  1. this is the best official screenshot of Windows 10 I have seen to date! Of course I am only talking about the Word 95 window but... (Except for NoelC's and any others that hack Aero Glass onto Windows 10, in which case it is a much better screenshot than this)
  2. It's funny that non-USB floppy drives are still supported natively though (if you run W10 in a VMWare VM, the virtualizer usually creates a virtual floppy-disk-controller floppy drive for config files and W10 can access it). How big can a USB Floppy driver really be? I'm sure it's smaller than all of those useless cell phone drivers they're including.
  3. Did you reboot after you ran the program? If you did and it's still there let me know.
  4. Introducing... rn10950's I Don't Want Windows 10 After I saw the GWX update showing up on my PCs, I immediately opened up Visual Studio and got to work on this. While any of us can just open up Control Panel (while it lasts) and uninstall the update, how many regular users can? So I created a GUI shell for the WUSA command to make it easy for anyone to uninstall this piece of adware. Download for x86/x64 Windows 7 and Windows 8.1
  5. Dotmatrix... ScanIAm...? Are you sure it's not the same guy?
  6. Hello World: Windows 10 Available on July 29Well, it looks like we have a release date
  7. Recently, I have actually been thinking that, come September, opening a side-business in my town for removing the Windows 10 "upgrade" from people's PCs. $50 a pop, it may be profitable...
  8. 1. I use Windows XP x64 and 2003 x86 as my main OSes, but I do use 7 occasionally for development and to maintain my x64 build of SeaMonkey (which I use in XP) 2. I have not really experienced any glitches on the x86 versions of XP/Win2k3 yet, but getting x64 software to run under the x64 versions can be difficult (WoW64 works fine, though) 3. I don't use IE8, in fact, I never used IE 8 on XP, I keep IE6 around for Windows Update, but use Firefox and SeaMonkey (which is like Netscape Communicator/the Mozilla Suite) for all of my normal browsing. I still use Windows XP/2003 because it was Microsoft's last OS using the classic style Explorer and maintains all of the classic ways of doing things that Vista and 7 (I won't touch 8 and 10 with a million-foot pole) don't have. It was the last OS to really be able to use the Classic theme, as Aero isn't really classic-friendly. I will probably use these until I no longer can run Firefox or SeaMonkey, which then, if there isn't a KernelEX-type thing for XP, I will switch to Linux.
  9. Your Windows 10 PC will love all the devices you own I love how they keep adding in cell phone compatibility but they still can't get their current drivers to be portable between versions. If Windows 10 is really to "love all of my devices" it needs to be able to use drivers from previous versions of Windows.
  10. I didn't know about XP showing GIFs better than 7. How is that so? I'll have to try it out and see if I can tell the difference. As for the metrotard photo viewer being the default -- well, they want everybody eventually to move over to metrotard apps. (One possible reason may be found in my next post.) * Still on 10074 here and Firefox offers normally to set itself as default. I will definitely check out what you said about that when I get the new build. They seem to be intent on making it harder and harder to run the system the way the user wants: hiding the steps for creating a local account, now removing the automated offer to change the browser. Of course Microsoft and its fanbois will tell you that they're not "forcing" you to do anything, you can still get what you want done even as they make it harder to do it. This is the special evil of their approach. They are tilting the lake so that you have to swim uphill if you want to picnic on the far shore. --JorgeA (*) This post was intended to appear before the one above it. Had them on separate computers and hit the Submit button at the same time, but the other one made it through first. The XP photo viewer can show the animated GIFs while the 7 one can't.
  11. GIF support has been bad since 7 (Vista?) anyway. The last photo viewer to properly show GIFs was XP's. But the main question is, why is the metrotard photo viewer default anyway? Another thing I noticed in recent builds is that Firefox can't set itself as default browser anymore, you have to go to the "PC Settings" crapp to set your default browser now.
  12. And compare that to my regular PC running Windows 2003:
  13. I just updated and fired up my Windows 10 VM for the first time in about a month... Let's play a game of which Winver is the active Winver? \ The titlebars are white on both the inactive and active windows and I have not found a way to change that yet.
  14. JorgeA, have you tried using the open-source VirtualBox? I use it and, except for Windows 9x, it works pretty well.
  15. I installed Opera 12.02 on Windows 98SE and I keep getting an issue with the menus. Is there a solution to this issue, and has anyone got a higher version running with KernelEX?
  16. My favorite quote from the article is this (page 3): This pretty much sums up my opinion of Windows perfectly. If we could only have the UX of XP on top of the 8.x/10 kernel, it would be perfect. (Aero Glass as an added bonus) IMO Windows XP was the best version of Windows for getting work done.
  17. I'm pretty sure that's for a URL to open in your default browser or a \\SERVER network location.
  18. Well, they really went and did it this time. Why Microsoft is calling Windows 10 'the last version of Windows'
  19. Out of curiosity, I have photoshopped the Aero Glass, Classic and Luna themes onto Windows 10, and believe it or not, it makes Windows 10 look much better. Windows 7 Aero Glass theme: Windows Classic theme: Windows XP Luna theme: What do you guys think?
  20. I agree, I don't know why people like Spartan so much. I would rather have the UI of MSIE 11, and that's saying something. I hear the rendering engine is good, but Gecko and Blink are probably better anyway.
  21. Isn't there a registry or group policy hack to re-enable the old Windows Update UI, or did they remove that too?
  22. This is just getting worse and worse by every build. First they took away Glass and Classic and now the ability to change the color of the already colorless windows. The comment section of that article is even more interesting though...
