  1. Add this to your reg tweak [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update] "AUOptions"=dword:00000001 "ConfigVer"=dword:00000001 "ScheduledInstallDay"=dword:00000000 "ScheduledInstallTime"=dword:00000003
  2. I know this thread is pretty old, but maybe you are still waiting... I seriously doubt, but anyway... [RegionalSettings] LanguageGroup=1 SystemLocale=00000c0c UserLocale=00000c0c InputLocale=0c0c:00001009 The only thing I see, is that you have one more line I don't have. Mine is working with RIS. So remove your line and try
  3. Found that while googling. It might help you Using Windows 2000 Remote Installation Service to deploy Windows 98 Hope this help!
  4. Maybe you should post in the "application installation" thread. You might get more answer there, or it might be already answered there
  5. Go in your GPO configuration for your server, then go in the user part in the GPO, then find the RIS in the "windows settings". Enable the "custom" option and disable the "automatic" option. Now you can use the variable %machinename%.
  6. When you got the right term for what you are looking for, it's always easier!
  7. Got my problem... This is what happen when you are only working with your stuff and doon't see what other are doing. My DHCP wasnt configured with the option to give the DNS ip address. Added those two option in my DHCP are it's working flawlessly. Thanks again!
  8. Did a little search, is this a software you have to pay for?
  9. In order to get more click on your topic, you should be more specific on your topic name... "small issue" doesn't give a lot of info... For your question, it might not be a lot different from Windows XP (Windows Setup Timeline) Check out that guide located on unattended.msfn.org
  10. Those file are related to the SuperHidden attribute in the same directory in the registry. Set it to 0 You should try to use "regmon" to identify change to the registry. This is a very usefull tool.
  11. Yeah, but since this is in a testing environment, I'll not work on this issue because my real DNS is working and fully functional. Thanks again!
  12. First of all, I'd like to thank everyone for helping me out. I switched in my sif sif the variable %machinedomain% for my short domain name and it worked. So my problem has maybe somehting to do with my DNS
  13. Thanks Here is the error I got from setuperr.log Netsetup:Join domain XXXXXXXX in full unattended mode failed. Setup will proceed to add the workstation to the default domain
  14. Still doesn't work. Is there any log file somewhere I can check to see what's going inside the process of the RIS on my workstation? I'm starting to think about a complete full reinstall of my test environment. This is driving me nut. Ill keep a backup of my Windows distribution and retry on a clean reinstall. I'll keep you updated on the situation. Thanks!
  15. Thanks for the answer. I'll try it right now. For the pre-staged thing, I don't know how this work. I've read about this, but I don't know where to get the GUID and I don't have MAC address of all the computer I got.
  16. Could you tell more about the option you selected in the setup process? Screenshot? Location of the mail folder (program file/application data)? Thanks!
  17. You got to use an utility called "devcon" syntax should be something like that: devcon disable =net pci\ven_10b7^&DEV_6056^&SUBSYS_635610B7^&REV_20 Of course you have to get the specify string for your NIC. You can find it in the properties in the device manager. Hope this help!
