  1. This pertains to uBlock Origin EXTENSION installation with BASILISK 55 (not 52, but probably works much the same). Warning (1) --> First SAVE (EXPORT) your MY FILTERS to *.TXT File That way, you do NOT lose them if you already have them from an earlier already installed 'UBO' EXTENSION version. https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/releases At the above URL, download the appropriate release. (Scroll Down to find the LEGACY EXTENSION) This time, it was LEGACY 1.16.4.4 for FIREFOX one. So, you hopefully have the appropriate downloaded *.XPI file. Use the 'HAMBURGER' button in the upper right corner, then ADD-ONS. On the EXTENSIONS (left side choice) page, there is in the TOP CENTER location a GEAR Icon. Click the GEAR Icon and choose --> "Install ADD-ON from FILE" and find the 'UBO' *.XPI file and do that. Hope this helps with regard to UBO EXTENSION installation and BASILISK 55. Added: With BASILISK 55, I had the unusual situation where the BK55 TOP MENU Icon for 'UBO' (upon installation) did NOT get created there. Rather, it got created (located) in the ('Hamburger' Button -- Top Right) CUSTOMIZE area (Lower Left) instead, in the 'ADDITIONAL TOOLS and FEATURES' box. So, this got solved by (moving) DRAGGING that 'UBO' Icon up onto the (Top) MENU BAR of the Browser. NOT sure if anyone else will have that problem, but just in case.
  2. @ThomasW<-- This may NOT be relevant to you, but who knows. A lot of WinXP OS users here with CPU and RAM limited hardware, have had fairly good luck with these ROYTAM maintained Browsers: https://o.rthost.cf/palemoon/ The August 18 version being currently the most recent version: https://o.rthost.cf/palemoon/palemoon-28.1.0a1.win32-git-20180818-f36ad080c-xpmod.7z Above is the 32bit version ; there is also a 64bit version listed ROYTAM has referred to this as NM28XP, to avoid PM reference. http://o.rthost.cf/basilisk/ For the BASILISK55 (not 52) Browser. http://o.rthost.cf/basilisk/basilisk55-win32-git-20180707-019ca9a53-xpmod.7z This above is currently most current. Again, there is also listed a 64bit version. The NM28XP seems more responsive than the BK55 Browser. But the JAVASCRIPT engine and HTML rendering is better with BK55. In any event, surely it does not hurt to post this. Hope this helps.
  3. @Jody Thornton<-- Use (NM28XP Browser Address) "about:config" Search = "animation" Find (5th one down) this setting: image.animation_mode ; once User Set it to "once" value. That will cause ANI-GIFs to play ONE time, and NOT repeat. Good for NOT CRASH on HTML page with multi ANI-GIFs present. http://www.xtreme-lab.net/7gif/en/index.html 7GIF file viewer ; DOWNLOAD (Save) the ANI-GIF and view with 7GIF Sometimes you are NOT able to see (catch) the ANI-GIF when it 'ONCE' plays. So, 7GIF does solve that problem, IF you want to see the ANI-GIF (over and over).
  4. Using NM28XP -- Okay, try this: For (Browser Address URL) "about:config" Type (Top Search Box) "media." -- (Note 'period' on the end) It should list this 'setting' at top: "media.autoplay.enabled" So, set this (above) to "true" for 'autoplay' immediate startup. I had it set to "false" because I like it that way. I suspect that I changed it to that (false) without recalling it. Anyway, the 'toggle' aspect of this setting works with YOUTUBE here. I assume that it impacts (Adobe) FLASH media (and others) too. I should have thought to find and check this setting sooner.
  5. As far as LOW RAM issues and NM28 Browser --> Here, I have to use the TASK MANAGER (WinXP OS Program) to CLOSE NM28 Browser somewhat frequently. What happens here, is that over time, the NM28 Browser begins to get 'locked up' in SLOW MODE trying to access my DISK CACHE of Files, because I have 'used up' my RAM memory (that I can figure it out). The solution is to CLOSE the NM28 Browser via the TASK MANAGER, and then REOPEN it. I use the TASK MANAGER to verify that RAM has been freed up fully again. It can take like 10 seconds for the NM28 Browser (palemoon.exe) to EXIT from the executing 'PROGRAM STACK' listing (TASK MANAGER). This is NOT ideal, having to CLOSE and REOPEN the NM28 Browser this way, somewhat regular. BUT, NM28 remains STABLE. It does NOT 'lock up' or 'crash' on me. It just SLOWS DOWN (drops to HEAVY DISK CACHE usage) in a significant manner over time. Which, to FULLY CLOSE (via TASK MANAGER) and REOPEN the NM28 Browser is a LOT faster than having to do a FULL REBOOT of the WinXP OS. So, NOT complaining here at all. More offering a strategy to 'keep on going' with the NM28 Browser. For me, the STABILITY of the NM28 Browser on my Very RAM Limited, OLD and SLOW WinXP Laptop is a WINNER here. THANKS to ROYTAM for NM28 Browser.
