  1. I'm getting angry. Today there was another "Optional" update, this time it was the September update rollup KB2984006. Same exact thing as with the August update, "We couldn't complete the update, undoing changes". Do I have to reinstall my system now?
  2. This update sucks. When it first came out, I couldn't even install it on my computer (but for whatever reason it installed fine on my tablet). Then I heard about problems people are having with it and that it's being pulled off, so I was glad I didn't install it on my main machine. Today it showed up again. I followed the instructions, but it's EXACTLY THE SAME. It goes to "We couldn't complete the update, undoing changes" after the first restart. What a piece of crap. I'm not touching this ever again.
  3. Disabling BITS, are you kidding? This is a component required to run Windows Update and many other things. Disabling it will render Windows Update unable to download data in the background. Not even sure if it would work at all with BITS disabled.
  4. It was Atom Z2760 (Clover Trail), GPU was PowerVR integrated graphics, Windows 8.1. HD4000 should work just fine.
  5. I had a computer like that and Aero Glass was nearly unusable on it, because there were flickering artifacts in different parts of the screen. I think it may work in your case, just depends on what kind of graphics card you have.
  6. Hi... Sorry for a slightly offtopic question, but have there been any themes for 8.1 recently that look close enough to Windows 7 and don't require Aero Glass? I mean, I don't care about the blur effect, I just want a little transparency (almost opaque) without blur. Also I need the caption glow back, but last time I checked, it was messed up and you had to install Aero Glass to make it work correctly. Has there been any improvement on that? Thanks!
  7. There are compatibility problems with some devices originally released with Windows 8. Believe it or not, there are all sorts of weird problems with 8.1 on these machines, and Microsoft don't seem to care at all.
  8. Any chance of a free DLL with limited functionality, e.g. without glass? That would be very helpful. I don't need Aero Glass on my tablet, but it would be awesome to have titlebar text glow back.
  9. No. I have a Clover Trail tablet, and Aero Glass for Win8 runs like crap on it. Once I uninstall it, the interface becomes snappy again. So either bigmuscle's recreation puts extra strain on the GPU, or GPUs on these tablets are just incapable of running Glass well.
  10. It could also be the graphics driver. There were some Windows 8.1-related problems on Intel HD graphics, and a new driver was released quite recently.
  11. Totally agree with this. You may install StartIsBack or Classic Shell all you want, but you'll not be able to use the neat network manager from Windows 7. It's so annoying when you have to enter passwords for VPNs, for example. You can't even click outside the password prompt, as this whole Metro thing slides back and resets your input. I asked authors of both StartIsBack and Classic Shell to figure something out, but they said they wouldn't be doing that For the Open With dialog, you can partially fix it with a tool called OpenWith Enhanced, but it has its own problems on Windows 8.1. It fails to register file associations sometimes.
  12. It would be nice if this application had a preview window showing what all these values actually do to the Aero Glass effect. Another suggestion: some of the values (especially those ranging from 0 to 255) could use a slider for easier adjustment.
  13. Hi Tihiy, This is not exactly a Start Menu suggestion, but, if possible, could you please look into restoring the looks and functionality of the Network tray icon? In Windows 7, there was a nice little network manager that showed the list of currently available networks, but now there is an ugly Metro sliding thing that takes too much space. Now that StartIsBack is there, this network manager is the only thing that keeps me from upgrading to Windows 8.