  18. Yes, for testing purpose, I'm using the domain "Administrator" account. Can't be more powerful than that... Here is my SIF file: ;SetupMgrTag [Data] AutoPartition=0 MsDosInitiated="1" UnattendedInstall="Yes" floppyless="1" OriSrc="\\%SERVERNAME%\RemInst\%INSTALLPATH%" OriTyp="4" LocalSourceOnCD=1 AutomaticUpdates=yes [SetupData] OsLoadOptions="/noguiboot /fastdetect" SetupSourceDevice="\Device\LanmanRedirector\%SERVERNAME%\RemInst\%INSTALLPATH%" [Unattended] UnattendMode=FullUnattended OemSkipEula=Yes OemPreinstall=Yes OemPNPDriversPath=* DriverSigningPolicy=Ignore TargetPath=\WINDOWS FileSystem=LeaveAlone NtUpgrade=No OverwriteOemFilesOnUpgrade=No UnattendSwitch=Yes Hibernation=No DUDisable=Yes Repartition=Yes [GuiUnattended] AdminPassword=SomeEncryptedPassword EncryptedAdminPassword=Yes OEMSkipRegional=1 TimeZone=%TIMEZONE% OemSkipWelcome=1 ProfilesDir="%SYSTEMDRIVE%\Usagers" [UserData] ProductID=AAAAA-11111-AAAAA-11111-AAAAA FullName="ADMIN" OrgName=%MACHINEDOMAIN% ComputerName=%MACHINENAME% [TapiLocation] CountryCode=107 Dialing=Tone AreaCode=418 [RegionalSettings] LanguageGroup=1 SystemLocale=00000c0c UserLocale=00000c0c InputLocale=0c0c:00001009 [Identification] JoinDomain = %MACHINEDOMAIN% CreateComputerAccountInDomain = No DoOldStyleDomainJoin = Yes [Networking] InstallDefaultComponents=Yes ProcessPageSections=Yes [RemoteInstall] Repartition=Yes [OSChooser] Description="Windows Professionel SP2 - Machine Type" Help="Will install Windows SP2 on Machine Type" LaunchFile="%INSTALLPATH%\%MACHINETYPE%\templates\startrom.com" ImageType=Flat [Shell] DefaultThemesOff=Yes DefaultStartPanelOff=Yes [Components] msnexplr=Off zonegames=Off [Display] BitsPerPel = 32 XResolution = 800 YResolution = 600 [GuiRunOnce] "\\%SERVERNAME%\SHARE$\Script\wksn.cmd" "\\%SERVERNAME%\SHARE$\Script\cleanup.cmd" For my domain, it's a brand new. Got a DNS andDHCP, that's all. I know my DHCP is working and machine gets added to the Domain with the CIW. Is there any log file I can search to get information about my possible problem. Event viewer has nothing logged about that. Thanks!
  19. I know this thread is there for a couple month but if you don't have the custom option enabled, check your GPO settings. The RIS option you can have in your CIW are enabled there.
  20. Anyone here using RIS on a 2003 SP1 server? It seems like this isn't working anymore with new undocumented security feature introduced with SP1. I've searched a lot on google and I can't get it working.
  21. It seems like my problem isn't related to VMWare but with Windows 2003 SP1. After searching for solution on google, i saw that a lot of people are having problem since introducing SP1 into their domain. It looks that they added security that disabled the functionality found in the sif file (DoOldStyleDomainJoin). I might have to give a try to this instead, or found registry key/gpo that might reallow me to do this. DomainAdmin = accountname DomainAdminPassword = a domain password with permissions to add machines to domain JoinDomain = our domain name I'll keep you informed. Thanks
  22. When you create a new VM, choose the custom option. This way you can choose between a SCSI or IDE hard drive. I highly suggest to use for primary HD a IDE since they are easier to configurer. Then if you need more HD, choose SCSI. With the tools installed, SCSI HD are recognized automatically.
  23. Hello thanks for reply. For testing purpose, I'm using the Administrator account from my test domain with the CIW. So, yes machine account gets created in the AD in the correct OU.
  24. Hello all. I not a newbie into RIS environment since I've already did achieved it in another job I had in the past. Now in my new job, I've got to do the same thing, the main difference for my test setup is I'm working in VMWare. I do know vmware and how it works but I'm getting problem with the RIS thing. Here is my setup in VMWare: Both virtual machine are NATed, and my DHCP server for my NATed adapter is OFF. Is my server, everything works, my workstation gets into the RIS and the CIW. Workstation gets an address from the DHCP server located in my virtual RIS Server so communication between the 2 virtual machine is ok. Here is what I got from my .sif file: [Identification] JoinDomain=%MACHINEDOMAIN% DoOldStyleDomainJoin=Yes In the CIW, machine get added to the right OU in my AD. But when machine boot up in Windows, machine isnt in the domain. Is this because I'm in VMWare or I got a problem elsewhere? Thanks for the help!
  25. This is how I achieve it too. The only difference I see is in the reg file I specify the code for the keyboard layout I want to delete.