  6. With NM28 Browser ; on the USER AGENT MODE (Compatibility) setting, I had changed to NATIVE for it. And that created PROBLEMS for me in Rendering HTML properly. Which, I was NOT clear on WHY that I was having problems on Rendering HTML. So, I posted a message here 'crying' about it, and ROYTAM did immediately suggest to check for FIREFOX COMPATIBILITY (USER AGENT MODE). And that immediately SOLVED my problems. NOT sure if that pertains to any other recent messages here. But now, once in awhile at least, I CHECK to see that the NM28 Browser is STILL set to FIREFOX COMPATIBILITY (USER AGENT MODE). THANKS again to ROYTAM to reply and help me in the past on this issue.
  7. (Updated July 2019) I am posting this message as an alternative to the (not MS Official) WinXP SP4 Update Package. HERE, I kept having stability problems (PC Crashes) after installing the SP4 Package. Which proves NOTHING about whether to use the SP4 Package. MANY others have used the SP4 Package with NO PROBLEM and get a good result. But the SP4 Package is NOT a 'Microsoft Official' Package either. WinXP_SP3_Updates_Hotfix_List.txt <-- Download (View) this FILE, attached at bottom of THIS MESSAGE here. https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com Download individually KB Updates (Hotfixes) from above (Official Microsoft) URL As far as SEARCHING for the 'KB UPDATES' -- this seems to have gotten WORSE than it was. WindowsXP-KB892130-ENU-x86.exe <-- I could NOT get this to LIST at the 'MS Catalog KB UPDATES' site. But GOOGLE Search = "Windows XP KB892130" did display a URL download (MS Official site). http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com <-- Search = "Windows XP" It lists categories like "Critical Updates" , "Updates" , "Service Packs" , etc. Mostly, using say Search = "KB946648" will list the item for download -- but NOT always. Best of luck on the Searching, you may be better at it than me. So first, install (re-install) the WinXP SP3 (Service Package 3). Hopefully then, WinXP is rebooting and stable for you. Then you can MANUALLY install the UPDATES to WinXP SP3 (Hotfixes) via using the FILE LIST (attached here). Download and Install the KB FILES (*.EXE) from the 'MS UPDATE CATALOG' website. So, you just 'grind through' installing the LONG list of KB UPDATES for WinXP in a 'one at a time' basis. This is TIME CONSUMING but simple, and you can eventually get it done. http://icrontic.com/article/repair_windows_xp Finally, IF you continue to have PROBLEMS with WinXP, consider to use the SYSTEM REPAIR feature via RECOVERY CONSOLE of WinXP (using the official WinXP Install CD, boot up with that). THAT should definitely get you back to a STABLE WinXP situation. This should give you a CLEAN REGISTRY type situation with WinXP. THEN, you can install SP3 (Service Package 3). And THEN, you can install the KB UPDATES as described. Hopefully, you get most all of the 'critical' KB UPDATES for WinXP SP3 installed properly. This is more a 'minimum reasonable' suggestion for WinXP SP3 and KB UPDATES. IF the WinXP SP4 Package works for you, that might well be a better choice. WinXP OS is NOT supported officially anymore. However, there are BROWSERS that support WinXP. (NEW MOON Browser = 'Pale Moon' fork by @roytam1) is updated to work with websites via WinXP. 8. I follow your logic. But also, NM28 is ALPHA level quality just now. Here overall, NM28 is significantly LESS LAGGY than say BK55. But BK55 has a BETTER ability to do JAVASCRIPT and RENDER HTML properly in general. For me, BK52 does work only POORLY on my hardware and software combination. TOO MUCH accessing of DISK CACHE files, compared to BK55, which seems BETTER behaved on that issue. I plan to check BK52 maybe once a month, to see if there is improvement. But otherwise, I use NM28 mostly, and have BK55 as the 'slower, but gets it done' option.
