh Khufu's sarcophagus was opened, nothing was inside. Could his body be in the void? by JAMES FELTON Senior Staff Writer Jan 23, 2023 Inside the Great Pyramid Of Giza, there is a massive void. The room, sealed when the pyramid was completed some 4,500 years ago, is of unknown purpose, though some have speculated it could be a secret burial chamber of the pharaoh Khufu, who ordered the pyramid to be built. In 2017, a team known as ScanPyramids scanned the Great Pyramid of Giza using muon tomography. Muon particles are negatively-charged particles produced by cosmic rays which collide with atoms in the Earth's upper atmosphere at around 10,000 per square meter per minute. "Like X-rays, which can penetrate the body and allow bone imaging, these elementary particles can keep a quasi-linear trajectory while going through hundreds of metres of stone before decaying or being absorbed," the team explains in their study, published in Nature. "By recording the position and the direction of each muon that traverses its detection surface, a muon detector can distinguish cavities from stone." All that is to say that they used a very cool way – involving cosmic rays, no less – to look inside the Great Pyramid. And inside, they found a chamber that had never been seen before. "We report the discovery of a large void (with a cross-section similar to that of the Grand Gallery and a minimum length of 30 metres [98 feet]) situated above the Grand Gallery," the team wrote. "This constitutes the first major inner structure found in the Great Pyramid since the nineteenth century."... One Of The Closest Asteroid Approaches Ever Predicted ... The asteroid will skim just 3,600 kilometers (2,237 miles) overhead, closer to people below than we are to the center of the Earth. STEPHEN LUNTZ Predictions of close asteroid approaches are becoming common as we gain more knowledge of objects with Earth-crossing orbits. Nevertheless, the passage of 2023 BU over South America shortly after midnight GMT tonight is on quite a different scale. Many astronomers define a close approach as coming inside the orbit of the Moon, although more distant passages still attract attention if the object in question is large enough. Tonight 2023 BU’s will briefly be 100 times closer than that, causing it to leave on an entirely different orbit. Nevertheless, 2023 BU won’t exactly be skimming the atmosphere, and indeed will be 3,000 kilometers (1,800 miles) further from the planet’s surface than the International Space Station or most other low-Earth orbit satellites. On the other hand, it will be ten times closer than satellites in geosynchronous orbit. A collision with 2023 BU wouldn’t have been disastrous either, at least on a planetary scale. At somewhere between 3.5 and 8.5 meters across (11-28 feet), this is no dinosaur killer....
