I'm running XP as a virtual machine with full USB 3.0 support, Virtualbox has an optional setting to enable it. It may also work in W2k, but no usb 3.1 (for now).

Hmmm,it probably should work because they natively support XP, USB 3.0 doesnt but 3.1 does, with some workaround it should

i wonder how intel port work after not having driver

    how you repaired it?

That's thanks to the BIOS USB Legacy Support but, anyway, it's a bonus.
OTOH,the mouse ought to work right on the thunderbolt, regardless of being connected through a hub and an adapter.
But, in any case, as soon as you test it, let us know.

Your experience sure may be turned into a Mini-How-To, after you get all issues sorted out.

im getting it today morning so lets see

Well, the thunderbolt has plenty of juice (meaning a high current upper limit) so if you give it a type-c to type-a adapter, and connnect a hub to it you should have enough ports for everything, including the mouse and any storage media you may want to connect. But you didn't answer my other question (although it's out o mere curiosity, by now): the machine does actually recognize the keyboard in one of the intel usb ports and it does work OK, right? So you can use one of the intel ports thanks to the BIOS USB Legacy Support, even without the intel derivers for Vista. Is that correct?

only the keyboard in any 6 of the usb 3.0 intel plugs
    | wouldnt say the mouse doesnt work, but it freezes the whole O/S and is barely working like 5%

I take that to mean: Sunrise Point HM-170... if so it controlls up to 8 USB 3.0 ports at the maximum.
That could mean maybe all the lateral USB ports may not work at all, as I already suspected...
Then again, you did say at least the kbd does actually work, wasn't it?

Actually you ought to get the ASMedia USB 3.0+3.1 Drivers & Software Set v1.16.41.3 package. Later drivers don't support Vista animore.

i think the usb 3.1 type c(thunderbolt) is the asmedia one only, ill try to get a type-c to type-a adapter,my vista installed them on its own last time to much suprise,i think this means the thunderbolt will work apparently, even if it doesnt work ill have usb 3.1 gen 2 speeds :D

i already have that driver, its the one that works.

With the same money you'd have bought a great desktop and obviated all this trouble. Well... never mind.
Yes, you can find out which ports are connected to the ASMedia controller, put hubs on them to multiply them and forget the other ports. It's an ugly hack, but should work. Yet I suspect only the rear (Type C) USB 3.1 Port may be controlled by the ASMedia chip, I'm sorry to say. Get the latest complete ASMedia driver at Fernando's Forum and let's see. Moreover, if you have time for it, do run the latest CPU-Z on the laptop so that we know what CPU, Southbridge and BIOS version does it have.

    skylake,intel i7 6700hq, southbridge skylake-h pch rev 31,bios e1785IMS.112,i tried fernandos driver only :D

True. That's why I select the hardware I buy based on my decision to keep running XP, and not the other way around. Long live XP!

i have a modern laptop preloaded with windows 10 so i cant help it here, cdob said i can use usb 3.1 supported by asmedia?it supports drivers for vista

Therefore, you've hit a wall. There's no way to get intel USB working decently with vista (or previous NT-OSes) on you machine, unless you decide to mod the BIOS or use some other extreme measure. My take: forgo vista and be happy!   \m/

cant forgo something that you like and just move on and be happy(eg. windows xp)

Hmm,will have to see if i can do something, bios wouldnt support xhci hands off for no reason, doesnt work though

  11. 41 minutes ago, cdob said:

The BIOS shows two active XHCI controllers.
I understand: The BIOS dosn't allow do disable xhci mode.

XHCI hand-off is about switching USB 2 or USB 3 mode.

Do not install Intel USB 3 drivers.
If you are lucky, default Vista USB 2 drivers are active.

This doesnt work,if i put off xhci my wireless keyboard works and wireless mouse with huge delay(making the os unstable)

  12. 31 minutes ago, dencorso said:

Change Legacy USB Support to AUTO and XHCI Hand-Off to ENABLED.

tried everything in the bios my friend, the only we can do is from within the O/S,even when i installed windows 7 none worked on any setting, luckily windows 7 drivers are yet supported.

This are ASMedia drivers, not Intel drivers.

There are different USB contollers at the motherboard.
One chipset Intel USB 3.0 controller and another ASmedia USB 3.1 controller.
Guessed: there are USB 3.0 ports and USB 3.1 ports at the laptop.
There are  ASmedia USB 3.1 Vista drivers. There is a inf section [ASMEDIA.ntamd64]
Intel dosn't provide USB 3.0 Vista drivers. There is a inf section [Intel.NTAMD64.6.1], Windows 7 and up

Disable Intel xhci at BIOS, fix to USB 2.0.

like i said before disabling xhci or enabling does no difference i tried to before many times, the usb 3.1 gen2 type-C is thunderbolt i think not sure

Can you post a list of the options in the advanced tab of your machine's BIOS?

Is it the latest available bios version?

Yes,ill do that, what all you want to see there?specifically?

Delete those and re-detect new hardware.

it doesnt get detected, pendrives or my mouse or my keyboard,Funny Part is my wireless keyboard still works without any drivers or anything

Do your machine's USB 2.0 (or 3.x set to 2.0 compatibility mode) show in device manager with an yellow bang?

i only get intel 3.0 extensible host controller and intel usb 3.0 root hub with exclaimations, whether xhci is disabled or enabled i cant use any of the usbs