  9. @roytam1 <-- Added: ROYTAM1 did correct me (his following message) and state that NM28 should be considered BETA level -- so BETTER performance than ALPHA level. http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2018/06/29/falcon-crest-star-lorenzo-lamas-files-for-divorce-from-fifth-wife.html Okay, the above (URL) FOX NEWS Article uses the SPOT.IM (Javascript driven) COMMENT 'plugin' for that. So, I did install this latest NM28 version ... palemoon-28.0.0b2.win32-git-20180630-b5b0b2844-xpmod The SPOT.IM did FAIL to load properly. A "STOPPED" message remained in the STATUS BAR. I switched back to the earlier NM28 version ... palemoon-28.0.0a4.win32-git-20180623-f58362790-xpmod The SPOT.IM did then succeed to LOAD and work properly. I was able to replicate this behavior here on my Old Laptop PC. So, I will stay with this OLDER version of NM28 for now. I have seen ODD behavior with regard to this SPOT.IM 'plugin' before. So, NOT certain that my personal experience matters that much. This may 'solve itself' in the NEXT version of NM28, is what I mean to suggest it. Quite a few major websites do use this SPOT.IM comment 'plugin' software now. I am aware that the NM28 Browser is ALPHA level, and so this is to be expected. Footnote: I care NOT about LORENZO LAMAS -- just a sample article. Added Later: These COMMENTS Browser 'plugins' for WEBSITES, like DISQUS and SPOT.IM, are fairly complex and JAVASCRIPT driven. So far, just lately, I am NOT able to get SPOT.IM to load in the BK52 Browser -- but NM28 and BK55 Browsers work FINE with SPOT.IM loading. Trying BK55 Browser would be my suggestion, as it has the most recent JAVASCRIPT engine. On the other hand, I have this fairly recent NM28 version working FINE on DISQUS and SPOT.IM too, as well as general Browser activity.
  10. Yes, I see this 'hang on playback' with YOUTUBE behavior also, as described. It is NOT that much a problem, in that the YT website does 'pop up' a message saying to STOP and RESTART the embedded YT PLAYER. At which point, doing that does solve the problem, and playback begins.
  11. ftp://palemoon:get@archive.palemoon.org/ This FTP URL opened for me. I am guessing that you already looked there though. There is a LANGPACKS folder there, and '26.x' folder there. Which, that is clearly NOT a '28' folder. Probably this did NOT help you.
  12. These NewMoon (Basilisk) tweaks (about:config) were recommended by others to me. gfx.canvas.azure.backends ... direct2d1.1,direct2d,cairo gfx.content.azure.backends ... direct2d1.1,cairo canvas.poisondata ... true On the FONT situation ('backends'), one can always RESET them to the DEFAULT. Hope this helps. As added observation, the NM28 Browser has an improved JAVASCRIPT engine in it. I noticed that a couple HTML situations that FAILED under NM27 are now rendering correctly under NM28. A still better JAVASCRIPT engine would be in say the BASILISK 55 Browser.
  13. @roytam1 <-- Please clarify on this. palemoon-28.0.0a3.win32-git-20180609-ca8d6d010-xpmod.7z The ABOVE file download listing is still a SNEAK PEAK one? NOT to be used yet? pm28xp-sneak-peek-win32-20180526-8f354e52d.7z The reason that I ask is that it is NOT named as the OTHER SNEAK PEAK files for NM28 (see above one). Or maybe I am just confused somehow on the 'file naming manner' and what it means. NOT looking to seem critical here.
  14. I have (WinXP) these hard drive 'trees' for NewMoon and Basilisk Browsers --> C:\Documents and Settings\MyID\Application Data\Moonchild\Basilisk C:\Documents and Settings\MyID\Application Data\Moonchild Productions\Basilisk C:\Documents and Settings\MyID\Application Data\Moonchild Productions\Pale Moon Okay, I would like to have installed and use both Basilisk52 (ver) and Basilisk55 (ver) Browsers. Does that present any kind of problem, to have BOTH of them installed (active) ??? Also, there is the MOONCHILD 'tree' and the MOONCHILD PRODUCTIONS 'tree' (see above). Is the MOONCHILD 'tree' left over (not needed) somehow from a previous PALE MOON Browser installation? For me, BK52 Browser seems a bit 'lagging' overall. So, I am wondering if BK55 Browser might work a bit better for me. Even though I realize that BK55 Browser is LESS updated, and ROY recommends BK52 Browser. So, any reply about this, much appreciated. Added: Okay, I have BOTH BK52 and BK55 installed and working here. I am getting a BETTER result using BK55 too. BK52 seems to 'force' HARD DRIVE FILE CACHE access MUCH more than BK55 does. NO IDEA why that might be happening that way. This could be something to do with MY personal settings, is what I mean to suggest it as a possibility. I am just PLEASED that the BK55 Browser is working as well as it is (here anyway). @Jody Thornton <-- Please see what I said above on BK52 vs BK55 Browsers.
  15. @roytam1 <-- Added: Okay, the latest NewMoon28 version is working WELL for me. And I also discovered finally the (Pale Moon) SEARCH PLUGINS that allows GOOGLE to become the SEARCH ENGINE. Leaving what I said previously below, for records purposes. Also, in a message before, I was saying of having a problem with NM28 and the DEFAULT BROWSER setting. Which, that seems now SOLVED (via a newer NM28 version installation) too. =================================================== On the upcoming NewMoon28 - I notice that it will NOT have GOOGLE as a designated SEARCH ENGINE choice. Meaning that one cannot MARK TEXT and then (RIGHT Click) feed that into the GOOGLE Search Engine. Could it be possible to ADD GOOGLE as an SEACH ENGINE option for NewMoon28 ??? Or maybe a PATCH could be created that alters what is needed ??? As compliment, NewMoon27 is MUCH faster for me on my SLOW CPU Old Laptop here. I suspect that '27' is the BEST choice 'out there' for SLOW CPU WinXP systems. And '27' RARELY fails to render HTML correctly. IF that should happen (HTML problems), the BASILISK52, while definitely slower for me, gets the the job done on more demanding JAVASCRIPT engine situations. The COMBINATION of them (these two browsers, being able to alternate as needed), is WONDERFUL to have it. THANKS !!!
  16. @roytam1 <-- https://o.rthost.cf/palemoon/palemoon-28.0.0a2.win32-git-20180602-84d731716-xpmod.7z I installed the above NewMoon SNEAKPEAK 28 version. The feature where you have the 'window box' where it prompts you upon opening launch to make it your DEFAULT BROWSER -- to 'click' the button to choose to make it the DEFAULT did NOT work. You can 'click' the button -- but it does NOT change to DEFAULT BROWSER -- and the wording below does NOT change either. Which is good, in that it is indicating that it 'fails' on that. Also, for ME, the 'NewMoon 27' versions do NOT work on the currently active MSFN.ORG website for POSTING messages. The QUOTE feature is NOT visible. And the REPLY BOX, if I 'click' in there, it 'hangs' in a "LOADING" message mode. I am using BASILISK52 for posting these messages -- which gets the job done, if more slowly overall (for me). Added: @roytam1 suggested for PM27 --> Choose "Firefox compatibility" in Options (Msg below) That FIXED my problem -- THANKS !!! Going to locate my 'If It Ain't Broke - Leave Well Enough Alone' T-Shirt
  17. With a SLOW CPU ; you are always better off to DOWNLOAD the FULL VIDEO FILE to your HARD DRIVE (saved as say an MP4 or WEBM video file). Then use a stand alone Video Player like MPC-BE (Black Edition), POTPLAYER, or VLC (well known) to play the video file LOCAL off your own HARD DRIVE. You get a better result that way. Trying to play EMBEDDED VIDEO on a SLOW CPU via a BROWSER in a STREAM DATA situation is a WORSE choice (my view). As far as how to DOWNLOAD a video file (MP4, WEBM) -- I would suggest (free) YOUTUBE-DL.exe -- which is a Command Line Interface (CLI) program -- uses CMD.EXE (Win OS). YT-DL also interfaces with (free, CLI) FFMPEG.exe automatically, for merging of separate Video and Audio files that it downloads. Lots of 'power' (download options) that the YT-DL and FFMPEG combination allows it. YT-DL works on a LONG list of websites -- not just YouTube alone. http://blog.k-tai-douga.com <-- FFMPEG version that works (compiled) for WinXP and YT-DL. Official FFMPEG site stopped supporting WinXP awhile back. It is the 'LEGACY / Windows XP' labled one. @CoRoNe (below msg) said --> "Streaming or downloading first makes no difference if you ask me." IF the say MP4 file is FULLY DOWNLOADED, then there is no concern about BUFFERING the data stream in the Media Player. There is LESS stress on the CPU to just 'Media Play' a FULLY DOWNLOADED MP4 file via a stand alone Media Player (my view). But in the end, WYSIWYG = What YOU See is What YOU Get. If something works well for you -- then it does.
